I would say other than the useful fool, but I think he was more taken aback than happy until he realised how much money he could make off of it this time around.

It’s deeply upsetting that all of this, the tariffs, the war, they’re just games to him, so that he can financially milk them for all he can while he’s on his ego trip.

He said it recently when asked by a journo about his plans for Cuba ‘I can do anything I want’.

And I don’t think his response was limited to Cuba. He believes he can disrupt the world as he sees fit.

It is just obscene thinking what the world must endure for the next 2+ years.

Oh, LOL, I love that one! The Vance effect! LOL.
Maybe Farage will not have him "helping" during his future campaign.

By the way.... Trump was so enraged about some Labour members taking part in the US campaign, and now... the Vicepresident of US is ok to "bump" another country part's campaign? When Trump protested about the Labour ones, who did not include any Minister, Chancellor or high rank? Double standard much...

I did agree with Trump and Vance on Labour folk helping. I reckon that was a really stupid thing for Labour HQ to do.

Sorry.

That is a tip for Vance and company! Tell him to do what you do not want him to do.

"Oh no, please, Mr President, Sir, not the briar patch! Please don't throw us in the briar patch!"

I am impressed by the No Kings protests.
Can Congress do something? At least vote on the progress of the war? On the threats in Trump TS, the agreements (10 points, but not those 10 points, these other 10 points..). And can they impeach him again? Or is it too soon?

Europe and tge rest of the world is going to have to show him that is time to reign in his behaviour and stop. US dollar dumping, refusal to air space/ ports/ bases, no renewal of trade agreements and so on. I think it is well overdue that we start talking to Trump in the same way he talks to our leaders and just say plain NO, that is stupid.

It was nothing new and alongside the Tories they have been doing the it for many elections.

They were not directly interfering with the election.

Hegseth lied... surely not?!

Army survivors of deadly attack in Kuwait dispute Pentagon's account, say unit "was unprepared" to defend itself.

The members CBS News spoke to disputed the description of events from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who described the drone as a "squirter" — in that it squirted through the defenses of a fortified unit inside Kuwait.
"Painting a picture that 'one squeaked through' is a falsehood," one of the injured soldiers told CBS News. "I want people to know the unit … was unprepared to provide any defense for itself. It was not a fortified position."

I don’t regard Trump voters as generally unintelligent.

Well they can compare their IQ scores in basic training when they have been called up.

Proposal seeks to streamline national service registration process but raises fears about prospect of young Americans being called up and sent to Iran should current conflict drag on or escalate

"GOP ignores Democrats' push to rein in Trump's war powers in procedural mid-recess session

By Sarah Ferris

House Democrats on Thursday unsuccessfully attempted to force Republicans to take up a measure reining in President Donald Trump’s military authority in the ongoing war with Iran.
In a brief, procedural pro forma session during the House’s two-week recess, New Jersey GOP Rep. Chris Smith did not recognize Democratic Rep. Glenn Ivey of Maryland as he sought to introduce the war powers measure.
As Smith began to formally adjourn the House and end the session, he ignored Ivey’s increasingly loud demand to be recognized on the floor. Behind Ivey, a group of a half-dozen Democrats also raised their voices and pressed Smith to acknowledge their push.
“Shame!” Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon of Pennsylvania shouted after Smith banged the gavel.
Ivey said in his final audible remarks before leaving the floor: “The Congress needs to consider this. … The time has come.”
Republicans are not bound by chamber rules to recognize Democrats in a pro forma session. But House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had announced a day earlier that Ivey would attempt to force the measure after Trump threatened to end a “whole civilization,” and then brokered a last-minute, two-week ceasefire that has largely held so far."

Putin is having the time of his life!

  • Helping their friend Iran with Intel, likely weapons too
  • Cashing oon extra sales of expensive oil and enjoying lifted sanctions
  • Taking Europe's attention to the ME did not work that well... they did not move enough ships, planes, helicopters and personnel. Not as many as Putin was hoping to have out of his way. But this ME crisis is keeping Europe busier than before, and poorer than before. Weaker.
  • Trump is threatening NATO, yet again (why does he just put in his notice?). This may affect US contribution to Ukraine. Putin is loving that.
  • Trump is threatening Greenland. So there we go, Europe has Putin at the East, has to watch the West like a hawk and may.... have to fight the US for it... Even Canada must be in high alert. Then goods transport, fuel, fertilizer and peace of mind are not coming into Europe from the Middle East, or if they do, at the will of Iran and US- Trump.
  • China is weathering it well, because they are prepared, with high reserves of oil, but they are going to be pissed at the refuced exports when the economic disaster strikes their customers. But that is not Putin's fault, so his other big friend is ok for the time being.

