No More Dreamies For My Cat

A beautiful jet black female cat adopted me 2 years ago from a cat charity. The previous owner only fed her dried food and knowing that wasn't healthy I put her on wet food that she loved as not having it before ( unless the charity fed her this). As a treat I started giving her Dreamies that became a sort of side dish to her wet food.
A few months later I noticed she was licking and chewing herself (no fleas or parisites) acting nervous and started getting bald patches all around her lower abdomen and legs. I was close to putting her in a carrier and taking her to the vet when I happened upon a post on a cat forum stating that cats that over groom are put on anti-anxiety medicine! In some cases 60 quid a month! After a bit more research I stopped the Dreamies and gave her healthy dry treats and after 6 to 7 weeks she's got 70% of her fur back. Hope this helps.

😂

It's certainly different. I think her cat has taken over the keyboard in disgust.

Well, this went odd and downhill very quickly.

Hannaseed · 18/04/2026 21:26

My cat says 'Furq' is cat speak for 'fuck'

Error404FucksNotFound · 18/04/2026 21:27

For once im not going to miss the oddness.

I'm utterly lost and also now wondering if my (very healthy) cat views me as some kind of dealer....she is literally looking at me right now....

TheyAreLovelyLovelyPeople · 18/04/2026 21:33

Escalated super fast from hmmm dreamies might be implicated in my kitty's skin issues to furq get a compass. Blimey.

I'm utterly lost too although really want to watch Trainspotting again.

My cats get the Lidl version of Dreamies, they're like cat ket rather than cat crack.

I cannot stop laughing at this comment. I keep re-reading it just to make myself laugh😂

It is definitely the sort of utterance a cat might make. On the disposal of a furball, for instance.

Onomatopoeic 🤮 🤣

Agapornis · 18/04/2026 21:56

Furq indeed.

In contrast to your cat, my lovely but previously anxious overgrooming black cat is much happier now he has his own microchip feeder with constantly available dry food, and gets 6 Dreamies at bedtime. He rejected the Aldi rip-off and prefers the chicken or cheese flavours. He doesn't like any of the many types of wet food he's been offered.

Anecdotes aren't 'research'.

ShetlandishMum · 18/04/2026 21:59

Our cats enjoy a dreamie or two now and then. For years. No issues.

We look after two cats at moment. They are no thank to Dreamies.

Louie’s not fussed on Dreamies (but will eventually eat them if nothing better is forthcoming, he’s not a psychopath) and much prefers Felix Crispies. His all time fave is the Bonkers chicken lollipops though. (This thread is bonkers tbh.)

No. We've got lots of cats and most of them don't like Dreamies so I never buy them. Webbox sticks in our house, especially the cheese ones.
