What have you done in the real world that MN disapproves of?

As per the title.... what have you done in the real word that would have Mumsnetter's frothing at the mouth?

I will start.
Someone reversed into my (parked) car and we sorted it out ourselves (without informing insurance!😲) with them paying us to get it fixed (which has now been done).
Gosh..... aren't we naughty!🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have TWO bog brushes. One in the bathroom upstairs and another beside the downstairs toilet. I use bleach.

DH and I never shared finances. Didn't want to and it worked fine for us.

A few.. what a rebel…
not getting married just for security….
not getting married full atop
don’t have a joint bank account with DP even though we have 2dc
use a toilet brush
let my dog lick dishes before they go in the dishwasher….
leave my windows open all year around
don’t put my heating on until it’s reaches below 12 in the house

there’s probs a few more that I can’t think off right now…

I also married my childhood sweetheart. We met when I was 14 and he was 17. It was truly love at first sight. He became good friends with my parents and hung around as a family friend until I was 16 when we started dating and we married as soon as I finished college at 21. I wasn't groomed and he wasn't a pervert. I knew what I wanted and with who since age 14. We had 37 happy years together till cancer took him and I still miss him every day.

I was 14 and he was 16. I didn’t even like boys, as I have 3 older brothers, but there was something about him. We went out together for 10 years before we got married in our mid-20s. We just got on and my brothers think of him as another brother, as they’ve all been family for 50+ years now. I count myself very fortunate.

Love all this! Sounds very much like my marriage and how I parent also ☺️
I never realized MN-ers have demonized the toilet brush.....what the hell is wrong with a toilet brush? Please don't tell me it's unhygienic....I bleach mine occasionally..that's got to be more hygienic than sticking my hand down to the bottom of the toilet pan 😱!!

I don’t get the toilet brush thing either! Very occasionally I’ve even had to use ours after my husband has been in the toilet in the ensuite and he hasn’t noticed Halo

archieshepp · 12/04/2026 06:50

when I WFH I regularly do things like clean my house, pop out to get shopping and on Friday I even took a nap.

Also, I’m a vegan 😂

The marriage thing is actually one of the few things I always agree with on MN. My niece was with her partner for 25 years and he’s broken up with her and she’s entitled to nothing. She’s having to depend on his good will (of which there is very little) to get anything for her and their child.

Married a man 20+ years my senior.
Have tattoos
Answer my door
Use bleach
Let the dog on the furniture

I know this is a lighthearted thread but ….A word of warning re having repairs done without involving insurance: a friend of mine recently had a rear end shunt, the lady who went into her pleaded to have the damage repaired by a pal so she didn’t need to involve the insurance. Friend almost agreed but went down the insurance route. It turned out the bumper reinforcement bar had been shattered by the impact. If it hadn’t been repaired and someone else had gone into the back of her, the rear of the car could have crumpled with potentially disastrous impact for rear passengers. Point being that a private agreemnt will get the basics done, tbe insurance route will likely enaure more thorough job.

I've never paid extra to prebook seats on a flight with my family (and have always been sat together when we've checked in)

TinselandTiarasRightNow · 12/04/2026 07:35

I left a marriage with a young child as i knew I could do better.

HRTQueen · 12/04/2026 07:49

Use people’s pronouns they prefer and still consider myself a feminist

I’m in an age gap relationship and I park in the parent and child parking spots (I’m child free).

Why?

I think most decent people in the real world disapprove of people parking in parent and child parking spots if they have no small children with. them, that’s not just a MN thing.

I think most people are just going about their shopping and don't even notice who parks where.

No, I wasn't into boys and dating, he was my first and only boyfriend.

Sometimes I park in parent and child spaces - youngest dd is 12!!!

liveforsummer · 12/04/2026 08:53

Also still wear skinny jeans

Lomonald · 12/04/2026 09:02

I wear clothes that are considered frumpy and "aging" i am 55 middle aged and want comfort. I have a pure breed dog that I bought and didn't rescue! I clean my toilet with a brush, I don't understand how people clean theirs without.

PistachioTiramisu · 12/04/2026 09:36

I didn't have sex until I was 21 (nor did I want it!), and have only had 4 partners in all my life.

Lucyweeks · 12/04/2026 09:46

I ordered a mobility car so I could go back to work part time.

Ronathediva13 · 12/04/2026 09:48

I believe that trans rights are human rights.
