They've dropped the easiest quiz!

Surprised they have done this so quickly. Gary Davies was saying (very insincerely) it was his favourite quiz on the radio just the other day.

The quiz ended up being very irritating - "Oh, please quiz - let me continue, please quiz!" The pleading and begging was so annoying!

Whoever calls the radio 'wireless' these days are usually in their 80s! Wireless is a really old-fashioned term for radio.

You suggest people who listen to the radio are living under a rock. I think you are the one who is so out of touch with the real world. Millions of people listen to the radio every day.

Try listening to the radio - it might make you more aware of what's going on in the outside world!

Someone at the BBC has made some very poor decisions. Losing Steve Wright was catastrophic for radio 2 and I believe for his own health.
Now Liza Tarbuck has gone too. 😫

landlordhell · 31/03/2026 07:59

Oops didnt mean to quote there. I agree though. My daughters in their 20s listen to radio. I do listen more frequently to podcasts now though but thats because of the poor DJs these days.

Unless more comes to light in the coming days, I think this is terrible of the BBC. He’s been investigated and was not charged as it did not meet the evidential threshold set by CPS.

I know someone personally who was falsely accused of abuse, the alleged victim in question has a very long history of making allegations and has severe mental illness. Thankfully the police and CPS NFA’d it. Also thankful that his work was supportive because they too had experienced the behaviour of this individual.

It was devastating at the time and I cannot imagine him losing his job a decade later because of it. It is not for the BBC to be judge, jury and executioner.

Agree with this but how likely is it really that the BBC only discovered now that there was a police investigation 10 years ago into Scott Mills, and it was dropped, and they still decided to immediately sack the household name presenter of their biggest show?

The BBC cannot cover this up. There are too many questions that need answering - why haven't they gone to the police if they have new information?

Fizbosshoes · 31/03/2026 08:01

Vernon to breakfast show, and OJ borg in the morning slot...?

And im sure they choose their own playlists, I liked SM choices of music but DH used to complain he only played Abba, Eurovision and cheesy 80s/90s pop. He much prefers Trevor Nelson who plays more variation, including R and B (although he plays Michael Jackson too frequently imo)

storminabuttercup · 31/03/2026 08:02

I ‘think’ the easiest quiz was a thing Scott and the team came up with, so makes sense it stops, bit like how they brought in ten to the top with vern not popmaster albeit Ken didn’t leave under a cloud

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/03/2026 08:03

I confess I didn't know who he was. I listen to Nicky Campbell on Five Live. If he went that would be a blow.

Ken had ownership of the quiz and he took it with him to Greatest Hits or whatever. Maybe Scott will pop up there?

I bet the Mirror is going to drop an exclusive interview with the guy in the next few days if the case isn't re-opened.

I think it could only be reopened if new evidence came to light. Of course it being out in the public now, may encourage someone else to come forward if it happened to them too. If the police or CPS NFA a case (no further action) then the complainant has 3 months after that point to request a review.

Steve Wright ruined his health with his lifestyle choices. It's hardly the BBC's fault.

StasisMom · 31/03/2026 08:11

But yeah - I predict a Mirror interview!

Hi Miriam 😂💅

Hello dear. And really, what's wrong with marmite?

To those who have pooh poohed ALL my suggestions, whilst bringing nothing themselves to the table but a smug wipe of a napkln at their pursed, dewberry forever lips, stick this 💩in your hat at Christmas, with love from your dreaded aunt M.

dick27 · 31/03/2026 08:15

I've done a full 180 on this now. NOT the same, but I've just found out I've got crimes recorded against me - NFA'd. It's bloody horrific when you know you are innocent. I'm not saying this is the case. But my views on his sacking have changed now. And yes, there are more questions for the BBC now.

Well they have just confirmed it on the Radio 2 Breakfast show 7.30am news bulletin. Historic serious sexual offence allegations

Yep, dating back to 1997-2000. When SM would have been 24-27/28. It’s worth remembering that at that time, the age of consent for males with another male was 18, not 16. That changed in 2000/2001 I believe. So this could relate to a relationship with a young male aged 16-17.

It was apparently reported and investigated in 2018. Dropped for lack of evidence.

But, there must be new developments for this to now lead to his sacking. Otherwise, SM may have grounds for unfair dismissal as the allegations and investigation in themselves would not be a sackable offence (as he was not charged and convicted). So either there is irrefutable evidence that has been presented or he’s admitted it.

They must have new information, further allegations or the person from the 2016 case is coming forward to do some sort of interview.

It’s also possible (probably very slim due to Scott Mill’s profile) that the BBC didn’t know at the time. You are not required to inform your employer of an ongoing investigation and it won’t come up on regular DBS checks.

Whilst they're shaking things up please can they retire Tony Blackburn? He's got be about 120 years old.

Noooo! Tony's great, I think he's only 80 so lots of life left in him to carry on working at Radio 2.

Hihosilver123 · 31/03/2026 08:24

I suspect the BBC got wind that The Mirror were about to publish the story and so they acted fast and sacked him first. It feels unjust to me as it’s a long time ago and he wasn’t prosecuted.

Excellent! I hope he enjoys himself.

Tony is about the only real DJ around these days. I still long for the DJs of old, Emperor Rosco, Stuart Henry, Johnny Walke, Kenny Everett etc. even Noel Edmonds 😱

Music was THE important thing back then not droning on about your family, hobbies or how wonderful you are.

I agree.

Unless there is more to the story.

Mills would have been in his early 20s when the allegations 'happened", and exactly how old was this teenager? They are not saying 'minor', so I'm assuming 17/18.

So, a relationship dating back to the late 90s when Mills was in his early 20s - hes 50-odd now. With no other negative implications. And the case was dropped by police.

On the face of it so far, doesn't seem right that he was sacked. It could have been completely false allegations and Mills has had his career ruined.

Apparently the initial police investigation centred around Radio 1 in the late 1990s - it doesn't seem feasible that the BBC didn't know. It's another reason why the BBC refusing to comment is not acceptable in this circumstance

What else would they be doing with their radio set but listening to it?
What a strange suggestion to give someone.

Saying that, I tend to just have my tuner on in the background whilst I piddle about, and I do find that I sometimes haven't heard a thing they've said for a good 20 minutes, rather like an old companion -or husband if they haven't yet departed. I so wish I could replay it back, but that's technology for you.

He had already been suspended when the Mirror got wind of the story, and probably sacked.

They just hadn't revealed they sacked him until the Mirror asked them for a quote.
