Do you have a "treat" everyday and if so what is it?

Currently trying to ignore the lure of a digestive biscuit to dip in my tea. Generally don't eat biscuits but we have them leftover from a cheesecake recipe. I think I do generally have some kind of "treat" everyday though. The things I perceive as a treat might be a small chocolate, a biscuit, some crisps, an alcoholic drink etc. I think I need to reframe my thinking so that something healthier becomes my treat.

What do you consider your "treats"?

I have loads but i do give alone.

Blueeberry · 14/04/2026 13:46

I wouldn’t call any of these things ‘treats’ - you’re not a dog, OP. I eat a healthy, balanced diet which typically includes things like chocolate/crisps etc. Everything in moderation.

Jesus this has made me realise how unhealthy I am compared to others Confused

...compared to the others who are actually prepared to share what they eat on a competitive healthy eating thread, you mean!
The average size of people in the UK indicates strongly that most people do not consider a 'treat' to be two chocolate almonds, or tea made without a teabag.

I'll hold my hands up and say I always have home baking on the go, and probably eat two sweet things every day. To save my teeth I try to eat them immediately after meals rather than as snacks, but I often fail. I am not overweight, and do exercise. I see cake as a valid food, not a 'treat'.

@HeyMay but a treat is something that feels extra to you, personally, a bit special. I said posh chocs, because they are expensive so treating myself to a couple is a treat. While a bar of Cadbury would be a snack.

I also eat home made cake and biscuits because that if food I grew up on, so it doesn't feel like a treat. A bought cake however, is rare and therefore does feel like a treat, even if my adult pallet says most supermarket cake is no where near as nice as a home made one.

A healthy treat food might be your favorite but hard to get hold of fruit, or I might say pineapple because preparing is is a pain compared to peeling a banana.

Or it might be loose leaf tea, because finding the time to make tea that way, drink it from a bone China cup and saucer becomes a ritual, is me time and a treat compared to a builders mug and a tea bag.

I totally understand that. 'Treat' means different things to different people and that's fine. I just thought this thread was somewhat unrepresentative of what the averages person actually eats daily in terms of sweet things! I shouldn't have picked on your teabagless tea 😂

No and part of the issue is calling it a treat. Just view it as food like any other, not a reward.

Absolutely this! Regarding any food as a treat is really unhealthy. I’ve lost 3 stone in the last year but trying to change this way of thinking.
All foods can be part of a healthy diet.

JenniferJupiterr · 14/04/2026 15:15

Too many tbh and I switch them around

SassyButClassy · 14/04/2026 16:34

Clipper Ginger/Turmeric tea. It tastes like a biscuit but warm!

I bet you’re happier though! Honestly life is too short to consider a bit of fruit as a treat. And coffee? That’s a necessity for me! I eat bad stuff, yes. Am I overweight? Yes. Do I care? Not really. I enjoy food.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/04/2026 18:18

I bribe myself with so many treats! Morning coffee is a treat. A ten minute break in the garden to check my seedlings is a treat. My favourite sandwich lunch is a treat. Watching my favourite show is a treat.

I have to bribe myself to get anything done! I'm all for having many treats every day!

MooMoo74 · 14/04/2026 18:24

I think my treat would be when I buy myself dragon fruit, it’s amazing but not something I buy often as it’s not the Cheapest . I just have chocolate whenever I fancy it.

MsGreying · 14/04/2026 18:34

A creme egg.

Only until the box is empty.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 14/04/2026 18:39

A glass of fermented grape juice is a treat & also one of my 5-a-day.
Sometimes 2 or 3 of them.

HopeFor2026 · 14/04/2026 18:41

I have to have something sweet everyday, be it a cup of tea with sugar, chocolate etc.
I don't usually have a large amount though, just enough to satisfy my craving.
I get low blood sugar sometimes, so will be shovelling biscuits in my mouth as a quick fix, it makes me weak/faint and hangry. however apparently I'm not diabetic just predisposed to low blood sugar, if I don't eat enough, my BP drops quite low too.
I know it's a bad habit but we are only on this earth for a short time and it's only once a day so screw it.

I'm in UK, & never seen it here.
I know it's popular with Aussies, but I was underwhelmed when I've tried it on holiday.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 14/04/2026 18:43

Me and dh have lost over 12 stone between us and are now at goal weight and our daily treat is an after eight mint. Unbelievably it’s just enough.

mindutopia · 14/04/2026 18:45

I just eat what I want. Never really thought about food as good or bad or ‘treats’. I do often have a snack in the afternoon. Today it was cheese and crackers and a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Dc and I went out for tea and cake mid-morning and I had a slice of cheesecake. This is not at all a normal eating day for me though. 😂

Shallotsaresmallonions · 14/04/2026 12:18

An ice cold can of diet coke. My favourite daily treat.

Ditto but has to be Coke Zero!!

ConnieHeart · 14/04/2026 18:48

Every day without fail, at least 1 treat. Glass of wine/cocktail, nice coffee, slice of cake or chocolate, mix & match

A cup of tea, sitting in the garden listening and watching the wild birds ❤️ or dark chocolate orange coated almonds..... Yummy!! Problem is I can't stop eating them,!

A cup of tea is not a treat ffs! 🙄😆

doghasnoteeth · 14/04/2026 18:50

Have lost 2.5 stone over 12 months. I still have a small chocolate bar or cake every evening before going to bed .And yes I consider it a well earned treat! I eat generally healthy throughout the day and avoid carbs .

Instructions · 14/04/2026 18:56

No because I'm using wegovy

Before that it was generally wine, I would pretty much always default to "ohh I'll just have a glass of..."

BlueberryPancakes17 · 14/04/2026 19:12

I do. It could be a nice coffee, or in the evening some sort of fizzy drink with loads of ice. Or something sweet if I’ve got PMT
