I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die Rag - Country Joe and The Fish

This one for me too. The footage of this song at Woodstock is amazing.

ImWearingPantaloons · 16/04/2026 11:32

I’ve always considered Tears For Fears’ ‘Shout’ to be a good protest song.

Boris Vian - Le Deserteur. My French teacher at school did this with us many years ago and I still love it.

I hadn’t come across this one before - it’s wonderful.

BloodandGlitter · 16/04/2026 12:08

Labour - Paris Paloma
Who'll stand with us? - Drop Kick Murphys

Laiste · 16/04/2026 12:12

SconehengeRevenge · 15/04/2026 23:18

Sunday Bloody Sunday

yep

Laiste · 16/04/2026 12:16

and
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones

anti war
(and one of the best slow guitar intro's ever!)

dapsnotplimsolls · 16/04/2026 12:23

Army Dreamers - Kate Bush.

Gillthepill · 16/04/2026 13:16

Forgot all about Dylan! Some great suggestions, thanks.

Will have a listen to some of these.

Also thought Common People by Pulp (as a commentary on privilege).

Agree. Also

Big yellow taxi. Joni Mitchell

Zombie. The Cranberries

ETA - Common People sung by William Shatner is worth listening to!

Cocolapew · 16/04/2026 13:26

Long Walk To DC, The Staple Singers

AngryHerring · 16/04/2026 13:30

Country Joe And the Fish - Feel LIke I'm Fixin' To Die Rag

Beds Are Burning Midnight Oil

so so so many Midnight Oil. Practically their entire back catalogue.

But also their last album is literally called Resist. And is chock full of absolute bangers of protest songs. (er... could be a bit of a fan)

but also Blue Sky Mining.

What about 51st State by New Model Army?

massistar · 16/04/2026 14:11

Bella Ciao
Which Side Are You On - love Natalie Merchant’s beautiful understated version and the Dropkick Murphy’s angrier version.

dubiousswan · 16/04/2026 14:27

Mariem Hassan, - Haiyu - a very happy sounding song but all about revolution

Omou Sangaré - Mogoya a moving song about humanity

darksigns · 16/04/2026 14:47

Capital G, Nine Inch Nails. And the rest of the Year Zero album.

DareDevil223 · 16/04/2026 14:49

Heartland - The The

As brilliant and unfortunately relevant today as it was in 1986 when it came out.

"Here comes another winter of long shadows and high hopes
Here comes another winter, waitin' for utopia
Waitin' for hell to freeze over"

MumAsYouAre · 16/04/2026 16:00

A las barricadas and Bella Ciao (remembered from my short-lived anarchist days). Both bring a tear to my eye.

ratherfarther · 16/04/2026 16:31

Ohio By CSNY. Brilliant song, written very quickly after the shooting dead of 4 students at Kent state university by the US army. Full of rage and sadness but also a beautiful song

MorangoDoNordeste · 16/04/2026 16:36

Beds Are Burning, by Midnight Oil. I loved it as a teen, without any understanding of what lay behind the words, and I love it even more now.

Give me brief outline what it is about please.
Is it abuse of Aboriginal people?
