Husband insists moon landings were faked and 9/11 was a false flag secret operation the Americans did to themselves

I am désolé
My husband, he tell me he really believe there has never been a moon landing and that the 9/11 attacks were faked too.
I was in New York on 9/11
He knows this
He keeps saying things that have been disproven as conspiracy theory myths.
I wonder if I should be calling for a mental crisis unit.

I’m sceptical about the moon landings. Not because of TikTok but because one day I saw the photos in a newspaper and it struck me how odd the vehicle they landed in was.
It’s not exactly streamlined. Everything else humans have designed to fly are aerodynamic apart from that. How on earth did that thing lift off the moon without losing anything?

Oh for god's sake... please assure me this is tongue-in-cheek?

MyRubyPanda · 16/04/2026 00:05

The human brain believes all manner of ridiculous things. I have two physical science degrees and teach physics at university level. And yet I honestly believe that every physicist despises me. The ones who don't just haven't met me yet. I'm convinced of this and cannot disprove it to my mind's satisfaction. It doesn't help I don't have a single friend who is a physicist. So therefore my belief must be true, right?

Whilst I agree that those questions are patently ridiculous, I find it interesting that your "gotcha" is "Because....NASA!" as if that is an unquestionable organisation.

NASA....started by the US government in 1958 when they were in the grip of the Anti American panic. At a point in history where the US would do practically anything to destroy the Red Menace.

So, I am afraid that I have to say it isnt the Gotcha you think it is either!

I did think about it when I wrote it, to be honest. I hoped people would take it as a shorthand for perhaps doing a little more research into scientific explanations behind the answers to the questions, than watching YouTube conspiracy videos.

But yes, I probably should’ve made my point a little better. Honestly, though… anybody that believes this specific conspiracy theory is not going to learn anything on this thread, or perhaps anywhere at all. So…

But the official story about drinking bleach is plausible. It's dangerous. It says so right there on the bottle: DO NOT SWALLOW.

Yes, but I mean if they changed the official story then there's a cohort of people who would go along with it no problem and say 'must be safe' then.

GarlicFind · 16/04/2026 00:08

@AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf: experienced military pilots said they couldn't have flown into the buildings with such accuracy

I'm not saying no experienced military pilots have ever talked shit for fame, money or giggles. But the WTC was a massive target, it was a very clear day.

I worked in Canary Wharf, where actual military jets weaved around the buildings occasionally - for no obvious reason, I assume it was an exercise. But the WTC was hit by airliners, you say! I can't see how a large missile would be less able to hit a large target than a small one, but let's listen to the real commercial pilots who say an average 12-year-old could be taught to do it in a simulator.

Various aviation studies concluded that the 9/11 attacks were meticulously planned, and the training the hijackers received was sufficient to achieve their goals.

A common hallmark of conspiracy theories is that people make claims based on what THEY wouldn't or couldn't do. If you fucked up on a mass-market aviation simulator, that doesn't mean a trained pilot who'd rehearsed the flight on professional simulators couldn't do it. You might not sit in the back without your seatbelt on while your driver was half-cut, another woman would. Few of us really understand how space flights work; it doesn't mean they don't happen. I worked with someone who didn't speak any other languages, so she didn't believe that I could (she also believed 'everyone speaks English', so let's leave that to her).

You sound like an absolute delight to be married to (not!). Your husband has critical thinking which gives him more intelligence than we can say about you. Why not fully research the subjects and come up with real facts rather than throwing your husband under the bus on mumsnet for your own entertainment! pathetic!

This is the kinda shit that blows my mind on mumsnet (and tbf generally). The suggestion that there is no critical thinking in the OP vs the utter lack of any intelligence or facts in the response.

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 15/04/2026 23:35

No, I don't understand that either. I think there's potential for insistent illogicality on both sides of the debate.

People who dismiss the theory that 9/11 was an inside job as obviously ridiculous, but then don't have any explanation about legitimate questions such as how a passport survived unscathed and identifiably in a fire that did immense damage to an aeroplane; why was the complete collapse of Building 7 reported by the official news channels when it could still be seen behind them standing before suddenly collapsing 20 minutes later; how was the Patriot Act all ready to go in just six weeks - and not even just any six weeks, but six weeks after all of that had just happened? Also the reports that the Bushes and Bin Laden's close family members had met socially shortly before the event; and the claimed testimonies from very experienced military pilots that they couldn't have flown into the buildings with such accuracy etc.

As PP said, whether or not you accept the veracity and evidence or not of these questions/conclusions of something afoot is one thing; but just instantly huffing and harumphing that it's so clearly all ridiculous, and that anybody asking these questions must be mentally ill, doesn't necessarily put you in a great intellectual light either.

On the other side, the people who doggedly insist that Finland doesn't exist; birds are actually robots that recharge by sitting on telegraph lines; the royal family are actually, physically reptiles and not human at all - because they read it online and so it must be true... These can all be very easily gainsaid with very simple logic, and none of the claimed 'evidence' can be objectively said to merit any serious consideration.

