Old enough to remember whole years in which I barely thought about the American president.

And in other news, the Russians are feeling their oats.

For context that sort of thing has been happening, on maybe a monthly or even weekly basis ever since Soviet days..

At least some Dems are attempting to do something, even if it is an extremely long shot - it feels better than doing nothing, somehow.

Nope. Blocked. As are the news folk who do gift articles. And archived is blocked.

The web is being actively censored. News stories that can be found on search in the morning are gone by the afternoon. If ships of a certain nation are "interdicted" I expect all western news will be gone. Local browsers do not allow access to western news sites. And the one foreign search engine has been blocked before.

I don't know about safari though. I have no idea about MN.

Thanks for this. Will c&p for you in future.

I don't think it has been discussed yet. I noticed it but dismissed it as not going anywhere. Sorry! Agree that it's at least something.

Reminds me of a certain country where dc worked that didn't allow WhatsApp.

Trump is gradually alienating countries, leaders, friends....soon there will be no-one left but him and his ego.

Ta very much. Only if convenient mind :-)

As has mentioned often, the pro war folk seem to think that pre-war the Iranians were sat reading western news about how bad their government is, and that they sit there comparing news articles while talking about how to overthrow it.

We know that's not how it works. "Others" appear incapable of grasping that concept.

Having learned nothing from his first outing, Trump's going after the Pope again.

US president Donald Trump has escalated his war of words with Pope Leo XIV through his latest post on Truth Social.
In a midnight post, Trump wrote: "Will someone please tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed, protesters in the last two months, and that for Iran to have a Nuclear Bomb is absolutely unacceptable.
"Thank you for your attention to this matter. AMERICA IS BACK!!!"

When it comes to numbers, the turd is like a fisherman in the pub. It was this big,

Yes, numbers change as new data is compiled. But with Trump, it's always add a bit more on.

I am not disputing anything the good NGOs say, but I get the strong feeling Turd is doing a bit of his own revisionism here.

House Democrats call for commission led by JD Vance to oust Trump
Measure by Jamie Raskin follows statements by Trump about annihilating Iran and post depicting himself as Jesus

Chris Stein in Washington
Tue 14 Apr 2026 20.01 BST

House Democrats on Tuesday proposed creating a commission that would work with JD Vance to remove Donald Trump from office under the 25th amendment, should they determine he is no longer fit to serve.
The measure, introduced by Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House judiciary committee, follows a series of statements from Trump, including his recent warning that Iran’s “whole civilization will die” if it did not capitulate to his demands, and a social media post that depicted him as Jesus Christ.

Democratic lawmakers and other opponents, including the former CIA director John Brennan, have seized on those comments to argue that the 79-year-old president is no longer competent to lead the country, and that the US vice-president should work with Trump’s cabinet to remove him.
“Public trust in Donald Trump’s ability to meet the duties of his office has dropped to unprecedented lows as he threatens to destroy entire civilizations, unleashes chaos in the Middle East while violating congressional war powers, aggressively insults the Pope of the Catholic Church and sends out artistic renderings online likening himself to Jesus Christ,” Raskin said in a statement.
“We are at a dangerous precipice, and it is now a matter of national security for Congress to fulfill its responsibilities under the 25th Amendment to protect the American people from an increasingly volatile and unstable situation.”
Fifty other Democratic House lawmakers have co-sponsored the bill. It faces long odds in the Republican-controlled chamber, where some members have shown a willingness to oppose the president’s policies but none have expressed serious concerns about his fitness for office.
The constitution’s 25th amendment sets out how a vice-president can take over from a president who dies or resigns. It also outlines the process by which the vice-president and a majority of the cabinet can remove the president from office, if they determine the president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties” of the office.
Raskin noted that the vice-president may also make the determination in conjunction with an unspecified “body” that Congress authorizes. His measure would create the commission on presidential capacity to discharge the powers and duties of office, which would be composed of four retired executive branch office holders chosen by Congress’s Republican and Democratic leaders, which could include former presidents, vice-presidents, surgeon generals and certain cabinet secretaries.

Ex-CIA director calls for ousting Trump: ‘25th amendment was written with him in mind’

Congress’s leaders would also select four physicians and four psychiatrists to serve on the body, whose members would choose a 17th person to act as their chair. None of the members could be current government employees or elected officials.
“This body should have been set up by Congress when the 25th Amendment was added to the Constitution in 1967. We have 535 Members of Congress but just one president and this body is a necessary element of successful continuity of government,” Raskin said.
Joe Biden faced similar calls in 2024, in the wake of his disastrous debateperformance against Trump that intensified concerns about his age and led him to drop out of the presidential race. Several House Republicans filed resolutions calling for Kamala Harris, then the vice-president, to convene the cabinet to remove Biden from office, but none were ever voted on.
Trump defeated Harris in that year’s presidential election..

I think it's indicative of how little faith we have in Congress actually successfully "doing something".

I ,too, saw the report of Raskin's proposal and thought "oh, OK... Next!"

