Is it easier to look well put together if you are slimmer?

Do you think it's easier, in general, to look smart/nice/well put together if you are slimmer? Or do we perceived that slimmer people look 'better' because of ingrained 'fat phobia' or whatever you want to call this particular bias.

Yes definitely!

I struggled - for the first time in my adult life - with weight gain around menopause and absolutely hated the way I looked in anything.

Then discovered the weight gain was due to an under active thyroid and not menopause. I was prescribed Levothyroxine, lost the 3 st I had gained within 6 months and am now back to my usual size, ( Varies slightly 8/10 top and 10/12 bottom thanks to my caesarean belly. 😁), and finding clothes that look smart is sooo much easier.

But of course. If it weren't, the vast majority of models would be fat, not just a token 'plus size' one. There's a reason why designers choose slim models to show off their collections or why 'slim sells'.

If I didn’t live next to my size 16/18 neighbour, I would’ve said yes. However she has the most amazing sense of style and colour and as a size 12 myself, I envy how she dresses. I wish I could put clothes together like she can

No. I say this as an overweight person with a gastric sleeve and having lost 15st. I've always done my make-up, hair, and clothing nicely. I go from goth, boho, chic etc, and I have always been complemented. If people think the overweight are looking scruffy; it's either because they are in scruffy clothing (Just like a lot of slim people can also look highly scruffy), or someone is looking down their nose at them.

I don't think anyone has said fat people look scruffy, some might, but then some slim people might too.
I think the overall feeling is that slim people can find it easier to look well put together because clothes hang better, but fatter people can still look gorgeous, no doubt about that.

Yes, most definitely. I lost weight through illness a few years ago and I was amazed how everything looked so much better on me than before, and I wasn't that big! I realized that being bigger had made me constantly buy clothes thinking they would make my happy but they didn't. Nothing made me feel good but just losing about one and a half stone made so much difference. It was a really weird time for me to realize I had to stop shopping now and wear what I had previously bought which were good quality clothes that had suited me.

Yes. I’ve lost weight (on the jabs) and I know I look better.

I do. But I also think that it is easier to look 'put together' if your shape is proportionate for your size. I find it difficult to find dresses that fit, for example, because I have a small bust for my hip size. A blouse that fits on the top I can't do up over my tummy. Regardless of whether I'm fat or thin, my proportions are never going to match the clothes I want to wear so I am left with wearing things I can get into rather than things that look good together.
