Schrödinger's Strait - Trump Thread #162A

Spandauer · 19/04/2026 14:58

The Strait of Schrödinger remains open and closed, safe and dangerous, insurable and uninsurable, blockaded and free.

"You put your tanker in, you put your tanker out
In, out, in, out, you sail it all about
You do the Straits of Hormuz and you turn around
That’s what it’s all about!"

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Got overwhelmed by the 🍊💩's idiot fuckery last time and missed out thread #161 so have designated this one as fake #162...A

He Has No Deal, He Has No Dice - Trump Thread #162 | Mumsnet

WTF

Russia has offered to mediate between the US and Iran in the war negotiations, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced.

By diverting Iran’s missiles to Ukraine, perhaps?

logicisall · 20/04/2026 20:38

If Trump accepts that offer he is a bigger arse than even I thought.

@Spandauer , we need a SITUATION ROOM!

Great. Trump "mediating" in the Russia- Ukraine war and Putin on the Iran-Israel-US.....
I have more trust in Putin succeeding, as a matter of fact.
And Trump.... well is Trump going to say no to his beloved Putin? Never.
It may work indeed.

Oh, he will say YES!!!!! He will stumble to the phone and scream " I thought you were never going to ask"
He will sign the Sttait to the Iranians, with toll and all, if Putin suggests to him that is a good idea.

It's my eldest daughter's birthday today and we were talking about when people ask your age. I said that you will always be my gorgeous child. She's early 3Os.

We recalled that when she asked her late grandad his age he always replied that he was 21 and a bit - "and the bit is my own business."

Pause for thought post on good family moments.

Definitely. That interview performance could easily fool you into thinking that she could now somehow be a 'rational' Republican.
("It's all relative" as my old DF would say)

Just had to read her Wikipedia entry to re-familiarise myself and give my head a bloody big wobble.

Just keep in your mind the vision of a Tucker Carlson - MTG ticket in 2028, possibility of Candace Owens for Secretary of State. It could well be coming to an election near you in 2028.

That should shake any rose-tinted thoughts right out of your head.

If only we could disable Trump's microchip

logicisall · 20/04/2026 22:57

Remember Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs? Rather ignominious ending for this lot, but didn't he impose a new set?

WASHINGTON — The U.S. government on Monday launched a tool for refunding more than $166 billion in revenue from tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and subsequently struck down by the Supreme Court.
The conservative-majority high court in February ruled against a swath of Trump's tariffs, marking a stinging rebuke of his key economic policy and opening the door to refunds.
On Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it has activated the first phase of its processing tool, meaning that importers and customs brokers can start submitting documentation to recover their payments.

On a more positive note, is anyone else extremely impressed by Jon Ossoff? Definitely worth keeping any eye on. He's relatively inexperienced, but then, so was Obama.

Spaghettea · 20/04/2026 23:03

Overheard in the petrol station today. Customer saying to cashier she wondered if petrol would come down a bit soon. Cashier, maybe but it won't go back to what it was.
Customer; bloody Trump 🙄😁

Trump demands Iran open the Straits so that US can shut it

Further to the missile carton posted up threads - the global effect of reduced spending. I would also point out that many American First advocates are in favour of reduced spending on foreign aid programmes, not realising that the US benefits from controlling/eradicating infectious diseases elsewhere.

They also might be a little disappointed that the money saved on aid is being spent on war, and that Trump's tariffs and war are responsible for CoL increases.

The $2bn (£1.5bn) a week that Donald Trump was spending on his reckless war in Iran could have funded saving more than 87 million lives, the head of the UN’s humanitarian agency, Tom Fletcher, said on Monday.
He also warned the normalisation of violent language, such as threatening to bomb Iran back to the stone ages, was very dangerous since it encourages every “wannabe autocrat” to use similar threats and tactics, including the destruction of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Trump has apparently said Mandelson was a "really bad pick" for the US ambassador role.

The irony.🙄

More to the point, imagine if he had spent that on healthcare in his own country. That would have actually won him votes, improved the country economically (healthy people can work) and made the world feel he had finally done a good thing and improved the US.

@JoshLymanSwagger thanks for the article. I read it and was appalled. Her nose and those of her family were firmly in the trough. I cannot understand why someone with her background would seek to lessen workers' rights.

logicisall · 21/04/2026 09:25

This just flashed across my screen. From X, and wondering if this was before or after Russia offered its services.

Iran's Ghalibaf Indirectly Confirms Iran WILL NOT Go to Pakistan for Negotiation with Iran "Trump, by imposing a siege and violating the ceasefire, seeks to turn this negotiating table— in his own imagination— into a table of surrender or to justify renewed warmongering. We do not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats, and in the past two weeks, we have prepared to reveal new cards on the battlefield."

This is appalling/interesting in equal amounts - the Republican shadow docket:

(Apologies if this has already been mentioned, I missed it.)

The first thing I wondered when I saw this article about the Labor Secretary et al was how on earth these people got in these prestigious positions in the first place, and then realised scum at the top attracts scum from the bottom.

A lighthearted one for you all.

Quick explainer from my day job: when you want to name a racehorse , there’s a database you can use to check that the name you want is available (no duplicates allowed amongst several other rules on length, potential to offend, etc) and you can reserve names even if you don’t yet have a horse you want to give it to.

I’ve just seen this on Twitter from a racehorse syndicate manager in response to the news about White House insider training (you’ll have to expand the picture to see in full).

CaveMum · 21/04/2026 09:45

I think I mentioned it last year, but I was chatting with a racing secretary who’s boss had just started training an unnamed horse whose father was “Constitution” and mother “Temper’s Rising”.

I tried hard to convince him to advise the owners to give him a topical name - “Januarysixth” would have had a nice ring to it, but sadly they went with “No Temperence” - boo!
