I’m sure there have been numerous threads on this but thought I’d ask what audacious behaviour have you experienced on FB Marketplace?
Mine without exception is always when we’re offering something for free.
Advertised a number of kitchen cupboards FOC the other day. Woman turns up to collect, in a tiny car. DH told her they wouldn’t fit, she said that she’d need to make numerous trips. She had nobody to help her so DH had to break off from painting 3 times to load her car.
She just stood there and never said a word.😂

I listed a nursery set for free. Silver cross Wardrobe, cot bed with a drawer and a chest of drawers. Matching set, immaculate, husband could deliver if lived near by. Listed it for free as we had used it for our 2 younger children. Loads of messages from parents asking if they could have it. One cheeky person demanded he have it as he could 'sell that on at a good price' his reasoning was I clearly didn't want it anymore and he would be collecting and it would save me the hassle. Turned nasty when I said no! The intention was for it to go to someone who otherwise would go without it due to the cost of them. Not for someone to immediately sell on!

MinnieMountain · 03/04/2026 20:29

Arrived an hour early to collect something. I had been clear I would be out before that.

I have heard the advice to not give things for free to avoid the worst so I listed a garden storage chest for £10 which was £100+ new and in great condition. The first person to message definitely wanted it but mentions she’s not driving, and asks can it be taken apart to go on the train, as she lives right by a station a couple of stops down from me. We check and find that it’s not designed to be taken apart and will break if forced. I said it can’t but being nice (and wanting it gone) I am happy to help get it onto the train. It’s light but awkward for one person, and through my back garden it’s only 2-3 mins walk. She was grateful at first but then the CF comes out… She asked me to take it on the train to her stop and she would meet me there! In disbelief I asked her to clarify in case a misunderstanding, but no, she thought she was being completely reasonable, said obviously she doesn’t expect me to deliver (only 90% of the way, eh). I sent her my thoughts and blocked her, flabbergasted by the cheek I said you’re not having it at all now 🤣

A man bought an item from me, then complained that the item didn’t work (even though I successfully tested it before collection.)

When he complained, he immediately sent me his PayPal email address for a refund. I told him that he would have to return the item in order to get a full refund… Then he blocked me.

TurnipsAndParsnips · 03/04/2026 21:42

I was asked to deliver a set of suitcases that we advertised for free to High Wycombe bus garage as the person who wanted them didn’t drive. We don’t live anywhere near High Wycombe.

In case there is anyone who has not seen it, Lou Wall does a comedy sketch that captures the dynamic of this perfectly. It is on YouTube. Where is bed.

I’ve already posted a link to it in the thread.

ToadRage · 03/04/2026 23:08

Listed an old bed for free. Arranged for it to be collected one Saturday morning. I told the guy that I wouldn't be there cos I was working but my husband would be and could help him take it down the garden steps to his vehicle. He never turned up, my cynical but usually right husband thought that cos he noticed the seller was a woman he was hoping to be able to overpower me on order to rob me but on finding out my strong husband would be there he changed his mind.

AllIwantedwasanMOT · 03/04/2026 23:17

I listed a laundry airer FOC. Cue sob story about someone's dryer breaking and needing it to get the kids' uniform dry and could I please deliver because she doesn't drive? Ehm, no hun. It's COVID, I'm 5 months pregnant, don't drive either and it's free!

ToadRage · 03/04/2026 23:30

I was selling a dress for £20. Rather than using PayPal or bacs she posted me a £20 note and asked me to send the dress ASAP. I said I would not send it until the money arrived and she messaged me every day to ask if the money was there and why hadn't i sent the dress yet.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 03/04/2026 23:39

I’m never listing anything for free on Facebook marketplace ever again. Have recently tried and been inundated with time wasters and muppets and barely any manners between them. Lots of “I need this for my kids” but clearly don’t need it enough to show up when they say they will.

Also had someone ask if I would deliver and said no. She messaged back the next day to ask when could she collect then but it was already gone. Got a right load of snark about being out of order as she was interested first. Well don’t ask for delivery on a free item when you know you can collect!

Riverpaddling · 03/04/2026 23:41

I advertised a staircase for sale recently (assembled and with balustrade). One woman messaged wanting me to either:

Store it at ours for 4 weeks until it was convenient for her to collect.

Or (preferably) deliver it to her house where she'd arranged someone to pay us for the stairs (note NOT for the delivery costs). She lived an hour away from us and the staircase was so large you'd need a long wheelbase van to deliver it. CFery of the highest order.

MoonChild111 · 04/04/2026 00:55

Oh the CF’s are among us! 🤣

I sold a bathroom storage unit on FB MKT a few years ago, a couple turned up to collect & she then said she hadn’t brought enough money & I had to give it to her for the reduced amount!
They were both really aggressive & rude, and argumentative then eventually drove off.
Later on I realised they’d snuck back & stolen a lovely stone gargoyle I had outside my front door 😔

It still upsets me that they were so horrible & then stole a very sentimental item from me.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 04/04/2026 01:01

Kites200 · 03/04/2026 19:55

I've also had 'Delivery?' to which I reply 'Manners?'

Haha yes, the one word messengers get short shrift from me too

I hope you reported them for theft!

