What have you done in the real world that MN disapproves of?

As per the title.... what have you done in the real word that would have Mumsnetter's frothing at the mouth?

I will start.
Someone reversed into my (parked) car and we sorted it out ourselves (without informing insurance!😲) with them paying us to get it fixed (which has now been done).
Gosh..... aren't we naughty!🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sorry that was supposed to be in support of air fryers.

I let both my dogs sleep in my bed 😜

Our dog lets DH and me sleep in the double bed with her.

Replied to posts on MN re relationships and families.

TotallyBogusYeah · 10/04/2026 21:37

Had an affair many years ago as I was fucking sick to death of being ignored by DH in favour of his close relationship with alcohol and the local pub.
I don’t regret it all and often think fondly of my ‘special friend’.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 10/04/2026 22:04

I shoot and I fish, happily cooking and eating what I shoot or catch, with no qualms whatsoever, seeing it as a perfectly normal and natural thing to do and in no way making me a murderous psychopath.

Sorry, this is all gorgeous, but I'd did laugh at you describing your own kids as "perfectly acceptable" 😂 Well done to you though! Can't imagine ever charging my kids to live at home, but they'll be doing their own laundry (or at least pulling their laundry weight) as soon as they can be trusted too!

To be fair @Blueyrocks they are perfectly capable of doing it all and will do anything I ask, I'm a bit of a control freak in my kitchen. One of them often empties the dishwasher and puts something in a random ridiculous place as a joke to see how long it is before I notice😂
Had a bit of an accident this week and they cooked, went to the supermarket and picked me up from the hospital ........but normal services will soon resume😜

birdglasspen · 10/04/2026 22:16

I own 12 toilet brushes. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
(most are in a business I run…and I am grateful every day that someone uses them so I don’t have to…) I have no issue using them to clean with just object to cleaning someone else’s mess!

I don’t have a “day” for cleaning bed linen it gets done once a month if lucky 😳

Don’t worry in the business I run it gets done regularly!

My children drink diluting juice.

I happily open my door to any random or known person and will help strangers with anything.

I like my MIL.

Ill stay with my DH despite him not being 100% perfect….neither am I.

I invited tons of children to my wedding and Made sure they had toys and fun and an epic football game outside to entertain them.

I don’t like to take my own kids to weddings as I’d rather have fun without them.

My children don’t have iPads. And won’t be getting phones when join high school or before.

I don’t let them run around
restaurants annoying people or being rude in public.

I often wonder how people without loo brushes get their toilets clean?

Put both my kids in CofE schools as I dont want them to be the minority race at school.

I've had arguments with my husband and disapproved of things he's said or done without leaving or getting my 🦆 🦆 🦆 in a row.

lol I didn't realise MN-ers don't like toilet brushes!
Like you say, how do you get your toilet clean otherwise?? 🤔😂

ChangedWhoIWas · 11/04/2026 04:30

Married my childhood sweetheart and have been together 50+ years. Also loved my MIL.
Husband & I have sworn at each other during arguments - apologised and moved on.
I have 2 adult children living at home who don’t pay rent, due to different circumstances atm. One likes to cook for us and the other helps with cleaning - including using the toilet brushes in both toilets.
I wasn’t a strict parent and actively encouraged them to be independent as teenagers. Neither had a curfew and I didn’t wait up until they came home after a night out - they were sensible and would message me about what they were up to.
When they were young, I looked forward to school holidays and we would find things to do that were free or didn’t cost much - back in the day of street directory books, we’d open a page and find a playground, pack a picnic and have a lovely day. Always had a pj day too, where we ate snack food, watched movies and didn’t leave the house all day.
Didn’t force either child to eat food I know they didn’t like. Let the one who liked to game have at it - it’s still their wind-down recreation as an adult, after a busy day at work. Both are wonderful adults and we all like to spend time together regularly.
Loved my parents and still socialise regularly with my siblings, their partners and kids. We all get on.
Have the same friends we had as teenagers and happy to have them pop over, although I prefer a heads-up first, but don’t lose my shit if that doesn’t happen.
I also started work in an adult’s job when I was 15 and worked non-stop until retirement this year, in a high level administrative role. Also discouraged both of my kids from going to university - neither was interested, although it was the expectation of the private school they attended.

mathanxiety · 11/04/2026 05:59

I have a loo brush and I use it as God intended.
I keep sanpro in an obvious place in the bathroom so guests can use it if they need it. I keep a covered bin in the bathroom so they can dispose of sanpro too.

I let my DDs get their ears pierced (in Claire's no less) at the tender age of seven.

I researched how the education system works in the place where I live, and made sure my DCs focused on their school work. This is apparently an example of 'sharp elbows'.

Still let the DCs watch a lot of TV. One had a bedroom TV. Made sure they had PT jobs in their teen years because academic prowess is only one part of the process of learning to make your way in the world. Kids need cultural capital and that includes familiarity with what everyone else is watching, and they need to learn how hard you work for minimum wage and how difficult the general public can be.

I smoke weed.

Love all this! Sounds very much like my marriage and how I parent also ☺️
I never realized MN-ers have demonized the toilet brush.....what the hell is wrong with a toilet brush? Please don't tell me it's unhygienic....I bleach mine occasionally..that's got to be more hygienic than sticking my hand down to the bottom of the toilet pan 😱!!

I am confused by the loo brush mentioning..on a thread some time ago i got a thorough bashing for NOT having a loo brush!!

I have never not sorted a car accident out between the two parties. Insurance is a pain, takes a long time, and is expensive.
I drink most days. Not huge amounts but I like a couple to wind down.
I don't earn huge amounts of money
I own a large dog that hates children
I have been vegan for over half of my life
I own 6 houses and have no intention of selling any
I let tradesman use my loo
I answer the door, even in the middle of the night perhaps wouldn't if not for aforementioned dog
I am in my 40s and still wear fairly alternative clothing and short skirts/hotpants etc
I love any excuse to celebrate.
I am sure there are many more!

I am enjoying this thread.

I wonder about the flip sides! I shop at Shein often, I love their clothes and I am an odd shape (bodybuilder) and they fit unlike a lot of other brands.

It is almost 0800 and I am still in bed, with my 6 1/2 stone dog.

I smoke weed occasionally. It helps my brain, helps me sleep and eases my chronic pain.

I use box dyes because I hate being at the hairdressers.

Had a disabled child. LA won’t provide him a school place either so I hardly work and claim UC

Think of how small minded your comment is.

If a Muslim/Asian mother stated that she wanted her kids to be in a city school in an Asian area because she wanted them to be around others like themselves and didn't want them to be the only brown kids in a class, is that also "massively racist"? It's called normal.

There's a lot of Japanese food, that is surprisingly very British overall. Why do you hate it with a different name?

I don't like raw fish or noodles or tempura batter!

I read a book by a lady who was a Lady-in-Waiting to Princess Margaret. They were good friends, and PM would go round to visit her at her home. Before every visit, she’d hide the toilet brush because she thought it was indecent to display a toilet brush in front of royalty.

One Christmas, PM visited her with a Christmas gift. She unwrapped it, to find it was a toilet brush. Princess Margaret commented “I got one for you because I noticed you don’t have one”. 😂
