Do you have a "treat" everyday and if so what is it?

Angelasweetcheeks · 14/04/2026 12:15

Currently trying to ignore the lure of a digestive biscuit to dip in my tea. Generally don't eat biscuits but we have them leftover from a cheesecake recipe. I think I do generally have some kind of "treat" everyday though. The things I perceive as a treat might be a small chocolate, a biscuit, some crisps, an alcoholic drink etc. I think I need to reframe my thinking so that something healthier becomes my treat.

What do you consider your "treats"?

I don't. It took me two years to lose all the weight and not be obese any more.
I was fat for 30 years and hated every minute of it.
I don't see food as "treats" any more I see it as only fuel.
I've weaned myself off sugar and make all my own food from scratch.
If I want a treat I'll buy a scarf or some clothing or go for a walk in the woods or do some gardening which I love, maybe meet up with a friend for coffee.
It seems a bit too much but I completely wasted my life and opportunities being fat and I'm never going back there again.
I know myself well, one treat will lead to two then three like it always used to.

This is impressive. Can I ask how did you become so disciplined? I wish I could be more disciplined as in not eat chocolate every evening, don’t have the biscuits in the staff room etc. I’m obese and would love nothing more than be able to change this mindset of giving in to the sugar craving

just stop eating chocolate

TaraRhu · 15/04/2026 23:29

I have a biscuit every day. Just one. On Saturday or Sunday I have a croissant sometimes.

I make all my food from scratch too for health reasons so a treat for me is:

A couple of Medjool dates

a homemade muffin/cake/biscuit depending on what I’ve baked that week

Also like walking in the nice weather(!) - makes me feel good!

in the ‘old days’ pre my digestive woes I’d say a cup
of coffee (nespresso or bought if out) and a cake (sometimes homemade but not as healthy as I make them now).

Hi have you any recipes for snacks that you could share? Trying to make healthier ones at home. Thanks

Mounjaro! It killed my desire to eat and now Im slim Im desperate to stay slim. I cannot go back to the fat mess I had become.
I weigh myself every morning and if Ive put on a few pounds Ill get it off before it becomes half a stone or one stone.
I threw away all my plus size clothes so if I gain weight I have nothing to wear.
I drink a lot of water...it stops cravings.
I honestly fong think I could have done this without mounjaro.

Edited

I’m on wegovy though the nhs, I’m on 2.4mg which is the highest dose they give have been for 6 months and weight loss has come to a halt :( haven’t lost since before Christmas now. I would do mounjaro if I could afford it.
i wish I could alter my mindset but in the moment the sweet craving is more pressing than the long goal so I give in easily. It’s disheartening when I was so
grateful to be put on the medication in the first place

Jam from lidl, the nice kind with big lumps of strawberry in it. Sometimes I have it on toast and sometimes I have a spoonful on top of some vanilla ice cream.

mathanxiety · 16/04/2026 00:50

I like a little treat every day, sometimes chocolate, sometimes frozen cherries or pineapple, sometimes a home made cookie or slice of cake. I had one daily even when shedding the extra lbs I put on during covid.

Two fancy chocolates every evening. DH and I stock up on nice boxes of chocolates at every opportunity then ration them!

On a previous treat thread people were suggesting little things they buy themselves, off that I got some apricot scented essie nail oil. Stopping work for a couple of minutes to massage that into my nails breaks the day nicely.

I too would like some healthy treats. Like herbal tea in the garden listening to the birds. But I am time poor, so I choose chocolate instead!

@FallenNight oh I loved that Essie nail oil. I used to put it on at night so it would have to work its magic without me washing my hands throughout the day. Thanks for the memory. I’ll seek it out again.

I buy a nice cup of coffee from a coffee shop most days, then go for a walk and drink it. It’s probably costing me a fortune but I’m not going to add it all up because that would ruin it for me, and I’ve decided it’s worth it because I really enjoy it and I had few other expensive habits!

I do this too and also try not to feel guilty about the cost. I should be saving money but I started buying a latte most days during a very stressful time in my life and it was a comfort. I am also always very busy - I'm a working single parent to a toddler - but the shop bought coffee and time to sit in the cafe is my special thing.

A cup of tea, sitting in the garden listening and watching the wild birds ❤️ or dark chocolate orange coated almonds..... Yummy!! Problem is I can't stop eating them,!

They sound good, where do you get them from?

I have a small bar of dark chocolate most days which I see as a 'treat'.
If I ever have a coffee out (which is probably about 2-3 times a month) I see that as a treat too.

Which small bars of chocolate do you have & where do you get them from?

Hulahooops · 14/04/2026 13:44

I have loads but i do give alone.

After most of the threads on here, the living alone seems like the treat!

Angelasweetcheeks · 14/04/2026 23:28

An interesting variety then! I do also have 2 coffees with milk and cream every morning which I definitely consider a treat but I looked forward to them every day so I don't care.

For me, I think with the other treats there is always an element of guilt which somehow takes the pleasure off it. I am very well informed about nutrition - cook everything from scratch and avoid UPF. Sometimes that knowledge is no fun. I find it hard to enjoy food anymore so when I know I'm eating something which isn't great nutritionally, I do try and savour it.

Tell me more about your coffee & how you make it! It sounds good.

i have a sage barista coffee machine, but i had a stroke last year & started buying Costa Coffee latte sachets (just add hot water) & they make an acceptable drink, without the faff & mess, BUT I don't like the 796 ingredients, I don't think most of them can be good for ne, but I need tempting into faff & mess of real coffee!!

WonderingWanda · 16/04/2026 07:24

I have a friend who always used to go on about me buying coffee out & if only I saved tgst money I could have a holiday! (More like a weekend away!) but as I explained to him 'Yes I could (but at that time I could do that easily as well!!) but instead of enjoying ball that at once. I enjoyed the coffee & walk/sit in smaller chunks daily! Why is pleasure spread out not as good as pleasure in one go???

he didn't really have an answer. It kind of shut him up. But that may have been my murderous look! 🤣

I buy the Moser Roth ones from Aldi. You get 5 small bars in a back, one for each weekday lunch time and there’s lots of different flavours so you don’t get bored. This week I have orange flavour.

I bet you’re happier though! Honestly life is too short to consider a bit of fruit as a treat. And coffee? That’s a necessity for me! I eat bad stuff, yes. Am I overweight? Yes. Do I care? Not really. I enjoy food.

Not reguarding seasonal fruit as a treat is sad to me. A really ripe melon, british strawberries or cherries how can you not consider that a treat ?

flutterby1 · 16/04/2026 08:01

2 bars of chocs and 2 packets crisps most days.

mondaytosunday · 16/04/2026 09:36

I have a fun size chocolate bar - like the size you give out at Halloween. It’s just enough to give me a sweet treat and I can eat the whole thing - I can’t just eat a couple squares of a bigger bar. It’s about 100 calories and easy to work in to my calorie allowance. Alternatively I’ll have a coffee with cream - about 60 calories.

shellyleppard · 16/04/2026 10:07

@SummerFrog2026 they are available in Tesco. Can get bigger packs online. The brand is called deliciously ella x