Babyboomtastic · 04/04/2026 01:25

The baby bouncer shudder

Sold for £10. The woman asked if I could deliver as she didn't drive and told me where she lived. I said I didn't either, and gave my location (approx 100m away from hers!!). Said I could probably see her house from mine. She couldn't walk the 100m as her baby had a cold apparently 🙄. I said I'd drop it off when next out but her boyfriend came to collect.

An hour later she messages to say the vibrate function doesn't work. We offer to take a look, she decides it's fine and to keep it.

Next day, it's playing up again apparently. I end up giving her a refund.

Works fine but batteries were on the way out 🙄
Sell it to someone else for the same amount, no problems.

krustykittens · 04/04/2026 02:07

I was selling a dolls house once, collection only, someone contacted me saying their disabled friend would love it, could I do a four hour round trip to deliver it and knock off 50 % of the price? Oddly enough, I didn't jump at this offer.

franklymydearscarlett · 04/04/2026 08:26

I simply ignore then block anyone who asks for delivery / doesn’t say please and thank you / says “I want it” / comes across as even remotely weird or dodgy. I have a very high CF radar and have no time for it.
I am really clear about the price and always double state it. Hardly any issues.

I did have one lady turn up to collect a little purple pedestal unit thing on foot with a buggy and a toddler in the pouring rain. She said her daughter’s name was Violet and she wanted it to match her room. She was very sweet and it was obvious she was going to struggle so I gave her a lift, she lived about 5 mins drive away so I do a good turn when I can.

for giving stuff away we now have a local WhatsApp group, very naice and polite, you are only allowed to give stuff away not sell and not post about anything else or the admin deletes it. You’re not allowed to add anyone unless the admin does it. So it’s all very civilised and people do collect. Often it’s people you know as it’s very local.

Babaar · 03/04/2026 18:05

I listed some good quality, nice condition toys, free, stated I would not deliver, collection only. I received a message, predictably, asking me to deliver (about 8 miles away). I politely declined. The CF messaged me "but you must bring them here or my child will be disappointed". She attached a map and gave me a choice of two time slots when I must deliver.

You just need to block at the first sign of CFery.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 04/04/2026 08:51

I have quite a bit on FB Marketplace but it just sits there for ages more often than not whereas items tend to sell really quickly on Vinted. Also you have the pain in the arse of trying to arrange collection times. I had one woman interested in a sterling silver & green amber ring.It had already been reduced to an extremely reasonable price & she tried to take me lower but I refused. In the end, she agreed to pay what I wanted & then we had the palaver of arranging collection! Eventually, she turned up. I had my phone on silent for some reason so didn’t immediately get her message that she was outside. As soon as I got it, I replied to apologise & she blocked me! Why she just didn’t knock or if she was unsure which house was mine knock on a neighbour’s door to ask , I have no idea!

DreamyJade · 04/04/2026 08:56

Not FB marketplace, but a car boot. A friend was selling an expensive baby activity centre. It was at the end of the morning and we were about to pack up to go home and a man approached and asked how much she wanted for it. She asked for a fiver and he pointed out that one of the little toys was missing. So she ended up being bartered down to 50p because she wanted it gone.

Just as we were leaving he ran over again and passed her a piece of paper with his address on it and said “If the missing part turns up, can you post it to me or drop it off?” She let rip and told him it would be a 100 mile round trip, and if she posted it the packaging alone would cost more than 50p, never mind the postage. He was extremely put out! 😂

Summersongroses · 04/04/2026 09:14

I was selling a small TV. It was on for £40 (basically brand new just didn’t use it). Woman said that it was for her daughter, and gave me a sob story that they didn’t have much money and it was for a birthday present and could I come down to £20. I agreed just to try to be a good person. They came to pick it up and the husband/partner who came with her to pick it up, peeled off a £20 note from the biggest wad of money I’ve ever seen. I was so cross. At least hide the big wad of money and just hand me over one £20!!!!

Ncisdouble · 04/04/2026 09:17

Never ever list anything for free. It filters out the absolutely crazy ones.
I had generally just the typical - "can you deliver" when I clearly stated collection and "i only have x" when they turned up.

Memorable one was person turning up to pick up x inch marked tv and moaning it's small.... So why did you want it?! I clearly stated the size.

Adelle79360 · 04/04/2026 09:54

I’ve had the collection/delivery thing too. I’m always really clear it’s collection only. When they ask if I can deliver or post I say it’s collection only as per the listing. Once had somebody tell me I could go to the post office to estimate shipping costs and let them know how much so they could decide if they were prepared to pay it, and then I could go back to post it if they did. FFS NO!

Mammyloveswine · 04/04/2026 11:53

I sold a pram on fb marketplace for £80, was an oyster and I’d bought a brand new seat, cover, hood etc. woman came to collect it, came in the house and loved it, wheeled it around put her baby in it… about a week later sent me a message saying it stank of mould and it ruined all her babies clothes.. absolute lies and I replied saying she had seen the pram in the house and tried her daughter in it before she bought it! Absolute cheek!

noticed she had listed it for sale for £50 saying “nothing wrong it I’ve just bought different pram”😱

people take the absolute proverbial!

Luluissleeping · 04/04/2026 12:51

I listed a tabletop freezer for £35. Man showed up and offered 20. I said no, 35. He pulled out a fiver. On and on this went with me insisting on 35. I got there in the end.