Trump trusts Putin, he tells us.
I can see why. It is like Trump works for Putin. And he is a very good worker, indeed.

This US- Putin alliance is far too dangerous for Europe. We should counter attack with a trans Eurasian trade block, come alliance. From Europe to East Asia. Then Putin would be in the middle. Russia may actually think of joining in and remove Putin. Or Putin actually give up taking a scrap of land in Ukraine and join himself. Europe could even romance the Middke East a bit, as US has proven to be a failure in providing security and defence. Africa is just by here too.
Tell me if I am crazy, but we do need to counter-attack this US-Putin love affair or Europe is going to be squashed in the middle of them.

We are NOT all 'sitting and watching'. There are widespread protests going on and calls from many quarters to invoke the 25th. What else would you have us do? Storm the Capitol a la Jan 6? Hire ninjas to take him out? Spike his Diet Coke with Rohypnol?

You're right in that there is nothing we can directly do to get him out of office. So we're doing what we can.

That's all very well. However you have to remember how much the rest of the world - (English speaking or not, thanks to your inherited monogloty 😀) have had to endure endless lectures by the medium of network television about how amazing the US is because it was founded by a bunch of tax dodgers brave rebels throwing off the yoke of tyranny. Paul Revere, midnight rides, Nathaniel Hawthorne wishing for more lives to give in the cause of lower tax receipts freedom

But now - with ICE killing more people that King George ever did - it's best to wait and see ????

Are your elected representatives not accountable to the people?

How far does he have to go with his madness before the 25th is invoked or he is impeached?

Notwithstanding that he is surrounded by cowards in his cabinet and the republicans in congress?

Are there no limits by which the levers of power would finally take action to remove him or is it the case, as he probably thinks, that he is unstoppable?

Tony Benn: Five Questions About Power

Tony Benn once said there were five questions to ask people in power which indicated what kind of democracy was in operation.

Benn was a British Labour politician. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1950. After his father died in 1960, Benn became a hereditary peer, Viscount Stansgate, and lost his right to sit in the Commons. He fought to renounce his peerage, returned to the Commons in 1963 and served as a minister in the governments of Harold Wilson. He remained in parliament until 2001 and died in 2014 at the age of 88.

What Power Have You Got?
Where Did You Get It From?
In Whose Interests Do You Exercise It?
To Whom Are You Accountable?
How Can We Get Rid Of You?

I didn't say that. When America, because that's who Trump is representing – like it or not – threatened Greenland the rest of world finally told it to stop.

I hope the same is true of Israel's nascent genocide of Lebanon. The rest of the world is finally saying "Enough".

AcrossthePond55 · 09/04/2026 18:27

@DuncinToffee

Yes, it's being organized as a "Workers Over Billionaires" day of action. With strikes, rallies, marches and a national day of no school, shopping, or work.

There has never been a national general strike in the US and the last 'localized' general strike was in 1946 in Oakland CA, mainly due to the Taft Hartley Act of 1947. So it will be interesting to see how far actual strikes go. But as far as no school, no shopping, or a day of 'blue flu' I hope to see some big numbers.

Wipeywipey · 09/04/2026 18:30

The world needs to sanction America as one voice. I can't see any other way of the world truly holding them to account. He is getting his own way and everyone watching are being enablers, so of course he isn't going to stop. Sanctions are the only global threat left.

We all know his plans for Greenland and we all know our countries could be next.

Shame indeed. They need to keep going at it.
Surely there are quite a few Republicans who do not approve of this war.

If Iran are smart which I suspect they are, they could wait until the US ships arrive, then reopen the SoH until the US fleet lose interest, wait until they are half way home, then close it again. I can’t see a land invasion, it’s just too ridiculous even for the orange one.

I beg to differ, absolutely NOTHING is too ridiculous for the orange one as long as the sycophantic idiot whispering in his ear at any given moment says it at the right time.
