Keeping once worn clothes between wears

Where does everyone store their worn clothes? I love with 3 kids and partner and everyone has clothes"they wore just the one time to go to the neighbour's house", or nightclothes to reuse the next night, etc

With 5 multiple sets of worn clothes it gets overwhelming fast! Looking for ideas.

I put them away inside out so I know they’ve been worn once.

LifeIsShambolic · 31/03/2026 17:19

I don't re-wear clothes, they never seem fresh enough to me 🤷‍♀️ my husband and kids do and their preferred method of storage seems to be random piles on the floor....they are driving me insane!

So do I.

Someone created a special chair for this for herself and so many people loved the video she made that she’s turned it into a product you can buy.

I came to post this but you beat me to it…
I really want one! 😁

(eta - but for that much money I’ll stick to chucking them on the floor..)

Rainbowdottie · 31/03/2026 18:01

I can’t bear clothes building up. I wear mine for a couple of days then put them in the wash. Sure it means I wear the same jeans and jumper or whatever outfit for a couple of days, but I’m fine with that. I don’t want all sorts just building up on the chair, I just wear it and have done with it!!!

I won’t put them back in the wardrobe, I’ve always been lead to believe that perfume, oils, deodorant etc attracts moths.

EBearhug · 31/03/2026 18:35

I hang them in the spare room, to air. Were I to have visitors, I guess my room would have to do.

Comtesse · 31/03/2026 18:56

The floordrobe!

shelbybears · 31/03/2026 18:59

It’s either in the basket to get cleaned or it goes bk in the wardrobe (well when there isn’t a floor drobe going on) 🙈

Edited

I’ll stick to my pile on top of the cupboard ! That chair would soon become an untidy mess.

In the washing basket to be washed. We don't usually wear clothes more than once, the kids definitely don't, they're always filthy.
If there's something that can be reworn like a cardigan or jumper, it goes back in the wardrobe. I think if it's clean enough to wear its clean enough to be put away.

LittlePinkDinosaur · 31/03/2026 19:47

My DH has a floordrobe pile, 18yo tends to fold on the floor in front of his wardrobe (which i did for both when they were younger) or hang over the end of the bed, nearly 16 DS literally scatters his over his floor 🙈. I try to encourage him to hang his blazer and school trousers on hangers from his wardrobe door (which again i did when they were younger). I hang anything that came out of the wardrobe on its hanger on a hook on the outside of the wardrobe door and jumpers, jeans etc go on top of an empty laundry basket in the corner of my room. The only things that go back in the wardrobe half dirty are special occasion things im not going to wear again for a while.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 31/03/2026 20:04

Back in the wardrobe/drawer they belong in

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/03/2026 20:19

On the chairdrobe. I will often have 2-3 assorted lots of jeggings/tops/jumpers.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 31/03/2026 21:24

On the chair in the bedroom. I wouldn’t put them back in the wardrobe because moths prefer clothes that have been worn especially when they’re stored in the dark. If they’re on the chair, then I know they’ve been worn once so I prioritise wearing them again whereas once they’re back in the wardrobe they could sit there for weeks unused. Then they get that musty smell over time.

Pebbles16 · 31/03/2026 21:38

Jeans go back in the wardrobe. Nighties go under the pillow.
Hoodies or similar go on a hanger outside the wardrobe as I will likely wear the next day.
Anything skin touching will go to the wash or - if only worn briefly on a hanger like the hoodies.
Occasionally, in the cold days of doom, I have a floordrobe at the end of the bed because it is SO cold that I just need to shovel on layers from inside my duvet! (Don't ask about the ongoing heating stinginess in my home).

For many years I put them on a chair and hated it. I now have a bench / box thing at the end of my bed. Can’t remember what it’s called but I think people use them for storing bed linen or something. Anyway my once worn things go in there, along with my big wool cardigans that I don’t wear much or wash unless needed as I’m hopeless at washing and not shrinking wool.

It’s called an ottoman.

Clearinguptheclutter · 31/03/2026 21:40

Chucked on the chair

Easterchicken · 31/03/2026 21:47

If it's worn ...it gets washed. Scruffy not to

Even jumpers and jeans? That's terribly wasteful and also completely unnecessary unless you've spilled something down yourself.

I agree. If it's been worn it goes in the wash, not putting worn clothes back in with clean ones 🫣

wandawaves · 31/03/2026 22:02

I have a hat/coat stand in my room for this exact purpose.

binnibonnieboo · 31/03/2026 22:07

I use a coat stand, from Ikea, works really well. I have a very big bedroom though so plenty of room.

gummywitch · 31/03/2026 22:30

Floordrobe for me. Now the kids have grown up and 4 of the 6 moved out, I've gone back to my teenage years and just dump the 'might wear that again tomorrow' stuff on the bedroom floor, much to DH's horror (tidy freak) After years of nagging teens to pick their clothes up from their rooms, I've gone back to being one myself. It's very freeing and I don't give a shit.

Allseeingallknowing · 31/03/2026 22:36

Using the floor to keep your worn clothes on is slovenly, apart from creepy crawlies who may inhabit them.

50NotFat · 31/03/2026 22:59

I used a chair at the dining table for clothes that have been worn but not for long enough to warrant washing!
