He is expected to come to the House of Commons on Monday to give a statement. He’s expected to correct the record

The whole Mandelson affair stinks nonetheless but as said before the media, Badenoch et al stayed quiet when he was appointed.

Nothing is ever the fault of Starmer or Labour.

If he only found out this week then this particular thing was not his fault - however much you want it to be (and you clearly do).

We shall see - I'm a great believer in not judging until I've heard the full story. Are you?

TemperanceWest · 16/04/2026 21:10

An acquaintance of mine wrote a guide to the Moomins. He is a big cat fan as well. Lovely chap.

Nobody is denying that Starmer appointed Mandelson Confused

The statement from Downing Street was clear and unequivocal. I'm sure we will hear more over the next few days, Farage needs to detract from his shitfest and Tices tax affairs (I really want to hear more about those).

Boris Johnson was not security cleared as foreign secretary.

He certainly didn't have Chris Mason on his case.

BBC news. Chris (hand beneath his chinny chin chin) Mason spoke to members of the opposition: step forward

Leader of the opposition Badenoch, who had as usual nothing of any significance to say.

And

Richard Tice (he's a Reform UK MP for god knows where and lives mainly in Dubai). He said blah blah blah I need to get a flight.

Farage thought Mandelson was excellent for the post. Nigel Farage MP is the leader and owner of Reform UK.

He also said today in Merthyr Tydfil that the UK needs the to coperate more with the US when it comes to defence.

MsJinks · 16/04/2026 23:56

I don’t know why some are so keen to get Starmer out - it wouldn’t change the government being Labour, it would cost a fortune in cash and time to change leader - and right now do we need this really - he’s fairly widely agreed to be doing well with this war stuff too. I can only see detriment to changing the leader - for the whole country (except Farage maybe) - cutting noses off comes to mind.

I am interested in how Mandelson got in post - but it’s not top of my government wish list right now, surprised it’s anyone’s.

Edited

So he would have wanted to join the war? Needs to stop u-turning perhaps. Thank god he wasn’t in charge though.

You think you will hear the full story?

pointythings · 17/04/2026 08:41

@Moomintrolleys no more and no less than we heard the full story about one Boris Johnson and his deceit of Parliament. We shall see.

Rachel Reeves said she wants to cut the link between wholesale gas and electricity saying that she and Ed Miliband, the energy secretary, would set out more details within days on ways of ensuring the wholesale price of electricity is set more often by renewables

If they can do that, it would be a key change to the UK's dysfunctional energy market. They also need to look at energy costs for business.

DuncinToffee · 17/04/2026 11:49

Reeves has made a start with that

Farage had this on social media yesterday. Getting rid of Starmer is his only idea other than obsessing about boats. It’s made me really angry and should (if people were thinking) mean his candidates get no votes at all. The Senedd is a national government and is for governing Wales, not for making comments about Westminster. He really doesn’t understand that, and neither do his minions/employees/candidates.

I follow Haystack on SM. I missed his post but saw one this morning saying, essentially, ‘Sorry, it shouldn’t be about politics, I’ve removed it now. Fine mate. But that you thought it was good publicity, which presumably means you don’t think he’s a self serving right wing arsehole, I’m less inclined to give your business my money when I have other choices. Shame. Their pancake stacks are to die for…

Reeves has looked far more confident and in control lately. I guess she’s weathered a storm and knows she has the support of the team now.

DuncinToffee · 17/04/2026 12:01

It still seems suss that the Guardian decided to publish the story now and not months ago. The Independent mentioned it last September

I met William Hague once. He opened the office my company had just moved into. He was leader of the opposition. It was a non event really.

But then he wasn't a Putin-powered Russian racist cunt. Or it he was he did a better job of hiding it than JD Farage.

Hague was involved in the JCPOA negotiations between Iran and the US (as our representative on the P5+1).

A far better politician than Farage is.

The number of people crossing by small boat this year compared to last year. The fall is very real and not seasonal. Little difference in numbers during the winter but since numbers increased in spring, half as many people are coming as this time last year. This is mainly because of European trends.

Just caught the news and they are still wittering on about vetting processes.
They interviewed Farage (still no questions about Tices tax), and some other party leaders.

Do these leaders think that Starmer sits around micromanaging staff several levels below him, because that's how it sounds?
They appear to have no clue about how leadership and delegation work.

This is worrying for Britain.
