Do you change clothes when you come inside?

When I get in from work, the first thing I do is change into my house clothes (joggers and a cosy cardigan, take off my bra). I feel a bit like an old lady but I dress smart at work and when I get in, I'm cooking and taking care of young children. I hate to get spagbol and children's grime on my work cardis/trousers/etc. Am I alone in this?

Asking because after we have the children in bed, I usually lay on the sofa with DH and watch a bit of telly, and promptly fall asleep. I wonder if being in my pyjamas has anyting to do with my attire. (Probably I'm just knackered and I'd fall sleep in jeans, too...) I reckon I could put on a pair of jeans and a less-smart jumper when I come in but honestly I can't be arsed to change twice!

Nope

RosesAndHellebores · 01/04/2026 19:44

Nope but my work stuff is washable and I tend not to get dinner down me.

1000StrawberryLollies · 01/04/2026 19:44

No, I stay dressed in whatever I've been wearing. I don't get changed until I go to bed. It seems like a relatively recent thing, this desire to be in 'comfy, cosy' things the minute you get in. I don't find my normal clothes uncomfortable tbh!

blythet · 01/04/2026 19:45

If I’ve been wearing something ‘nice’ during the day to the office or out with friends etc I do exactly the same. If ive been wearing leggings or something casual during the day I don’t usually bother.

its more a comfort thing for me. I feel more relaxed and comfortable in joggers/loungewear than jeans or a dress

Jewelanemone · 01/04/2026 19:50

Yes, I always change into leggings and a baggy t shirt. I can't relax in 'smart' clothes, and I think jeans are uncomfortable for lounging around in.

This is why I hate surprise visitors 😆

dottydoglover · 01/04/2026 19:52

Change from work clothes or gym attire into pjs and then feel nice and relaxed whilst watching tv

Lobesloope · 01/04/2026 19:52

Yes i dive straight into my comfy joggers, loose bra and cosy jumpers 🩷 bliss

DelurkingAJ · 01/04/2026 19:52

No, and even in the days of being in a suit and heels for work the most I ever did was swap heels for slippers.

YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself · 01/04/2026 19:52

I did see something recently that said if you wear structured clothes it improves productivity, boosts mood and there is a definite mental shift from slobbing about clothes, so probably op.

I do change into scruffy joggers and jumper when cooking as I don’t want to make my jeans, or a top I can get a second wear out of, smelly.

youalright · 01/04/2026 19:54

Yep bra comes of baggy tshirt and joggers go on and hair goes up and then I pray nobody turns up unexpectedly

StrongandNorthern · 01/04/2026 19:54

I always change into 'comfies'. Have done ever since changing out of school uniform (a very long time ago).

oustedbymymate · 01/04/2026 19:54

Yep I have house clothes

hahabahbag · 01/04/2026 19:55

No, mostly I wear one set of clothes daily (nothing at night) but I wear mostly jersey dresses to work

Monolithique · 01/04/2026 19:57

Not unless the work wear is uncomfortable, in which case I should really get rid of it ..

Gwenhwyfar · 01/04/2026 19:58

No, because I wear comfortable-ish clothes outside the home as well.

1000StrawberryLollies · 01/04/2026 19:58

I know this is going to sound twatty, but I can't stand the vocabulary used to describe this concept either: 'comfies', 'joggers', 'cosy', 'buttery' leggings, 'snuggle'. Yeuch. It's all a bit infantilising imo.

Notateacheranymore · 01/04/2026 20:00

Whether I get changed or not is dictated by whether I go upstairs before I have my evening meal. If I do, then joggers or pj’s it is, otherwise I wait til bedtime.

My DH on the other hand, will even leave shopping, chilled, frozen, whatever, to nip upstairs and get changed. If he knows he’s going to be home for longer than 30 minutes, he’ll change. I can’t be arsed with that. And his mum and dad always have/had house clothes. But they have been keen gardeners in their time. So I guess it’s a family culture thing because his 2 sisters and his nephew do it too. Even if they’ve been out for the evening, and are having a cuppa or something stronger before going to bed, they all troop off upstairs first.

TotoandFredo · 01/04/2026 20:00

Yes, most of the time I’ll change to something more comfortable and that I’m less bothered about getting messy because I’ll be cooking, painting and playing with the dog and it’s easier to do all that in leggings and a hoodie that I don’t care about messing up.

SummerInSun · 01/04/2026 20:02

I usually wear suits, silk blouses, etc, to work, so yes I absolutely change when I get home. Those are not sensible clothes for eg cooking, lying in bed with the kids reading bedtime stories. But into the sort of clothes I’d wear on the weekend - jeans and a T-shirt or sweater. Occasionally if I’ve had a rubbish day and I’m home late I will climb straight into my PJs but if I do that I have a much less productive evening! Once I’m in PJs all I want to do is read or watch TV, not do more work and the housework!

ForestHare · 01/04/2026 20:04

Sometimes I do. I've fallen asleep on the sofa in my outdoor/day time clothes, but the association of sleep with your pjs probably doesn't help

DappledThings · 01/04/2026 20:04

No. I don't find any of my clothes uncomfortable. Including my bras. Never even slightly felt this desire to take it off when I get home that so many talk about.

RoyalPenguin · 01/04/2026 20:05

No, not until I get into my PJs.

JuniorMint14 · 01/04/2026 20:08

Yes, always change after work or if I'm wearing anything smarter. I'll even sometimes swap between jeans and comfy trousers a couple of times in the day if I'm in and out for various reasons.

Terriblytwee · 01/04/2026 20:09

I don’t but my husband and daughter change into pyjamas as soon as they get in. I find it really depressing for some reason.

previouslyknownas · 01/04/2026 20:23

Yes I have my lounge clothes that I change into when I come home
