Really interesting reading this thread. Some of them I didn't even know they were protest songs - like Zombies (cranberries), I was only 7 when the song came out and just remember the catchy chorus, had no idea of the meaning of the rest of words.
Another one like that is 99 Luftballons (99 Red Balloons) by Nena.
