Artemis- the pure amount of disbelief in the space mission

Has anyone else noticed the huge numbers of people who believe it is made up, cgi, actors etc. My fb feed is full of it..add in the flat earthers. Im used to my conspiracy theorist pal coming out with it but this blows my mind that its on such a huge scale. I can't get my head round why it would be made up, what purpose would it serve?

The whole thing bores me rigid: the actual moon landing on 1969, not so much

Notmyreality · 11/04/2026 22:13

Sure you can. Park on the moon. Put on your spacesuit and have a run around. Get
back in and blast off pointing to the Earth. What more is there to it?

Ah, ok silly me there was me thinking it’d be loads more complicated.

I’ll nip up next week and take a look around, you in?

As a general rule, conspiracy theories tend to appeal to the paranoid, the poorly educated, the desperately ill-informed and/or those who have a desperate need to assuage their inferiority complex. Believing in a conspiracy theory makes someone feel like they've got secret knowledge that puts them at a higher level of intellect than the "sheeple" who believe stuff that's merely got a broad and deep factual basis to support it.

Bet your chip implant told you to say that.

You’d already have your spacesuit on. But you might need a coat.

TigTails · 11/04/2026 22:16

Frankly, some people are thick as shit and believe any and all “conspiracy theories” TikTok shows them.

NancyJoan · 11/04/2026 22:18

My MIL is here for the weekend. Casually dropped in this morning that she finds it hard to believe it’s real. No reason, and swears she’s not seen anything online that makes her think that. DH’s eyes rolled almost all the way to the moon.

imbolic · 11/04/2026 22:18

Doesn't bore me, I always wanted to go up in space. I did a degree in Space Physics years back.
However, having discovered how sick I get on extreme fairground rides I suspect I'd have never passed even a preliminary physical.

Yep, nobody's buying it this time.

Nobody??? You mean the people who shout loudest on social media are "everybody"?

ainsleysanob · 11/04/2026 22:22

I love how because they don’t understand something, due to the fact they’re not nearly as clever as even the receptionists at NASA, it must automatically be ‘fake’.

The ‘lack of steam’ upon landing conspiracy is my current favourite

DappledThings · 11/04/2026 22:27

I see loads of it because I find conspiracy theories hilarious so I do watch a few reels. I get a lot of a completely stupid woman who makes all her pronouncements whilst holding a mason jar of raw milk.

But it isn't just in those reels the algorithm shows. Posts from any "mainstream media" are full of comments from people spouting nonsense. There is a growing belief about all sorts of conspiracies.

Ah you have met my parents then? 😂

cobrakaieaglefang · 11/04/2026 22:31

It's the fact that my algorithms feed it, when I don't 'research' it but have had conversations. My phone 'listening' probably worries me more than FB.

The “us and them” attitude is what feeds division and conspiracy theories. It doesn’t help to denigrate those with differing views as uneducated or susceptible- we need to understand why they are questioning things

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 11/04/2026 22:37

ShakyBake · 11/04/2026 22:02

But that's what they did in 69?

Yes, in Apollo 11. But there were multiple Apollo missions before that, including several that were trips around the moon without landing, to test out the equipment and procedures.

cobrakaieaglefang · 11/04/2026 22:39

@categorychaosI agree, it feeds it too, trouble is I'm not clever enough to come up with the maths/ science to argue a point.

Yup, the one that was injected in to me by Bill Gates under the guise of being a covid vaccination and that was subsequently activated by 5G mobile signals.

Definitely. Also my experience it’s just not true that those who believe in conspiracy theories are uneducated or stupid. I’m sure some are but plenty I’ve met are educated professionals. I don’t have the energy to look into most of them but am fascinated to listen, I don’t have to believe it but I don’t get why people get so angry about it.

What would be the point in making it up? Well, there is no point, is there?

Anyway, aside from that, just unfollow the tinfoil twits on fb. Makes life much more tolerable.😁

What if the reason they're questioning things is because they're uneducated and susceptible to believing bollocks?

Charlottapannacotta · 11/04/2026 22:42

Surely everyone knows they can just make a jelly flood if anything goes awry and get back to earth that way !! I miss watching Ben and Holly !

I’ve now died so many times from the covid vaccine that the 5G no longer affects me.

Screamingabdabz · 11/04/2026 22:46

I wonder how they think the weather satellites work? Or GPS? Or technology that has been developed through the space industry?

We have sane (so we thought) middle aged friends who’ve fallen for the conspiracy theories and it’s hard to know what to say. You just can’t argue with stupidity sadly.

Ilovelifeverymuch · 11/04/2026 22:46

ShakyBake · 11/04/2026 21:58

What I find fascinating is they went all that way and didn't get off at the moon? Surely they could've brought a few lumps of it back, it's worth a fortune that stuff

It's a test flight ahead of Artemis 3 which will land on the moon.

The only thing I'm questioning is why some people can so easily fall for conspiracy theories.
