Is there a time limit to report someone to the police for purposely shoving you hard in the shoulder, and is that actually a crime ?

It happned at a party 7 years ago now and the person that did it was also a party guest

he is some sort of police commissioner. Or high up in the police
and it worries me someone abusive is in such a position
but also guess he’s well protected

i mean is this even a crime
He fully put his hand hard onto my shoulder and shoved me hard
more like a hit than a shove

Reason he did it

I was in his way taking a photo

I really don't think the police will be interested in this 7 years later (or possibly even at the time).

I'm curious as to why you want to do something about it now?

purpleme12 · 07/04/2026 11:58

Agree with the above

Why are you asking about someone who shoved you 7 years later

FaceIt · 07/04/2026 12:00

As above, I don’t think it would be regarded as serious, and also could you prove it?

Why are you holding onto this incident? Do you still know him?

ValidPistachio · 07/04/2026 12:01

Were there any witnesses, or video footage?

Villanellesproudmum · 07/04/2026 12:01

No, why now, what’s the point?

LisaVanderpumpy · 07/04/2026 12:02

I don’t know why it’s still bothering me 7 years later

I guess if I report him I’m just wasting my time and upsetting myself further

it was more like a hit than a shove
hard to explain on here but it was horrible

The police won't care about something pushing you out the way for a photo 7 years ago. Don't be daft.

Quite possibly as it happened at an event that gets filmed

7 years ago… it’s time to move on. The police won’t care

Usernamenotfound1 · 07/04/2026 12:07

You can report it.

however it won’t go anywhere, unless there are multiple other reports of him doing the same thing to support your statement.

7 years ago- can you show injury? Did you seek medical assistance? Any witnesses? Do you have a copy of the photo?

it would be very difficult to prove- it would come down to - he hit me- no I didn’t, and it would be filed.

also contrary to your belief it’s unlikely he would be “very well protected”. PSD is brutal these days. But as I said there really isn’t a case to answer as you don’t have anything to assist your case.

LisaVanderpumpy · 07/04/2026 12:08

Suppose as well if he’s high up he will get protected
on his uniform he wears a yellow and red ribbon,
then a burgundy one with two white strips
then a blue one with two white stripes

no idea what the ribbons mean but I guess that must mean something
some sort of award I guess

guess it’s maybe worrying me as I think someone like that could be upto all sorts and maybe I should have reported it at the time but I was genuinely upset

saying shove makes it sounds less worse than it was
it was really hard and fast like a hit

Usernamenotfound1 · 07/04/2026 12:09

oh and common assault has to be brought within 6 months so no chance 7 years later.

Abh/gbh has no time limit but you would need to show your injuries met that criteria.

He pushed you out of his way, because you were in his way, that doesn’t mean he’s up to all sorts of criminal activity.

Yes I suspect his done all sorts of other bad things
if he can do that to someone for no reason

i do have a photo of him
I might report it
even though ill feel so daft
but it might help back up anyone else’s claims i guess
then ill just move on

that’s what I’m gonna do and I’m gonna stop thinking about it now or try to at least
thanks

Surely they'll ask why its taken you so long to report and may well just come down to his word against yours....but good luck anyway!

noidea69 · 07/04/2026 12:13

Must surely be a back story between you and this fella for it to have got you worked up for 7 years.

No it doesn't but its worrying someone who behaves like that is in a position of authority and high up in the police. But it's too late to do anything about it now.

MajorProcrastination · 07/04/2026 12:14

It could be part of a pattern of behaviour so although it's not major, perhaps it could help if someone else has a physical assault experience involving him.

I'd look at how you're wording it and make it very clear about the physical force that was used and the impact on you. Because my first impression was of a little shove at a party rather than a violent shove. Did it bruise?

Think you quoted the wrong person there

SleepingisanArt · 07/04/2026 12:17

Is this a wind up? You claim to still be dealing with this 7 years after he 'shoved' you out of the way at a party? So do I file complaints about all the people who have ever shoved or pushed me on a crowded tube or train? Who barged into me in a nightclub? I'm sorry but you sound unhinged and like you desperately want something to happen to this guy. Forget it and move on with your life - life is too short for this stuff - there are other more important things which you should focus on.

BillieWiper · 07/04/2026 12:19

Yeah I think it's too long ago and there's no evidence and you weren't injured.

If you're still thinking about this I suggest you seek some counselling. If you haven't already.

UpDownAllAround1 · 07/04/2026 12:21

Thought 6 years was usual statute of limitations to bring a case
