Wow! Can’t get my head round the idea of people not voting after about 90 million not voting in 2024 and Trump/Harris were about 77/75 million of the popular vote.

What about the lesser of 2 evils?

Surely if people had considered that ‘hold nose approach’ in 2024 we wouldn’t be witnessing the large scale evil that is happening now?

A Vance presidency (surely he’ll run) won’t be decided by just those who vote for him but by those who abstain from voting too, no?

Incredible! or is there something I’m missing?

Well I vote in NYC so it actually wouldn't matter.

But, yes, I'm really disenchanted with the party and the way they fail to foster and nurture and bring along bright young candidates. I'm tired of the fact that the Dems, for the most part, take donations from the same people and special interests as the Rs. I'm tired of the way the party handicaps races in the states, I'm tired of the fact that they don't speak out often enough or passionately enough or loud enough. If they retreat to boosting the same old cast of characters from the first Obama administration, they're telling me they only understand the world that their generation lived in and not the one my kids are going to live in.

Now that's a spooky coincidence.
As a kid, I spent nearly every holiday in a caravan at Trearddur Bay - I'd be able to see that bit of sea every day!
🤯😂

I live on the mainland and can see that in the distance from my house.

So just rely on your fellow Dems in NY to secure the win?

Personally, in this dystopian state, I’d be too scared that every other Dem had the same idea 😱

I like to thing that Brits have learned from Brexit that protest non voting, not just the apathetic type, can back fire.

And on a better note: for our space fans, the Artemis will splash down at around 5pm PDT / 8pm EDT. Reentry begins around 4.50pm PDT

It will be broadcast on NASA's website and their YouTube channel starting at 3.30 PDT. I'm assuming CNN et al will also be broadcasting.

I'm trying to work out the whole Melania thing - apparently her former friend was in a custody battle with a guy who ran a model agency (he supposedly introduced Melania and Trump) and he now works for the government. She's been deported and is apparently prepared to drop everyone in it.

Just a reminder—as we’re all reacting to the First Lady’s statement on the Epstein files yesterday. This guy is still serving in the administration.

I keep forgetting the time difference!

I've gotten up in the middle of the night (here) to watch a few UK events lol. An 8 hour time diff is a bugger.

Yes, it does.

I'm not a 'where there's smoke...' person and he's denying the allegations. But I'm also not saying the accuser is lying either. Hopefully the truth will out.

But guilty or innocent he's dead in the water either way. It's too bad because he was the front runner and IMHO the one who had the best chance of beating the GOP candidate.

I'm definitely worried.

Yup. It's true, and yes, it can.

But I've voted in every election since I was old enough to vote, including the piddly little ones that most people don't turn out for. I've given time and lots of money to candidates and been a passionate defender and supporter of the party over the years, but I'm fed up with the toothlessness.

If Chuck Schumer, my senator, whose office I call and email with some regularity, can't be bothered to actually stir himself, why should I vote him back in again? (Although, please, God, make him retire.) If the reps are going to do things like elect Jerry Connolly, 79 with advanced cancer, to leadership over AOC; and refuse to endorse the NY mayoral candidate that their own voters turned to democratically select in a primary; and fail to nurture solid prospects for the Democratic senatorial seat in Maine, which could be vital for them if they want to take the senate, leaving voters to choose between a guy with a nazi tattoo and an 80 year old, not hugely popular governor, I don't see much hope for the future with them.

Just as an example, last week, when airports were a disaster because TSA agents weren't being paid, ICE was standing around in airports scratching their balls, why wasn't every Democratic senator and congressperson, back home on spring break, standing out there in front of their local airport talking to the media and constituents? Why weren't they saying, this administration did this? They're flying around in grafted Qatari jets and using your tax money to fund this war. If they can't even show any teeth there, why should I believe they have what it takes to fix things?

I've never felt that way before. But the world is a different place than it was two years ago, and if they can't find some fight and the understanding of that, they deserve to lose.

I hear your frustration.

I don’t follow US politics closely enough to offer counterpoints but I must hold out some hope that there are Dems across the country who are fighting - Slotkin?

Unfortunately, as we are seeing, the world will suffer the punishment too, never mind just the Dems or the US.

CaveMum · 11/04/2026 07:59

@walllaw I completely redirect and understand your opinion on Rahm et al and hope that my joking around with @JoshLymanSwagger with TWW references doesn’t annoy/frustrate you. For me at least it’s a mechanism to try and not fall into a pit of despair over current events.

I agree that there needs to be a generational shift in US politics, I guess at the moment people like Rahm seem to be few and far between in the Dems in terms of being willing to actually make some noise and pick a fight.

He fully admitted that in the interview saying:

”If you want just generational change, I'm not. You want somebody that knows how to take on a fight and win?
That's a different battle.”

Spandauer · 11/04/2026 08:56

@walllaw I completely agree with everything you said.

DH and DC can only vote in Presidential elections as they are resident in the UK. So it's the state that DH was last registered to vote in - Massachusetts. Both senators are Dems (Elizabeth Warren born 1949 and Ed Markey born 1946) so even if the voters are happy with their 'progressive' policies it really is time for them to think about letting a younger (i.e. under 65!!) have a chance to move the party forward.

OP posts:
walllaw · 11/04/2026 09:13

@CaveMum No, no! Definitely not aimed at you, and of course I don't mind at all. And I liked Rahm's brand of being a Democrat the first time around - it's more just frustration at the party.

@Spandauer We're also resident in the UK, but I figure Chuck doesn't know that, so we still call to pressure him on his votes 😅. Your state is a perfect example, both good senators, progressive in a way that suits the state, but wouldn't necessarily suit a more conservative state, but, crikey, time to pass the torch - even though I have a soft spot for Liz.

Yes, there are some good Dems out there, and Slotkin is one, it's not that there aren't, but that the leadership is largely failing in both steering the ship and plotting the course.

One thing I can say for sure is that if the DNC doesn't figure out how to handle the dark money/AIPAC funding issue better, they're going to lose a huge number of progressive and/or younger voters. They voted down that resolution the other day, which seems to me like yet another sign they don't understand the current climate and how it's changed.

Hope everyone has a nice Saturday with not too much Donald in it!

UYN · 11/04/2026 09:30

I mean, who cares, really?

This happens regularly in real life.

It's a non story.

To you.

I am sure there are psychologists out there who would agree that evidence of Trump being (in his eyes) a cuck are far more a threat to his sense of self than what to us would be more serious.

This may be that smoking gun. Slightly hidden in plain sight. And the past 2 years have been a desperate attempt to prevent it becoming an accepted fact in the world.

Personally, at this stage of the game, I would definitely experiment to see if it's the case, and if so how that power can be used.

What;s the threads opinion ?

Zero.

What is the purpose of the US Constitution ?
To protect and preserve the US

What is the point of the US ?
To protect and preserve the wealth of the people who founded the US.
