Would anyone else here agree with me that the BBC has been sanewashing Trump his entire presidency ?

I think they are over cautious after the Capitol editing debacle. So they are editing in the opposite direction...

There's the Trump litigation regarding the BBC Panorama programme. Which may be why proceed with caution is in place.

As I said, if it was on Trump, I'd buy that.

However there are plenty of other topics that are curated to a particular viewpoint.

Anyway, it;'s clear that even the might of the BBC is unable to hide the ongoing meltdown of a supposedly once great civilisation. I have a feeling that he heard the story of King Croesus, but didn't grasp the subtleties of Delphic prediction.

Piggywaspushed · 13/04/2026 16:13

Bit of a cross post with placemats there. I honestly imagine a W1A type panic meeting every time T*p 'truths'.

The parody of one of his posts on TwentyTwentySix was pretty funny.

Llttledrummergirls · 13/04/2026 20:05

Not only sane washing Trump, but no acknowledgement that the war is illegal and started by America and Israel.

There is a definite lack of facts or reporting about what is happening, but plenty of commentary and discussion.

How many American bases have been struck in retaliation?
How many casualties on both sides?
Losses for each side?
How many sorties have our pilots flown defensively?

I would have loved to know the aims of the illegal attacks, perhaps laid out as smart targets for clarity.

The reporting has been awful.

I agree mainly and it’s appalling.

think there are more US casualties but I think keeping reports low is to maintain yiur country’s morale - doubt bbc would challenge it right now.

Re the aims of the war though - I don’t think Trump knows them - they’ve varied daily though seem to have come to rest on nuclear capacity. The BBC could have had a like Wheel of Fortune up and spun it to today’s aim though I guess - brighten the dreadful news up!

Netanyhu is fairly open about his aims I think - protect Israel from Hezbollah (and Hamas) and Iran funds them. But we are I think still an Israel ally. And most of the time it’s like Israel aren’t involved - not just with the beeb though.

Bit awkward with not agreeing with trump but not wishing to condemn Israel alongside - for the government - shouldn’t prevent updated and accurate reporting especially around what they do mention. They don’t have to make any opinion obvious.

Very troubling.

Llttledrummergirls · 13/04/2026 22:54

Newsnight and yet again the conservatives representative saying we should give America more support.

Fuck right off. This is another example of the tories being out of touch and clueless. Sir Bernard also said that "what we want is for President Trump to support NATO against Ukraine".

He also poo pooed that Trump had invigorated Russian finances.

The tories really are a bunch of absolute wankers.

Notonthestairs · 14/04/2026 08:12

Someone needs to tell Sir Bernard that US support dropped off a cliff when Trump got in. You can see from this that Biden did his best to increase support before he left office. Trump cut Ukraine off.
Why would Trump do that I wonder?

How will the UK cope with demand destruction ?

Piss poorly, I suspect.

There is a lot of 'spend more on warfare and less on welfare' in the media at the moment on the back of Lord Robertsons comments on UK defence.

It's disgusting, disgraceful and totally abhorrent.

Arms manufacturers have always had superb PR ....

Imagine if a report said that the best way to defend the UK was:

  • reduce poverty
  • improve health outcomes
  • improve housing and education
  • reduce crime and antisocial behavour

Because at the moment, there is a deep existential question to be answered over who the fuck wants to "save" this shitshow that merely entrenches and widens inequality and inhumanity ?????

Fuck it, maybe Russia or China could do a better job .....

placemats · 14/04/2026 13:54

Except they didn't during 14 years of a "Conservative" government. Crying over spilt milk is childish and immature. Could do better.

Improve quality of life and maybe more young people will want to defend it.

That is hardly helpful.

Ah yes. This is where the right wingers claim that by cancelling Motability etc we can afford a much bigger army, navy & air force.

The sums dont really add up but certain voters will back it because a) it blames the undeserving poor/disabled, b) it takes stuff away from undeserving poor/disabled and c) they still think they'll get a tax cut.

it means they don't have to fight.

Even given the readership of the Daily Mail and their tendency to soundbite debate, there is no way those comments are all genuine.

Notonthestairs · 14/04/2026 14:43

Same people who voted to slice 8% off GDP now worrying about EU £ contributions?
Fucks sakes.
