Do you change clothes when you come inside?

When I get in from work, the first thing I do is change into my house clothes (joggers and a cosy cardigan, take off my bra). I feel a bit like an old lady but I dress smart at work and when I get in, I'm cooking and taking care of young children. I hate to get spagbol and children's grime on my work cardis/trousers/etc. Am I alone in this?

Asking because after we have the children in bed, I usually lay on the sofa with DH and watch a bit of telly, and promptly fall asleep. I wonder if being in my pyjamas has anyting to do with my attire. (Probably I'm just knackered and I'd fall sleep in jeans, too...) I reckon I could put on a pair of jeans and a less-smart jumper when I come in but honestly I can't be arsed to change twice!

Yes. Getting changed out of my fairly smart office gear, or outdoor clothes, and into something like loungewear or PJs is something I’ve done since I started working 40 years ago. Much more comfy and relaxed. And taking off my workwear helped me forget about work for the night!

I only change because I wear NHS uniform and it goes straight in the wash.
I also change if Ive been out wearing a dark colour because I have a white cat and Id get covered in her fur.
I could do with one of those old fashioned house coats.

Envying the lucky women who have bras so comfortable they can't feel them. What's that like?

All my bras are like that. And they are underwired too. I have only a couple of brands I'll wear.

I'm trying to work out what isn't comfortable! I just got dressed and I'm trying to concentrate really hard on being able to feel it at all and not really managing to. I'm not more aware of it than my socks or my jumper.

Yes. Same as you. Wear tights to work when cold too so cant wait to get them off. No small kids to sort do i tënd to jump on bath when get in as others have eaten when i have office days

If I’m wearing jeans I will change into comfier trousers. The bra comes straight off mind.

Yes, I do. I wear smart clothes for work and so why would I wear them around the house? I dont look like a slob when I get home but I do change into yoga pants and a comfy top.

Also, for me, the changing of the clothes represents the physical boundary of switching off from work. The ritual of it has become very relaxing to me.

ImFineItsAllFine · 02/04/2026 09:31

No I don't, but my work clothes aren't uncomfortable and they aren't super smart. Loungewear doesn't look very flattering on me and I feel like a blob if I wear joggers/leggings for very long.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 02/04/2026 09:34

Yes I change, but I like to have that demarcation between work and home. My work can also be a bit grubby so I don't like to wear those clothes when I get home.

Don't you mean that you lie on the sofa?

No, I meant lay. I am no longer human by the end of work, dinner, and bedtime. I lay my weary bag of bones upon the sofa (whilst DH, still human, sits upright), and promptly fall asleep.

I like to be comfy as much as the next woman, so, i don’t wear uncomfortable clothes that means i have to pop on something more comfortable, as soon as I get home.

Belladog1 · 02/04/2026 11:38

It depends. If I have had a smart day at the office (clients coming in) then I get home and get on leggings / t-shirt etc as I need to take the dogs out for a walk.

If we don't have clients in, so I go to work quite casual, then no, I don't get changed.

I only get into my PJs early when it's a hair wash night. I only wash my hair twice, sometimes three nights a week, so I will take an extra shower in the evening and do that, and then put my PJs on.

I remember a few years ago when I was working for a supermarket, a colleague came in buying a few things about 5 hours after finishing her shift - still in her uniform.

I asked her does she take off her uniform when got home. She doesn’t!

When I was there - got my uniform off asap when got home. The uniform was horrible plus usually something dropped on it such as chicken juice, raw egg etc
