Give me brief outline what it is about please.
Is it abuse of Aboriginal people?

Yes, I believe it's about the forced displacement of Aboriginal people from the Western Desert and other areas of the outback in order to create huge sheep farms. The disruption of their ancestral lifestyles, cultures and communities has created long shadows that still affect aboriginal people today in terms of their health, education and welfare.

Another vote for This land is our land.

DandyPanda · 16/04/2026 19:10

Lots of the ones mentioned, but I’d have to say my all time favourite is Ohio-Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Also Zombie, which is one of my go to karaoke songs

rightoguvnor · 16/04/2026 19:14

Wonderful Remark is the true title of Some Other Rainbow. It became something of an anthem in the late 80s when John McCarthy was a hostage in Beirut. Jill Morrell used it as the title of her account of the five years.
it was a very significant story during my late teens, I sobbed when I watched him get off the plane at Brize Norton on TV. Of course, Terry Waite was a much more prominent name at the time (and indeed they spent some periods captive together) but it was John McCarthy who really struck a chord with me.

The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
But leaves the greater villain loose
Who steals the common from off the goose

The law demands that we atone
When we take things we do not own
But leaves the lords and ladies fine
Who take things that are yours and mine

The poor and wretched don't escape
If they conspire the law to break
This must be so but they endure
Those who conspire to make the law

The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
And geese will still a common lack
Till they go and steal it back

Sinead O'Connor singing the times are a changing, Gil Scott Heron, The Revolution will not be televised and Winter in America. Could all be released today and be topical.

It shows how little has changed in America when a lot of Gils material is still pertinent now.
The Gun
The Klan
Whitey on the moon
Just a few of my personal faves.
