Easter Eggs are so expensive this year!

DS asked for a Lindt Easter egg this year. It was £12! Even the Cadburys ones are £8.
Hoping to grab some cheaper after Easter 🤣

I noticed that this year and a lot of them are large luxury ones. Seems daft when most of them go to small children.

Brightbluesomething · 04/04/2026 11:10

Not necessarily. Cadburys eggs are £3.50 each in Tesco. Just don’t buy the huge overpriced ones?

Proudofitbabe · 04/04/2026 11:12

Totally agree! Not just the price but I got a Crunchie one which would previously be considered Medium but now labeled (and priced!) Large and had one snack-size bar - huh 😩 AND some “eggs” are now flattened?? Just a complete con this year! Such a shame, I love Easter eggs but that’s a tough spend to swallow.

It’s £25 where I live, so £12 sounds cheap to me. I really don’t think £12 is expensive for a Lindt Easter egg.

Angelil · 04/04/2026 11:56

Paid 14 euros for a large Galaxy egg this year from the expat shop where I live overseas. 12 euros for the Twirl one (for my 2 boys to share) which was only a bit smaller. Guy who ran the expat shop seemed to think it was a bit expensive but comparing with the prices mentioned on this thread it sounds about right (and quite fair when export/import charges are factored in!).

kalokagathos · 04/04/2026 12:00

Price of cocoa tripled . Unless you pack it with alternatives , it will be cheaper and full of garbage too.

MerryGuide · 04/04/2026 12:08

Egg pricing will have been based on peak cocoa pricing, its likely to be much better next year (or not if they've now established people will pay it)

I was going to post the same, I've been to Tesco this morning and there weren't loads but there were some of every type and most were on offer

Do they have Tesco where you live OP?

shuffleofftobuffalo · 04/04/2026 12:12

Yep I wanted a modest Cadburys type one for DD and they were all either ££ or really big/fancy.

Onadark · 04/04/2026 12:14

YANBU I cannot fathom how we have gone from £6 to a large egg to £12 for half an egg! It's crazy.

StrangerTwings · 04/04/2026 12:14

They do seem more expensive, I've bought less this year. I used to buy the DC a big one of their favourite and a medium other. Can't justify £12 on an egg so they've just got a medium one each and a multipack of their favourite choc bars each instead. There were still aisles full in the shops yesterday whereas in previous years they'd all have gone by now.

Only they are currently charging a lot and filling it with rubbish!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 04/04/2026 12:27

I've noticed that they aren't doing the kind of eggs where you get other things in them for kids - bowl, egg cup, teddy or whatever. Nothing like that at all. Only a kinder egg with a toy in.
But yes, the price is too high for me personally. We've limited what we bought massively.

Sparkletastic · 04/04/2026 12:28

Loads of cheaper ones than that in Sainsbury’s

Escapetothecatshome · 04/04/2026 12:34

I did fancy a large Lindt one - who doesn’t but something over 10 pounds just seemed to much for personally to part with ! and you can’t really buy just one without it being unfair. So I’ve bought some small and medium ones, for a bit of variety.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 04/04/2026 12:38

We bought the Marks chocolate Easter animals. They are about £7? £7.50?

My kids get bored of chocolate quickly and/ or eke it out for literally months - often find myself baking with or throwing out ends of Easter chocolate in June or July - so we usually just get them one of those animals and a pack of mini eggs wrapped in foil for an egg hunt. Overall comes to about £9 per child.

leaflikebrew · 04/04/2026 12:41

Ludicrously cheap in Aldi - I've bought 5 - everyone is getting one Grin

@Clowningarounthen don’t buy. I don’t and my kids were never into them (gently engineered by me 🙌😜💰) win win 🏆

doitwithlove · 04/04/2026 13:48

Give a bar of chocolate rather than an easter egg.

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2026 13:53

£2 for an egg.

You choose to have a huge / branded one.

Cocoa harvest was poor - climate change impacts. Not helping the price rises…

Give it a day ir so after easter then buy them half price.

RudolphTheReindeer · 04/04/2026 14:20

I think people have cut down this year due to the price? In the past in the week before Easter there's been barely anything left but the shops still seem rammed this year.

Last year the Easter eggs in my local Tesco never reduced they just stayed the same price as before Easter

ChasbutnotDave · 04/04/2026 14:37

I got mine a few weeks ago in Tesco when they were on at a good price.
I was in Asda the other day and there were loads of eggs and they seemed pretty expensive so can see them still hanging around after Easter.
