Anyone else watching?

We were on the flight. It's really comforting to know people are watching from below!!! The first attempt was very frightening as he pilot didn't pull up until what seemed meters from the runway. On the second attempt he seemed to abort sooner... I guess like your second serve in tennis! Anyway, I was relieved when we didn't go in for a third attempt. KLM were rubbish.... not a word on board... everyone was white as a sheet.
I don't really understand why we even tried for Newcastle, when surely the airport would have said what the windspeed and direction were? We got a taxi from EDI... but when we got home to just outside if Newcastle there were trees down across the road etc... why would you risk a landing in those conditions when you could have stayed in Amsterdam or diverted straight away?

IAmKerplunk · 05/04/2026 15:26

Poor you @cuthbertcave - must have been scary! glad you got home safely finally. Do the airlines organise a taxi for you and was it straight away?

How do you see that?

I'm new to this and just using the website. No account set up. When you click on a flight and the information box comes up, scroll right down it to the bottom.

(Says Travellers)

There's icons with people's photos. If you click on them, there's lots of extra info.

No, they kept us waiting for maybe 2hrs saying they were organising buses, then suddenly announced that we should get a taxi home or book a hotel and send the bill. I'm not a KLM fan... I feel sorry for older people or anyone who isn't confident in dealing with things, as there was no one in person to help whatsoever.

Yikes, never investigated that function and not sure I'd be keen to publicise my travels but everyday is a school day, thanks.

Initially I thought it was real-time, but on a second look I think it's not 😊

Wow. I use the app so don't think it's on there. Also can't see the numbers re how many are watching a flight.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 05/04/2026 16:20

@LargeAmericanoQuick blimey. That’s…..a lot of information. Who have they registered with? Are these people with a paid for account with flightradar? Or it connects with the separate airlines or something?

I clicked on a current EasyJet flight going to Birmingham, it said last updated 4 hours ago for the person I clicked on, and it’s a less than one hour flight, so maybe when they check in it’s updated?

I can see both those things using the iPad app and the phone app.

I've just found them. I swear there was an ad banner across the top last that topped me pulling down to see most watched. Tbh, the most watched now are close to 5,000 so are they just normal figures?

The passengers looks like passengers who are registered with FR so are opting in to giving that information.

I saw the top flight of over 100k once, cant remember why though. Some flights are expected eg world leaders, pop stars, footballers etc. Or sometimes people follow a flight to see who it is and why everyone else is following them, then other people add to the numbers and no one knows why!

I didn't know what TOGA meant, and appreciated the explanation.

Me too, thanks for the info @notimagain

One trying to land at Leeds/Bradford today - appears almost diagonal at times. (If the link works - for those with Facebook)

Ahh, just what every thread needs. A “knowledgeable man” to keep us little ladies right.

One of my volunteer colleagues is a former BA pilot and SHE is a delight.

I grew up in Roundhay, so LBA is always/will always be Yeadon! When we were kids, we used to go as a family to watch the planes. There were far, far fewer then so it was exciting and a lot less routine than now.

(Although last night was anything but routine Shock)

I do like sitting in the beer garden at this pub, almost at the end of the runway! The planes are so low over you.

One year, when DD was young we decided to do some plane spotting on the way home from Otley show, so we parked at the end of the runway at the Otley end and found that it was a great spot to watch planes.

I get the best view on my laptop, then my phone. The info box on my Kindle Fire covers most of the map and is useless.

MadisonAvenue · 05/04/2026 21:59

There’s a Ryanair Dublin to Birmingham flight currently looping around just north of the airport for the 8th time.

IAmKerplunk · 05/04/2026 22:03

Looks like it’s going round again!

RampantIvy · 05/04/2026 22:14

Is the weather bad at Birmingham?

IAmKerplunk · 05/04/2026 22:18

Where is he heading? I’m about 50miles south of Birmingham and no bad weather here (obviously I know that doesn’t mean B’ham has none)
