Here vulnerable is a synonym for stupid.

Stupid poor people for their vote.
Stupid rich people for their support.

You will notice that proposition also asserts that wealth and intelligence are only loosely connected.

Farage and Trump have many things in common; one of them being they think those who vote for them are stupid.

Notonthestairs · 16/04/2026 17:20

Well, that looks messy - as you say it will depend on who was told what & when.

I agree, but Kemi Badenoch saying that if KS deceived Parliament, he should resign is a bit much.

Worse than that.

They know they are stupid. That's how they can treat them with such open contempt. They really are too stupid to realise.

The Guardian is asking for more contributions from subscribers. Carry on with this dubious 'reporting', and I'm out - I he crosswords are rubbish now anyway.

I prefer free news. It's more honest about it's worth ....

placemats · 16/04/2026 18:05

Where's free news these days 😄?

DuncinToffee · 16/04/2026 18:34

The timing from both the Guardian and BBC with their articles is interesting 🤔

"Friends off" is a phrase carrying a lot of weight in both articles.

Karistyleaftea · 16/04/2026 19:17

What you thinkin' @DuncinToffee ?
I thought there was a lot of deliberately negative language from the BBC yesterday during discussion of politics - for example apparently people were
"sniggering"
at us ie the UK and they then went on to downplay the growth news etc etc.
In my opinion.

PropertyD · 16/04/2026 19:23

Is it really to be believed that Starmer didn’t know Madelson had failed the DV vetting? He is the bloody PM. He keeps saying this sort of thing, he was lied to, he didn’t know.

What does he know??

Boris Johnson was not security cleared as foreign secretary.

PropertyD · 16/04/2026 19:38

But did the PM at the time claim he was cleared.I find it astonishing that Starmer didn’t know. What is the point of him. He stood up in Parliament to say Mandelson was cleared and now he says no one told him anything.

You would think he was the PM and needed to know these things yet clearly he wasn’t important enough.

The problem is no matter what the actual facts are, some will simply choose not to believe them.

What do you mean by this? Mandelson didn’t pass the DV process and no one thought to let Starmer know?

Its always someone elses fault with Starmer. Its very hard to believe he didn't know.

Those immigration stories are just weird, there is no mentioning how many immigrants use the service, how many are successful etc. The focus seems to be on the immigrants rahter than the dodgy advisors, services. As Jane said, Reform fodder.

The Guardian article was a lot of speculation, it even mentioned that Starmer was not told about the vetting.

Expect more of it. The whole thing is bloody infuriating though.

I am not a plopper btw. I know it looks suspect! Will PM you.

Was he not cleared but they had to restrict information he had access to because he couldn’t be trusted?

Indeed! Even if Starmer goes, i will expect more

Notonthestairs · 16/04/2026 20:30

The Times reports that Starmer was only told this week. On that basis he didn’t mislead Parliament.
Bit less exciting.

He is expected to come to the House of Commons on Monday to give a statement. He’s expected to correct the record

The whole Mandelson affair stinks nonetheless but as said before the media, Badenoch et al stayed quiet when he was appointed.
