He was in his 20’s. It was such an “issue” as Schofield was covering up that he was gay.

Didn’t Schofield first meet him when he was definitely under age and still at school?

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 30/03/2026 23:47

Wampwhad · 30/03/2026 15:19

The boy was FIFTEEN when Schofield met him and groomed him at his Theatre School. Then inviting him to This Morning and then getting him a job there. Schofield was 48.

I’m so sick of people apologising for paedophilia.

Ab thanks @Wampwhad I thought I’d remembered right, that the boy was underage

Whilst they're shaking things up please can they retire Tony Blackburn? He's got be about 120 years old.

I didn’t know he was still alive! I’ve just checked he’s 83.

Just watching some BBC news coverage and the subtitles had a stumble: "The BBC reaction was very quick" became "The BBC erection was very quick"

Um...🤣

Ha!

Apt 😂

Same. Chris Moyles was noughties misogyny personified.

Indeed can't stand the bloke, I was so happy when I turned on Radio 1 one day and was greated by Nick Grimshaw, who I thought was going to be mega annoying but turned out to be a total sweetheart.

I'm sure whatever has happened with Scott Mills will come out in the wash soon enough. It's so odd that people are complaining that the BBC shouldn't have sacked him because they let other's get away with bad behaviour in the past, surely it's better that they're now taking prompt action if they find an issue.

Sssshhhh 🤫 I’m 54 and still prefer to listen to Radio 1. My kids (30 and 28) reckon I’m much more up to date on chart music than they are 🤣

My mum listens to Radio 1 and she's 63. I haven't listened to it since I was about 16, so she knows all the modern popstars I've never heard of.

Cardinalita90 · 31/03/2026 00:42

If he was questioned but never charged I'm surprised BBC are able to sack him for it now. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. Unless there's a clause in his contract that he had to disclose any arrests etc and maybe didn't. Otherwise surely shaky ground under employment law?

Very happy as I can't stand him

I never really knew who he was, but would from time to time see him pop up in places. Always thought ' who the F is this Scott Mills bloke '. Eventually worked out that he was some kind of big noise on the radio. He always looked too thin to me, which is why it took me a long time to work out that he was a major character on the radio. Strange logic, I know, but true. I think I always think of male radio presenters as kind of gobby blokes with a strong physical presence.

laundryhamper · 31/03/2026 00:56

I wish Steve Wright was still around to see this 😢

Gettingbysomehow · 31/03/2026 01:05

This latest sacking was for messing with an under age teenager apparently.

'Pastor Kidneys'...

I never understood what anyone saw in Terry Wogan. I thought he was a massive bore.

OonaStubbs · 31/03/2026 01:41

Radios 1 and 2 should just play music that way there can be no chance of a "presenter" being exposed as a deviant. People listen for the music anyway.

If it was a criminal complaint he was questioned over, it needs to be beyond all reasonable doubt and a lack of evidence maybe the reason he wasn’t charged. Employment law is the balance of probability (rather than beyond doubt) and therefore will have different tipping points. The case with footballer John Terry is an example of
this.

He's not a horse dear

madeofmore · 31/03/2026 01:57

If they want a really safe pair of hands, they wouldn't be wrong to have a good think about Miriam Margolyes. She's very consistent and has stacks of appeal.

Are you sure ?

Daygloboo · 31/03/2026 01:57

Yes quite sure. Is there anything in particular that makes you lean towards him being a horse?
Maybe I have missed something horse-like about him but a quick google reveals that Tony has expressed a strong admiration for Exmoor ponies, so that's interesting.

Now is the time.

Innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply to employment law. If it did, nobody would ever get sacked without being convicted of a crime.

I'm so sad about this - loved listening to SM in the mornings. Must be something serious, I guess but hoping it's not another grooming / sexual misconduct thing.

My vote for replacement would be Mark and Lard! It'll never happen but I used to love them on Radio 1 back in the day.

Stop… carry on.

I agree. You surely can’t sack a person for being arrested and questioned on a matter the CPS said didn’t pass threshold.

Sesma · 31/03/2026 06:10

The BBC must have known about this for years anyway, why now, it seems to coincide with the new DG coming in.
