Do you change clothes when you come inside?

When I get in from work, the first thing I do is change into my house clothes (joggers and a cosy cardigan, take off my bra). I feel a bit like an old lady but I dress smart at work and when I get in, I'm cooking and taking care of young children. I hate to get spagbol and children's grime on my work cardis/trousers/etc. Am I alone in this?

Asking because after we have the children in bed, I usually lay on the sofa with DH and watch a bit of telly, and promptly fall asleep. I wonder if being in my pyjamas has anyting to do with my attire. (Probably I'm just knackered and I'd fall sleep in jeans, too...) I reckon I could put on a pair of jeans and a less-smart jumper when I come in but honestly I can't be arsed to change twice!

I've always done that; I have my "going out" clothes and my "staying in" clothes.
My "staying in clothes" do not include a bra! Oh how I hate them...

I like to be comfy and dressed for whatever the temperature is inside ( always too cool in winter and always too hot in summer) so I over dress or under dress, and try not to splatter when preparing meals, but if I do, it's not my 'good' clothes.
Of course, If anyone should come to the door-- I duck down, creep upstairs and wait for them leave!

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 01/04/2026 21:56

Yes, yes I do!
I strip down naked and put an oodie on. Every time... unless it's too warm for that and I put on pj's of shorts and a top. Love it.

Can you tell I live alone?

ArcheryAnnie · 01/04/2026 21:56

I usually wear comfortable clothes to work, so the comfort angle isn't an issue (except for the bra), but I always get changed into indoor clothes when I come in, unless we've got visitors. It's an extension of taking outside shoes off at the door, I think - I don't really want to bring the muck of the city onto my furniture every day.

(It makes no sense as I'm not household at all, but there you are.)

EwwPeople · 01/04/2026 21:57

Yep. Mainly because bra comes off as soon as I get home so I might as well completely change.

I know this is going to sound twatty, but I can't stand the vocabulary used to describe this concept either: 'comfies', 'joggers', 'cosy', 'buttery' leggings, 'snuggle'. Yeuch. It's all a bit infantilising imo.

Me too .. hot choc.. movies.. fluffy socks . Yuck!

HamBap · 01/04/2026 22:11

Yep, out of work clothes or jeans and into house clothes, then pyjamas around 8, never before!
Means my jeans get more wears between washes and the knees don't go baggy, and work clothes don't get worn out, stretched and bobbly from rubbing against sofas and lounging positions.

OopsieeDaisy · 01/04/2026 22:11

If I’m wearing leggings I’ll just stay in them but if I’m in jeans or a dress I’ll change into leggings or joggers as soon as I get home. I don’t feel relaxed in jeans etc, it’s not comfortable to sit on / crawl around the floor with the kids, and as others have said, you can get another wear out of clothes only worn for a few hours!

OVienna · 01/04/2026 22:14

Yes if it is the eve and after work.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/04/2026 22:18

I usually swap to leggings and non wired bra at some point, mostly in evening, it’s just more comfortable.

NancyJoan · 01/04/2026 22:19

Only if I have been extra smart for work, or if I am cold. Then I will put on a pair of lounge trousers and a sweater. I wear a bra day and night, and never put on my pyjamas until I go up to bed.

RampantIvy · 01/04/2026 22:21

I changed out of my work trousers into joggers when I came in, but I kept my bra on as I don't find them uncomfortable.

I don’t either. I do have quite small boobs but even when they were bigger bras weren’t uncomfortable on me, I couldn’t feel them and still can’t!

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 01/04/2026 22:27

No. I get changed into pyjamas sometimes in the evening after it's unlikely anyone will call.

DaveGroh · 01/04/2026 22:28

Always in comfies !

Luxlumos · 01/04/2026 22:31

I clicked on this thread thinking it would be about hygiene and outdoor germs. What you do sounds reasonable - my dc change out of their uniforms and get comfy when they come home. I don’t because I work from home and I’m already comfy.

Goinggreymammy · 01/04/2026 22:32

No, I just get on with what needs doing, I don't think i would ever have had time to start this.
When I was a child we lived on a farm and always always changed into 'home clothes' after being at school, shopping, church, visiting, anywhere. I kept this up at my home for many years, even keeping 'old clothes' there to wear when I visited. But I never did it in my own house.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/04/2026 22:33

Don't you mean that you lie on the sofa?

Meteorite87 · 01/04/2026 22:33

Jewelanemone · 01/04/2026 19:50

Yes, I always change into leggings and a baggy t shirt. I can't relax in 'smart' clothes, and I think jeans are uncomfortable for lounging around in.

This is why I hate surprise visitors 😆

Agreed on all counts.

Thankfully I don't get many surprise visitors after I've taken my bra off and changed into comfy clothes.

nowayho · 01/04/2026 22:35

I get changed straight into my pyjamas or comfy leggings as soon as I get in the house. I can’t stand being in my outdoor clothes all day.

I can't feel my bra either. What is so uncomfortable about them that so many are feeling?

I'm the same.
I just don't notice when I'm wearing mine.

cmonspring · 01/04/2026 23:01

same op, straight in to joggers and a jumper when I get home, never pjs though.

Spaghettea · 01/04/2026 23:06

Always. Shower and into trackpants and t-shirt. It's warmer and softer on my IBS stomach.

“Joggers” is fairly standard, isn’t it?

DeftGoldHedgehog · 02/04/2026 02:50

No, unless I am dressed smartly and want to be more relaxed. Normally my work clothes are smart casual anyway, quite comfortable and don't need changing.
