Oh he’s back towards B’ham now

The orbit that the Ryanair did about 8 miles out is certainly a bit odd....

Looking on line as a poster said it's not a weather prob...at a guess either the KLM that landed before needed priority for some reason or the Ryanair flight had a minor problem that needed time to sort out before making the approach...but that's pure speculation.

It’s landed now.
We’re about 30 miles away, it’s breezy but nothing like yesterday and flights before it looked to have landed normally.
I’ve flown that route a number of times and it’s around a 35 minute flight, that one was 1hr 40.

I saw the top flight of over 100k once, cant remember why though. Some flights are expected eg world leaders, pop stars, footballers etc. Or sometimes people follow a flight to see who it is and why everyone else is following them, then other people add to the numbers and no one knows why!

Would its callsign have been R3DN05E by any chance?😁

Given what you've said about flight times to hold for as long as it did that aircraft must have left Dublin with a heck of a lot of fuel.....I'm almost wondering if the reason for the holding and then the 360 turn once lined up for the approach was to make time to burn fuel to get the weight down to landing weight.......I can think of maybe a couple of reasons flights can get into that situation but it's v rare.

Certainly if that aircraft does a quick turn at Brum this evening and goes out again there can't have been much if anything mechanical to cause the holding.

ETA: and just after I posted that aircraft popped up on Flightradar and is taxying out after a very quick turn.

Does anyone actually pay for FlightRadar please and, if so, is it worth it?

I do, I pay for silver, it is about £10 a year I think. Apart from no ads, timeouts etc. the reasons I pay for it are

  • you get a good history of your flight (I fly a lot) so you can get the real information about your flight in the past. Although I am fine in real life, I am quite a nervous flyer deep down and like to know how long I am going to be in the air. This is never as long as they advertise (so a 2.5 hour flight is often in the air for less than 2 hours). This gives me comfort.
  • I can time picking my family up from the airport absolutely, to the minute, it has always been absolutely accurate
  • They are more up to date about delays than the airport, and because you are often waiting for an incoming plane on the same route, and then you can check where it is. Often in the airport, there are no delays reported, but you know if the incoming plane is still only halfway there, you are not going on it on time. Doesn't make it better, but at least you know.
You can probably do the latter ones for free, but it isn't a big subs fee. HTH x

Apologies if you know this but the official sector time on timetables and the official times of departure/arrival you see on most websites etc are based on times leaving the gate>arriving at the gate...

Flightradar often displays times differently for reasons that are maybe for another time.

So unless you're unlucky and are on a longish flight that ends up plodding into very unfavourable headwinds you almost always find your actual flying/airborne time is less than the sector time. ..funnily enough the difference is usually around 30 minutes, exactly as you mention.

@BIWIYeadon here too! I grew up in Eldwick and a Sunday afternoon was often spent watching the planes take off. I’m in my 60s and when I was a kid the security seemed nonexistent - you would literally walk upstairs to the departure lounge from the entrance, and then when a flight was called people would file out through a side door. I remember flying from there a couple of times as a child, though Manchester or Luton were more common (70s package holidays!). I flew from Yeadon more regularly when I lived abroad as a young adult.

Location of the pub I mentioned above.

That looks good! We often walk at Chevin so a pint there would be great!

Lalgarh · 06/04/2026 08:59

I saw a plane con trail last night that seemed to zig zag. I looked it up on flightradar but it didn't seem to show up, so I'm wondering if it was the wind
