It takes more than a bunch of internecine harpies to scare me 😎

My TL;DR from years of casual dipping in and out is that everybody is doing feminism wrong, Especially women.

I was told in so many words that I wasn’t a feminist. It would have given anyone who’s ever met me in the last 50 plus years a good laugh.

Quite.

Well similar to political ideology where left and right meet up round the back, there are many points of contact between feminism (done the FWR way) and misogyny.

Having endured the organic-knitted-yoghurt-vegan-lesbian-whale-sperm-against-the-bomb variety of 1980s student politics, FWR is a kindergarten.

Oh, I am. I have been following this story. It's such an awful , sorry tale.

Is it ? Not as far as the parents on MN are concerned .Much more important to whine about Starmer and make rather gurgly sounds as they sample the delights of Farages anatomy.

Piggywaspushed · 22/04/2026 17:58

I'm always surprised by what isn't posted. I once complained loudly about child poverty stats not being discussed , got told to start a thread. Tumbleweed.

Then I remember not to be surprised.

There were also few threads about Grenfell and the discussion of what is in the news is often very narrow.

CF neighbour has stolen a foot from MY LAND - (drip feed - it was done before buying).

I'm not looking after my grandchildren.

PickAChew · 22/04/2026 18:08

Floor plans! Though I have to admit, I love a floor plan.

placemats · 22/04/2026 18:13

Who doesn't love a floor plan!

Except it's always we need to totally rearrange the layout for not much budget!

My sister and her husband spent a fortune getting the bottom floor of their house redone.

Maybe I am less surprised because I understand how self selection works ?

I only came to MN in 2010 because "chat forums" were on the IT strategy radar.

(Jane has been on MN for 16 years, 15 as other people 😀)

God Ive been here for 20 years, I realise!

BIWI · 22/04/2026 18:21

Every now and then, when somebody links to a very old thread, I'm shocked/saddened to see just how many posters I 'knew' have left or, worse, died Sad

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2026 18:22

I arrived here around Brexit time, didn't post much until later

There was a good reason for it (same reason my grater rarely gets used) but OP didn't mention it in her OP so it turned into a bit of a cancel the cheque thread.

Which begs the question. Why don't you use your grater?

If I recall correctly it was about pre grated bought cheese.

Because I'm hypermobile and it really hurts my hands and something inevitably goes pop in my wrist.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/04/2026 18:51

Coming into London on the train this evening I was chatting to a very well spoken woman about the tube strikes and the generally poor service on Avanti West Coast. She then said what a disaster privatisation had been for the railways and utilities and how she blamed Thatcher for much of the current state of the UK.
I went home beaming with my faith restored in the great British public. 😁

Me too more or less although I lurked for a bit before joining. I first came here looking for advice on how to get scuff marks out of DD’s patent leather school shoes. She’s over 30 now!

Llttledrummergirls · 22/04/2026 19:35

I came for the 11 plus threads, that ds is 25 now!
I came from the eleven plus forum (is that even still going) following a recommendation, possibly for net huns but the ticker tapes put me off.

Similar timeline. I joined for the SN boards. I'd tried nethuns but all the super special angel nonsense put me off. The reality was far too grim at times for that shit but you were not allowed to say so. I was on delphiforums at the time but that was dying a death already and far too american. And too much drama!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/04/2026 20:07

I've been around for about 9 years - started posting on the cat threads and still mainly live there. Nice friendly threads and we don't tend to get people plopping saying 'cats are bastards, get a dog' 😁
