I’m sure there have been numerous threads on this but thought I’d ask what audacious behaviour have you experienced on FB Marketplace?
Mine without exception is always when we’re offering something for free.
Advertised a number of kitchen cupboards FOC the other day. Woman turns up to collect, in a tiny car. DH told her they wouldn’t fit, she said that she’d need to make numerous trips. She had nobody to help her so DH had to break off from painting 3 times to load her car.
She just stood there and never said a word.😂

Your DH didn’t have to do that at all? She didn’t stipulate he did?

Conniebygaslight · 03/04/2026 15:14

What was he supposed to do?

ElizabethReed · 03/04/2026 15:15

It was kind of him to help as a single woman with a small car. I would be very much the same situation and I’d be very grateful for assistance.
Presume she didn’t come back with a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine ?

ForTipsyFinch · 03/04/2026 15:15

He didn’t ‘have’ to at all 🙄 maybe she was prepared to do the multiple trips and he jumped in to offer.

No, she didn’t even thank him.

Edited

She just showed him the boot of the car. He wasn’t going to let her struggle with them. A thank you would’ve been nice

I was giving away a chest of drawers once and specified the measurements very clearly, stating that anyone collecting with a car should check it would fit.

Well, the people who rocked up had a titchy car and we had a hell of a time getting it in, though somehow managed. There were 3 of them and one had to get home by bus because there wasn't space for him in the car after we put the back seat down.

Oh, and the usual chancers demanding items after you have reserved them for someone else "but I neeeeed it!" 🙄

notacooldad · 03/04/2026 15:20

What was he supposed to do?
' come on lass, I'll give you lift with this, I'll take this one and you bring that one over.'
( the small drawer, cabinet, whatever) and make a comment about many hands make light work.

Oh yes, that too. Can you drop it off at 3pm on Wednesday? 😡 Not likely!

Giving away DD's school coat which was school logo branded, a woman messaged asking if she could have it. I happen to have mutual friends with her so I know her kid goes to a different school, seemed odd for her to want it in that case but she said it was for a friend of hers and I just wanted rid so whatever. I messaged back saying sure I'm home all day so pop by any time to collect, she replied 'well since you're not doing anything you can just drop it off to me' followed by a link to her Avon selling page (I had not asked).

Cheeky mare. Told her it was no longer available a classmate of DD was having it.

DH was selling some classic memorabilia for £25.
A bloke rings up and he said he will come round. Bloke brings a child who is about 10. The bloke says that he'll give dh a tenner for it. Dh said no we agreed £25. The bloke starts going on that it's the child's birthday and he really wants it and the child only has 10 pound birthday money on him.
Dh said OK, you give me £15 and he can give me 10. The bloke called Dh all sorts of names and said he had broken a child's heart.
😆 Dh said no, it was he who had done that, now clear off !!

VivaciousCurrentBun · 03/04/2026 15:28

I gave a way a Little Tykes car and had no issues and picked up a dressmakers dummy last year in good order. DS got his first ever free marketplace item recently a set of golf clubs in good order with bag, he turned up on time. He said it was obviously a house clear by the family happening after an old chap had died. He was very polite and thankful. So it’s been ok for us.

notacooldad · 03/04/2026 15:30

'Tell you what, I'll take this end, you get that bit'
( even if he could do it himself)
Seriously I wouldnt let someone make a fool of me

I would gave probably said something like ' im in the middle of doing this paint job, the units will be OK here until you can get someone to give you a gand. I'm sorry but I cant stop this job now.
Theres loads of things that could gave been said.
However im on high alert for CF's and have an answer for everything these days!

CheeseLand2 · 03/04/2026 15:30

even when I price something very reasonably people will still insist on offering a pound less which really pisses me off.

Once a guy came to collect a Wendy house (again priced very fairly) and announced on the doorstep that he only had half the money but surely that would be ok? I told him that actually no it wasn’t ok and there’s a cashpoint down the road….

I think he just wanted it doing quickly, we’re not traumatised by it, just unsurprised. We were advertising a fridge FOC a while back and a CF asked us to deliver it, I asked if he wanted me to swing by Tesco and stock it for him. He called me a bitch. 🙈🤣

At the moment I'm frustrated by the 'I'd like to buy it and do you have any jewellery, watches or gold I can buy?'

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 03/04/2026 15:50

I gave away a divan style single bed, with mattress. The person collecting wanted to come at 7am on a Sunday morning. No problem with that, I'd be up anyway.
Three people turned up in a three door little hatchback and insisted on trying to get the bed in the boot.
Not an isolated incident, stupidity and cheeky fuckery in rude health here.

Vintageblueribbon · 03/04/2026 15:57

Oh God,facebook selling

I was stung once with some woman wanting pink paint

I happened to have loads left over from painting ds's bedroom (not a typo-he wanted a pink room)

Anyway,I said she could have it for free if she could pick it up

All good,we arranged for her to pop by (she lived about a mile down the road)

Waited in,no show

She then got in touch with 'sorry!' and could I meet her in town with it?

Oh and did I know x same surname as me?

No i didnt-turns out she was the ex girlfriend and mother of dc to a cousin of the side of the family I dont know (big family feud from before I was born)

(She made it clear I was to embrace this side of the family (strangers to me as I didnt even know they existed) as 'your all family!and i want to see you all together!')

I was taking dd to have her eyes tested so agreed to meet there

No show-i lugged it there and back in a heatwave

Getting pissed off but was a soft touch at the time or fool depending on your point of view

Anyway she asked if id drop it at hers as shes a skint single mum (so was i) and reeeaaaallllllyyy needed the paint as she couldn't afford to do up her dds room without it

I knocked and no answer but knew she was in as I could hear her having a row with the lad who is my cousin

I gave up and donated the paint-to which she went nuclear and started a smear campaign against me-it had her banging on my windows and nasty messages

(I went to the police who had a word and she calmed down but carried on slagging me off)

She even had the cheek to try and be centre stage at my uncles funeral a year or so later while slagging me off, saying I didnt show as I am a nasty bitch who didnt give a fuck about him

Why i'd go to a funeral of someone I didnt know is beyond me-i hadn't seen nor spoken to him in over 35 years,I didnt even know his adult dc or grandchildren existed

I toughened up against cfs now, first sign and I shut them down and refuse to budge

(Edited as I wrote she was mother to cousin not his dc)

I was selling some nice quality baby stuff cheaply on a local FB page. Woman said she wanted it, she lived about a mile away. Then proceeded to make a massive song and dance about collection, basically insisting that she collected it Mon - Fri 10m - 4pm. I am always out at work then so I said no sorry, how about early evening or weekend? To which she then accused me of being insensitive to new mums and how dare I suggest she impinge on their family time! She refused to send her husband round after work, or I even offered to deliver it but she "didn't want the disturbance for her baby" 😂. She finally got to could I leave it in my porch for her to collect while I was at work and pay me later? Yeah right love!
