Trying to gather some information on what people regretted most about their weddings (excluding maybe who they married 🤣)

things like, not hiring a videographer, over spending, uncomfortable dress, venue?

what did you regret about your wedding?

Nothing. We pushed off to Italy with just two friends and their kids. It was totally relaxed, happy, no planning necessary, flowers and hair sorted easily by local suppliers and I’ve never felt so much goodwill emanating from
complete strangers. We left on a cruise ship the same evening, still in our wedding clothes, and met friends there who we are still in touch with to this day.

It was exactly what we wanted, and everyone but a couple of DH’s relatives were delighted for us. If we could go back and relive that day again we would do everything exactly the same way. There is not the smallest detail I would change.

Nothing - don’t regret a thing, but perhaps that’s because we didn’t follow the ‘standard’ wedding format that our friends did at the time. Late 90s, v limited budget; registry office; dress from Monsoon; marquee and simple catering in parents’ back garden. No formalities, no ‘first dance’ or line-up; no seating plan; no bridesmaids; no wedding favours (what are these, by the way? Remember a friend of mine being obsessed with them!) Just spending time with friends and close family, spontaneous speeches from my dad and dh, simple
photos (no photographer), nothing rehearsed. Brilliant day, so relaxed.

Not getting to eat. Me and DH picked our favourite canapés, I was trying to go to the loo under several layers of tulle when they were served. Ate my starter, some of my main, and the perfectly picked cheese board? Whisked away untouched while again I was attempting the bathroom. Didn't even know the buffet was out in the evening and it bypassed me entirely. Spent ages picking out favourite foods and didn't get to eat half of it.
Also, wish I had pockets. I had no phone which meant I got no photos whereas DH spent all day taking selfies with people.
I also found no one bought me a drink. I think there was an assumption the bride was covered all night, when really, I just made friends with the barman.

I forgot to put my veil over my face as I walked down the aisle.
and not walking down to Abba’s. I Do I Do I Do. Went down to Pachelbels Canon in D

Assuming and going with just Dad - and not asking BOTH of my parents to walk me down the aisle.

Aside from the groom? Not being explicit enough in what i wanted with the photographers. I loved their reportage style and wanted that, but we ended up with loads of traditional line up ones.

Not hiring a photographer. A friend offered to do it as his wedding present to us, but he wasn’t as good as he thought he was and he never delivered the finished (poor) product.

On the other hand, arranging for chairs and drinks (tea/coffee/water) to be available at all times was an excellent plan. People really appreciated it.

DilemmaDelilah · 08/06/2026 06:39

Not doing it earlier - as in several years earlier. Neither of our mothers were able to attend (one dead, one dying) and they would both have been so happy.

I don't regret anything else at all.

SparklyGlitterballs · 08/06/2026 06:53

Everything, from allowing my DM to be too involved with the planning, doing my own hair and make up, not having strong enough boundaries on the day with overbearing MIL, not doing enough research (pre-internet days) and selecting a shit photographer, to choosing a really unsuitable man to marry. I had really low self esteem when I was a young woman and I wasn't at all assertive. It showed in my wedding planning :-(
