I’ve had a Senedd leaflet from the Greens. It’s a bit sneaky and I continue to be unimpressed with them as a result. The outside is black and white with the tiniest logo and a disclaimer in small print that’s on behalf of the Greens and purports to be abput the way the Senedd vote is changing. It’s Green inside and refers to several polls saying voting Green ‘could’ keep Reform out of the constituency. No mention of how to see the polls or who they are by, just a swing diagram which only shows Labour and Green and doesn’t give a figure as to what percentages the swing leaves for each party. I don’t trust it. They pulled something similar in Gordon and Denton and drove opinion - but as a FPTP race it was less complicated.
Any Welsh people on here who have found actual polls constituency by constituency? Because I’ve tried and I can’t - which makes me even more suspicious of the leaflet. Are they passing of national polls (which I have found) as constituency based? Because even the swing they crow about would be wrong if so…

Edited

They are only aping the Tories - who last election had no party logos on their leaflets.

Fun fact - in the 1945 General Election, the name "Conservative Party" did not appear on the Conservative party manifesto.

cardibach · 31/03/2026 16:38

‘Aping t(e Tories’ isn’t really what I look for in a Party I’d be prepared to vote for to keep Reform out. Trouble is, I don’t know whether their info is reliable so I’m none the wiser.

For me it would all depend on the local situation.

I'd rather have a weird few years under a novice Green administration (likely in coalition) than risk a few weeks under a majority Reform gang.

Yes, it's one of the worst games of "if ya really had ta".

In other news, I was spring cleaning and look what I found ...

Vote for who you want to represent you. I understand the anything but reform vote and this leaflet certainly takes advantage of that. It's cynical tactics. Just as bad as Reform.

PandoraSocks · 31/03/2026 18:05

Given we have PR I think it is safe to do as Placemats says @cardibach . But I must admit I feel a bit jumpy about it. I have just remembered I saw some predictions broken down by constituency. I will see if I can remember where!

placemats · 31/03/2026 18:05

I agree to a certain extent that having Reform and Green in charge is a measure of how they actually get things done. They'll have two years to change things of course. Just like this Parliament.

BestIsWest · 31/03/2026 18:11

All I can find is guesswork and projection based on the overall polls @cardibach. No doubt there will be plenty of polls soon. I’m still on the fence between Labour and Plaid. It’s estimated Labour will get one seat in my constituency but I really like the no 2 on the list who is the leader of our local Labour council and I’d like to see him in the Senedd though he’d be a loss to the council.

In other news, despite the cries of NHS Wales being in dire straits, we’ve had amazing service this weekend after my DM developed cellulitis. A call to 111 resulted in a visit to the OOH GP within 90 minutes and follow up from the district nurses who were fab. Social services and the care agency also came up trumps, putting in place extra visits to administer antibiotics. I can’t fault any of them.

PandoraSocks · 31/03/2026 18:12

@cardibach here you go. If you scroll right down there is a map which breaks down the polling. I can't believe I forgot about it!

And for your Welsh voters

Owain Clatworthy has resigned as a Senedd candidate and Reform UK councillor.

Was just reading that. Another candidate unhappy that Reform is selecting non-local candidates.

I have only just realised who McIntyre is. He's one of Galloway's lot. I see McIntyre suggested the attack in Golder's Green was a false flag. Nice man to do an interview with.Not.

Even with PR it’s not that simple. We need not-Reform to get enough seats in enough constituencies. My preferred vote here is Plaid

It’s not that simple. It’s not PR by percentage of the whole country it’s by constituency so we need enough not-Reform votes everywhere.

Thanks. I’ll have a look. This is the offending ‘data’ in my Green leaflet. ‘12 polls’ not referenced or quoted and a doorstep survey. It’s really poor. May write to them about it.
Edit: and in the second half it has a dig at Starmer. Talks of ‘sending a message’. Umm. It’s my country’s Parliament we are electing. It’s nothing to do with Starmer and shouldn’t be used to ‘send a message’ as though it’s unimportant.

That's tricky. You have 5 weeks to decide and I hope you get the answer. Keep posting.

Don't give in.

That's just poor and very immature.

So looking at the map for our areas, Reform will come second and have no hope of beating Plaid. In our areas it could be possible to get a non-Reform party into second place (being non-specific for privacy). But if we start voting tactically to keep Reform from coming second, could that actually work in Reform's favour?

Aargh!

I have just had something similar delivered with same sort of statements.

Wales sending a message to Starmer is Farage-speak.

placemats · 31/03/2026 19:32

The Green Party will use Forage tactics.

It’s so difficult. I guess more votes for Plaid would mean they could get more of the seats, thus blocking Reform from getting more than one or two?

This has taken quite a turn. 🤣😳. The truth is I’m going slightly doolally watching lamb cam. Sleep deprived. Only 2 ewes left. ZP gives me the boak though. I hope neither him nor Farage get anywhere near power. Hell I’d rather have Keir.

I fully agree re Farage - so I see where you’re coming from really on getting ‘the ick’ with this.

I’m on the fence with Polanski - I liked the Greens being a force for the ‘green’ agenda and ideologically a lot of their original policies (if not sure how they’d work in practice). I preferred Caroline, but Polanski has motivated the young ones into politics, which is good, and built support which is his job I guess - but not really sure on my view of him yet - not an ick for me, but a ‘not sure’ for sure!

I didn’t go to see him specifically, I didn’t know he was going to be there till way after I was postering for the event - though I suppose I could have guessed- I think it’s right he was though as many Green supporters turned out.

I will always March against the far right - I am incensed and worried by their rise - I will March with others against them, but not necessarily be involved, or even maybe agree, with all groups. I do strongly believe in the ‘together’ campaign and think there should be much more working together instead of squabbling about the ‘politics’ of it but I am with SUTR and Women against the far right groups really - though even there I don’t agree with specifics of everything, but pretty passionate for the broad agenda of both.

Long winded - apologies! Only had sleep deprivation with children - but I can feel that pain still - hope the rest of the lambing goes well and you can catch up with sleep soon.

Starmer announces that the UK is pursuing closer EU relations:

“Brexit did deep damage to our economy. And the opportunities to strengthen our security and cut the cost of living are simply too big to ignore. We want to be more ambitious. Closer economic cooperation. Closer security cooperation.”