But maybe it will stir more serious debate about Trump's mental capacity (à la Biden) at least?

The main plus to putting Vance in his place is that I don't think he has the same doe eyed following. He's less unpredictable but that's about it. He's proved that he's not going to be a breath of fresh air, over and over, including with his comments on the Pope.

Spandauer · 15/04/2026 09:04

Re Vance and his remarks about the Pope.

Hedging his bets to stay in with the boss but also not upset his own religious support.
Arrogant and ignorant.

from NYT report:
But the vice president also echoed the diplomatic approach he took on Fox News on Monday in playing down the political disagreement.
“I have a lot of respect for the pope. I like him. I admire him. I’ve gotten to know him a little bit,” Mr. Vance said. “It doesn’t bother me when he speaks on issues of the day — frankly, even when I disagree with how he’s applying a particular principle.”
Moments later, someone in the crowd interrupted, yelling, “Jesus Christ does not support genocide!” It was an apparent reference to Israel’s war in Gaza.
“I agree,” Mr. Vance responded. “Jesus Christ certainly does not support genocide, whoever yelled that out from the dark.”

My concern is that after this shitshow president there are some Americans who will view Vance, who is articulate and less erratic, as a sane and credible option in 2028.

They’ll find a way to disconnect him from this administration’s record which he himself will cunningly attempt while trying to keep MAGA on side.

Re Vance - I probably wouldn’t try and negotiate a line between Trump’s view on the Catholic God and the Pope’s - might just fail faster than his Iran negotiations.

Anyway, it reminded me that a certain Henry didn’t see eye to eye with the Pope - so there’s that option for Vance/Trump hmm.

Vance was even taken on a tour of Hampton Court Palace during his hols in Britain.

Someone was properly trolling him with that.

If he didn't take that warning about what happens to the self-aggrandising, arse-licky enablers of volatile, egomaniac kings who revel in ordering mass killings, then no one can help him.

I wonder who will seize Vance's riches when King Donald tires of him and turns the judicial weaponry on him?

I think it's a good start. There's not much they can do other than keep up the pressure by calling attention to it. I'd like to see them keep saying it more loudly and publicly and often, preferably to be seen and heard in places other than mainstream media, but kudos to him for doing something. He's one of the few who seems happy to be out there and vocal.

If only the NYT could tell the story plainly instead of hiding behind a wall of 'neutrality.'

But the vice president, who advocates for free speech whilst encouraging employers to terminate people who speak freely, and a liar who changes stances and positions as often as he has changed his name, continued his tradition of attempting to appease both the clinically insane president and the people in the crowd.

They really should hire me.

Agreed about Raskin, @walllaw- as I may have already mentioned, he is my Democrat hero, with all he's been through personally, he doesn't give up fighting on behalf of others. Grace under fire, or something.

RedTagAlan · 15/04/2026 09:55

Reading about the Turds call with Sky news.

He did not know the Kings visit is at the request of the UK government.

That is mind blowing. That a person in his position does not know that, and even if one says he is American, how would he know that, my response is: there is nobody there to tell him ?

Did he really believe the King is his pal?

TirednessOnToast · 15/04/2026 10:17

@RedTagAlan Yes, he really thinks KCIII likes him & that's why he's visiting for DJT's Birthday (US 250 celebrations). Nothing else it could be, in his addled brain. KCIII should play along but 'be advised by his Dr's not to fly' at last minute. Saves a DJT tantrum but also means he forfeits rhe photo opp too.

I bloody love Jamie Raskin. He has intelligence, compassion and integrity oozing out of his pores. Very few politicians of any stripe I'd say that about. It's a bloody shame he's probably too old to run for Pres, and very likely has no desire to.

Is it my imagination, or is Turd getting worse ? That the more attention he gets, the bigger his ego gets inflated, and the more outrageous his claims? Where to even begin with this utter codswallop?

CNN :

"Trump says Gulf countries were "not expected to be hit" amid Iran war

By Catherine Nicholls

President Donald Trump claimed that he stopped Iran from taking over the Middle East in an interview with Fox News, adding that Gulf countries were not “expected to be hit” amid the war.

They were going over to take over the Middle East, and we stopped them,” Trump said in the interview that aired this morning, claiming that his country’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last summer prevented this.
The president also said that if the US did not strike Iran last year, Tehran would have attacked countries across the Middle East within weeks and again criticized the Obama administration’s 2015 Iran deal.

They would have had a nuclear weapon within one month, maybe two weeks, and they would have used it on Israel and the Middle East. And they would have used it on us too - and not just Israel, by the way, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, countries that were shocked when they got hit,” Trump said, referencing Tehran’s retaliatory strikes on Gulf countries since the US and Israel began the Iran war on February 28.

You know, these countries were not expected to be hit, because they were going after those countries. They were going over and take over the Middle East, and we stopped them,” he said."

US to send ‘thousands of additional troops’ to Middle East

I appreciate there isn't a lot of detail here, but why? Why more troops?
