Keeping once worn clothes between wears

Chalatte · 31/03/2026 12:24

Where does everyone store their worn clothes? I love with 3 kids and partner and everyone has clothes"they wore just the one time to go to the neighbour's house", or nightclothes to reuse the next night, etc

With 5 multiple sets of worn clothes it gets overwhelming fast! Looking for ideas.

It is slovenly, I know Allseeingallknowing but I'm a total clean freak when it comes to the floors and entire house, no way would I do it otherwise. Plus the clothes are usually just dumped there overnight or 2 days max. I do check inside any long sleeves for spiders with my phone torch sometimes!

I agree. If it's been worn it goes in the wash, not putting worn clothes back in with clean ones 🫣

How utterly wasteful and unnecessary.

I just put them back away 🤷🏻‍♀️

If they are clean enough to re wear they are clean enough to go away.

The banister rail on the landing is where my clothes go in that inbetween stage. I will try and wear stuff again within a couple of weeks so stuff isn't hanging on there forever.

Mogbiscuit · 31/03/2026 23:26

Once aired overnight, clothes which are clean enough to wear again are clean enough to be put away.

GlomOfNit · 01/04/2026 00:02

I hang nightwear on hooks on back of en suite door - PJs or nightdresses get changed every 3-4 days but I wear clean pants in bed every night. Obviously daytime pants also go into the wash daily! Bras will be rotated but I'll probably wear each 4-6 times before (hand)washing as I'm not sweaty there. Jumpers, dresses, jeans will be slung over the top of my chest of drawers. It's a bit of a heap. I might drape dresses over the stair bannisters, but I'm trying not to. DH has a clothes valet sort of thing, but he used to have one of those naff wooden towel holders for his clothes. DS1 seems to have adopted the Chairdrobe approach, though sometimes misses the chair. DS2 is a filthy beast and absolutely everything he wears goes straight into the washing machine as he strips for his evening bath.

I wear mostly wool socks so they don't need washing each wear - I'll handwash them to prolong their use. Anything worn tight against my armpits is likely to need a wash after wear but I'll sniff first. Woollen jumpers, if they're actually made of wool, really don't need frequent washing - spot-clean if needed, wash once or twice a woolly jumper season. Some looser fitting things, like pinafore dresses and dungarees, won't get washed until they're visibly dirty. I refuse to be guilted about this. We are fucking up our planet at a horrifying rate. Most of the world can't comprehend how many pieces of clothing we lucky few have to wear, and we're compounding our consumerism (I'm not immune to that!) by washing it all the time.

Bubble567 · 01/04/2026 00:08

We have a bedroom chair that holds the worn clothes for the next day. I recently bought my daughter a large plastic tub to put clothes in to be re-worn which is working quite well, it looks tidier than our chair!

TooPoor4PandaPooTea · 01/04/2026 00:13

On the exercise bike handlebars. 20 years old, it's in excellent condition.

DiscoBeat · 01/04/2026 00:13

HScully · 31/03/2026 12:33

I just put them back away 🤷🏻‍♀️

If they are clean enough to re wear they are clean enough to go away.

Me too, I'm mystified by this. If they're not clean enough to go in with your clothes why are you wearing them??

EconomyClassRockstar · 01/04/2026 00:17

I'm so confused. They just go back in the closet to hang up? Also, I think my kids must be defective because I've never had a day where they could have re-worn their clothes. If they wore a top for 5 minutes, you can guarantee something was already slopped down the front.

Allseeingallknowing · 31/03/2026 22:36

Using the floor to keep your worn clothes on is slovenly, apart from creepy crawlies who may inhabit them.

If you have creepy crawlies on your floor, you have bigger issues than wearing a pair of jeans more than once.

RoyalPenguin · 31/03/2026 12:29

I have a shelf in the wardrobe set aside for this reason and so does DH. The DC use the floor 🤦‍♀️

The same 😏

LoudSnoringDog · 01/04/2026 06:42

I had some hooks put on the back of bedroom doors precisely for this.

Basketballhoop405392 · 01/04/2026 06:46

I have a small kallax unit for my hair and make up etc. But now the top twp shelves dont have a basket and I fold clothes like that and store them in those gaps. I know they've been worn once so if I choose to wear gain then goes In the wahs etc.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 01/04/2026 07:11

Valet stand

mydogisthebest · 01/04/2026 08:48

Easterchicken · 31/03/2026 21:47

If it's worn ...it gets washed. Scruffy not to

So you wash jeans every time you wear them? A jumper you might wear for 2 hours you wash?

So unnecessary and wasteful. Clothes don't last as long when they are constantly being washed and as for the waste of water and electric!

rockinrobins · 01/04/2026 08:57

I just have a separate small basket for them. If it builds up and I don't end up wearing things again within a week or two, I will just wash it and put it away.

echt · 01/04/2026 08:58

Clothes to be worn again are turned inside out and lightly sprayed with diluted Zoflora then left on a hanger to air in the walk-in wardrobe.

momager22 · 01/04/2026 09:03

Hang them on my exercise bike handles 😬 they get creased if I stuff them in my crowded wardrobe

DoubleEspressoForMe · 01/04/2026 09:13

I do what my Mum has done and her Mum before her. We've never washed clothing everyday, why would you need to unless its dirty? Jeans, jumpers, even tshirts etc, can generally be worn again. Largely I put them back away. Although if I know its going to be worn the next day and I'm being lazy I just fold them up and put them on the ottoman at the end of my bed, with the sock amnesty (lonely socks waiting to see if their pairs ever come out of the wash).

FernandoSor · 01/04/2026 09:15

The floor. Like a normal
person.

Jellybelly80 · 01/04/2026 09:23

They go on a rail in my wardrobe area overnight then back in the wardrobe the next day.

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/04/2026 09:32

"sprayed with diluted Zoflora"

😯😯😯

LittleBearPad · 01/04/2026 09:40

Pjs under the pillow obvs.

Clothes that can be worn again back in the wardrobe unless I’m going to wear them the next day when they hang on the end of the bed/chairdrobe.

I don’t understand hanging them inside out. If they are clean enough to wear why does it matter they’ve been worn once?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/04/2026 09:40

Hanging is better than a chair pile