Oddly enough, even the most staunch automatic deniers of all conspiracies in the west never seem to have much difficulty in assuming the exact opposite when it comes to allegations of what the governments of Russia, Iran, North Korea and China have been up to. Unless you genuinely believe that all/certain governments would never, ever lie to their people about anything, it does seem to me to represent a bright, open mind if you critically examine the evidence and the merits of the suggestion. Insisting that it MUST be true, or similarly that it CANNOT be true, without any consideration at all of serious, at least possible objections or questions just seems rather intellectually dishonest to me.

At the very least they knew 9/11 was going to happen and they allowed it.

But then often the ones who think anyone is a nutter for thinking that or that it was an inside job are the people who think 9/11 and all the ISIS attacks etc happened simply because 'they hate us (the west) and our way of life'.

History, context, facts etc don't matter, it's just 'they hate us and our way of life'.

Well at least we know its not hot on the moon then because it would be melted!!! Ohhhhh actually, maybe they all kept going up because they were all roasted cheese addicts? I need to watch back, I want to see if they snuck a loaf into the rocket (wee Warburton toastie loaf). Hopefully they had black pepper, oh or a jar of Branston 😋. Wonder when the next trip is, im asking for a lift 😆 🤣. Orkney cheese is good roasted...hmmm, bet its cheddar though! Xx

I watched a lot of documentaries, and they made sense.

The owner of the TT who got insurance just before the towers went down. He didn't go to work that day for the first time in forever.
Experts in steel and buildings/construction all saying the buildings didn't fall ina way that made sense.
The cheering group of not-Muslims who looked they knew it was going to happen. The surviving passport that looked planted.

Did you watch your documentaries on YouTube by any chance?

Not really, as I said if people always believe the official story of everything then it's worrying what else they could be convinced of. All they have to do is change the official story.

I watched Pres Trump enthusing over the viability of drinking bleach to kill Covid infections 🙄 I then read hundreds of Amazon reviews by users buying the stuff for that purpose.

Also see bleach to kill 'worms', often thought to have been introduced into the drinking water by nefarious authorities. They post pictures, as proof, of the long, bloody strings they (and their children) vomit up after drinking the bleach. The strings are strips of gut lining that the bleach has ripped off.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 16/04/2026 00:19

I've always been a keen photographer, in darkroom photography circles there have long been questions about the photographs taken on the moon by the astronauts

This is because a significant number of the supposed "moon surface" shots released to the media were, in fact, mock ups shot in a professional studio. NASA not only failed to disclose this at the time, but they also interspersed the "staged" shots with genuine photos taken on the surface of the moon, leading to further allegations of conspiracy when obvious discrepancies in the staged shots were first discovered.

There are shots of the moon rover vehicle where you can see right-angle changes of direction in the tracks left behind in the lunar dust. This is something the vehicle is not capable of, and therefore, the conclusion must be that the shot is "fake". Of course it is, because this is one of the staged shots, and the reason for the anomaly is the simple fact that staff responsible for organising it simply manhandled the lunar rover into position, leaving behind a distinct "L" shaped track in the fake lunar surface.

It's also why there are multiple shots that appear to have been taken from a perspective completely out of keeping with the Astronauts chest-mounted cameras. They weren't taken by Astronauts, or on the lunar surface, but again, NASA failed to make this absolutely clear at the time.

I do think princess Diana was murdered by the royal family though

So you believe that with all the apparatus of State available to the UK, including intelligence services, armed forces, plenty of private security firms, including mercenaries who will do just about anything if the price is right, the Royal Family sat down and thought "You know what, we'd be better off without Diana, so let's pay her driver to get himself drunk and full of medication, charge off into the Paris night, and just hope that when he inevitably crashes its enough to do her in"?

You realise that

  1. It's an absolutely ludicrous way to attempt to assassinate someone
  2. She wasn't actually dead in the immediate aftermath of the accident in any case.

What possible motive would they have for bumping her off to begin with? I take it they just weren't particularly concerned about the fact it would deprive the future King and his younger brother of their mother at a formative point in their lives.

At least the people who allege Phil got into his Black Cab, went over on Eurostar, and ran her Mercedes off the road are showing a bit of imagination.

@Firefly1987
Go back to your favourite tattle where you say all the intelligent people hang out and tell them how a 'baby killer' fan is now saying she thinks the US let 9/11 happen. If you haven't already. I'm sure you ran there 😂

I also see you all over the reddit sub, people just sharing the latest news and maybe a brief discussion about them but you try to turn it into an argument with everyone, and now you're bringing it into unrelated threads on here.

It's really, really pathetic to want to argue with people to entertain yourself. Grow up.

I don't even know those posters or what they believe about anything apart from that case, but it would be my absolute pleasure if you didn't waste your time arguing with me 😂Fuck if all I had to say was I believed in some conspiracy theories to make you stop then I would have shouted it from the roof tops 😂

I'm not into any other conspiracies, but the moon landing could have been faked.

"Could have been faked"

Well yes, provided the US Government was willing to spend an order of magnitude more than the cost of the actual Apollo programme itself, because faking it convincingly would not only have cost more, it would have required an inordinate degree of collective effort above and beyond that of the moon landing itself.

You do realise that NASA were not the only agency tracking the Apollo vehicles?

This is at a point in time where the Cold War is still very much in effect. Do you honestly believe that if the Soviets and Chinese were anything other than 100% satisfied that the US moon landings were anything less than entirely legitimate, they'd have just kept quiet and let the US score a massive propaganda and soft-power coup?
