Maybe she thinks appropriate footwear is health and safety gone mad.

Fucking hell, how can we trust the leader of the opposition to make sound decisions with good judgement when she can't even dress appropriately for the job in hand.

That's an example of the best the conservatives have!

Normally I frown on pot shots about clothing, but dressing appropriately for the job is a basic requirement surely. And where is her hard hat. Absolute health and safety nightmare. Doesn't she need a CSCS card to work on a worksite with heavy machinery?
Edited again- and a licence to drive that piece of kit?

Edited

Personally, if I were in charge, a H&S officer would be getting a written warning.

She just posted a few minutes ago on her Facebook account. It is definitely not an April Fool.

She has a slightly worrying fetish for large machines. Tanks, tractors, JCBs.

Ah, so she's planning on a nice bung for Bamford. I thought he'd defected to the turquoise lot.

It was a very good speech but I listened live and was to be frank bored. I know we will get the news version but it felt flat, even the bits that should have been lively.

Can anyone more politically minded explain why he told us about the COL getting even worse with Iran and then listed things like the two child rule being listed and acknowledged himself it is not new?

I didn't listen to the speech, but if I had it wouldn't have been for the entertainment value.

BIossomtoes · 01/04/2026 18:54

One wonders how a speech could be very good and boring simultaneously.

I am not quite sure I understand what you are asking?

The lifting of the two child benefit cap is new in that it hasn't come into operation yet. But it is not something that has been newly announced in response to the COL being worsened by the war (and Starmer's speech didn't present it that way), it was announced back in October.

Eta: I am not sure which parts of his speech should have been lively? Maybe he should have done a Badenoch and delivered the speech from a tank or something!

Will be awake for the launch, hopefully, tonight. Thinking back to those grainy images in black and white in July 1969 all of us together watching it. It was a full moon that night and a clear sky as well.

DuncinToffee · 01/04/2026 22:17

We are planning to watch as well.

I wasn't born in '69

I was 8 years old.

cardibach · 01/04/2026 22:40

I was 4 in the October of 69.

BIossomtoes · 01/04/2026 22:42

Will you all stop it? I’m feeling so ancient - I was 16.

Evenstar · 01/04/2026 22:42

I was 4, I can still remember being woken up to see it and my parents telling me I must always remember it because it was history happening.

cardibach · 01/04/2026 22:51

I remember watching subsequent ones but not that one - don’t know if I didn’t watch it or I can’t differentiate it in my memory.

MaybeNotBob · 01/04/2026 22:52

I was 3, we went round to our neighbours house in the cul de sac where they actually had a telly, because we didn't have one!

cardibach · 01/04/2026 22:55

Our tv was from Radio Rentals.

I was 4 in the October of 69.

I was a newborn 😊

Llttledrummergirls · 01/04/2026 23:09

I wasn't born.
I'm not catching the excitement either. Humanity has spent years in space now with the space station, and sent rockets to other planets. The mars rover was brilliant.

I think if they were landing on the moon, then I would be more excited, but they are essentially going on an expensive joyride. I would assume they have some scientific experiments happening and would love to hear more about those. I think that all those involved (genuinely, not Trump taking the credit) should be very proud of their achievements when this succeeds.

Maybe I'm just being a misery guts though.

I also lied. I was 4 until the October of 69. I do ‘now when I was born, promise.

Notonthestairs · 01/04/2026 23:51

Wasn’t born in 1969. Watched the lift off tonight and found it extraordinary. What bravery.

The orbit is around the South pole of the moon and of course the dark side of the moon, which is very exciting. From earth we don't see the dark side of the moon.

cardibach · 01/04/2026 23:54

Well that was quite something. Glad they got off ok after the last minute technical hitches.

placemats · 01/04/2026 23:57

The mph is phenomenal.

Years ago I did 100 mph on the M6 toll road.

MsJinks · 02/04/2026 06:33

I was 3 the first time around - I recall watching launches but not that one specifically- they all merge a bit but they were all big events and very exciting.

It did always fill me with such excitement then and still does now - imagine shooting off at speed to the vast, vast space of the universe. I have discussions with my grandson about whether it’s better to go to space or as far down in the sea as possible - I stick with space each time.

In reality I’d probably be too scared nowadays to do this, like many things (ignoring the fact I have no skills to even get there ha) - I can dream as it’s not a potential reality but sometimes I do wish for the immortality of youth quite a lot.
