Denby pottery under threat, have you bought some to support them?

My mum had Denby and it was indestructible. But now I hear they are under threat and have put out an SOS.
https://www.denbypottery.com/pages/save-denby?_gl=113xe0u1upMQ..gs*MQ..&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhobLsPGykwMVbpBQBh2sNhibEAAYASABEgJiavD_BwE&gbraid=0AAAAAD88OOOIrq_FVCUS-mNNXnw6tUk
had assumed they would be around for ever but have now treated myself to a set that I was planning to get way in the future after I had the kitchen redone.

Husband just been told he's got 4 weeks left then thats the end of Denby Pottery.

I’m so sorry, it’s very unfair. I wish you both all the best for the future.

He & his colleagues are right to feel completely let down by the government.

Condolences to your husband from someone also made redundant yesterday after 34 years - different sector entirely and completely coincidental but likewise with the same employer all that time. All best wishes to you both.

We see that M&S and John Lewis seem to have rallied round and appear to have got in new stocks of Denby this week - our local JL had been looking a bit depleted (evidence that customers have also been rallying round).

From the new stock at JL I bought a beautiful Grain Accent plate for display last night and another lady was collecting up the very cool Grain set. Their recent collections have been much more modern and yet timeless, so I do encourage people to have a look in JL/Marks/Denby website/Denby outlets.

I am proud to have my Mum’s 1960s Denby and I hope I’ve helped a little buying up what I could.

Thanks for all your kind words. Sorry to hear you are in the same position. Its more the emotional side for him leaving all the good friends he has made. I wish you all the best too.
We were actually given a set of Grain to trial .
I thought it was amazing. Fit in the drainer and washing up bowl unlike some of the other designs. Just a little too late unfortunately.

@user1471502540 I am so sorry too. I feel so sad that we are losing another heritage craft and manufacturing business in this country. It’s a real loss.

metalcat · 23/04/2026 13:28

@user1471502540 Good luck for you both for the future.

It's such a shame, we are losing our manufacturing and our skills, how do we preserve the knowledge for the future? There won't be anyone who knows how to make anything anymore.

We re-tiled last year and the styles we picked were the last batches of the British made ones from the last large scale tile manufacturer in the UK before they moved all production abroad. They were beautifully made in comparison to the newer ones.

fussychica · 23/04/2026 17:13

My 6 white James Martin for Denby large side plates took forever to arrive. However, they were keeping us posted on delays due to so many people purchasing to support the company.

I agree but sadly people need to buy from companies and pay more. This will enable companies to survive 😊

I think Denby will be like the old Land Rovers, it will never disappear simply becuase it's timeless and made to last, 100 years from now people will still be using it and saying "did you know this was all made in Derbyshire". The fact you can still buy whole sets from 50+ years ago just when retro and mid century homeware is back in style, is a testament to the quality and how much people care for it.

I'm so sorry for all the staff

I didn't get round to buying any - it's been manic here

So I understand things are on delay

Is it still okay to order do you think? Or will my money disappear into a black hole of creditors?

maybe my goddaughter will want it!

InconsequentialFerret · 24/04/2026 11:51

My order's been packed and will soon be on its way.

I feel so sad for everyone, another end of an era moment. 😥

Edited

Their website says that they are still taking and fulfilling orders. Payment won’t be taken until the point of dispatch. Lead time is 10-15 days.

I’ve just received an order but thinking of making up numbers from 4 place setting to 6.

EmeraldRoulette · Yesterday 10:58

@purplepie1 thanks

Yes I just wondered if it was wise, but I'm going have a look at that when I get home

My crockeryis in the right state! I know people mentioned that Denby is quite heavy. I hope that works in my tiny little cupboard.
And with my mug tree

I'm on a budget, so maybe just the mugs.

That’s like my crockery. Most doesn’t match or is chipped. If you have Tesco club card vouchers you can convert them into Denby vouchers. It definitely helped me with the cost.

They are still working at a small capacity for about 4 more weeks. Just finishing what clay and glazes they have left. Not making any more clay. If anyone is looking for thinner pots look at the new grain design . Shame they are finished cos this is lovely.

suburburban · Yesterday 13:40

so sad and awful for all the people who work there.

InconsequentialFerret · Yesterday 14:04

I've just made another purchase of a couple of things to bring my Imperial Blue set to the same number of everything.

I'll have to take really good care of it!

The name may come back but the quality won't be anything like the same.

Snowwhitesnow · Yesterday 14:16

I ordered then got a refund, but received a email to say they will take payment when dispatched!
I really hoped a solution would be found! People prefer to buy from China. Energy is so expensive!
Maybe something like how Cornishware has came back?

I put through my fourth order in the week. I had never owned any Denby and was only faintly aware of it before this post was created. My first order was placed before the administrators were called in as a response to the campaign and was for two pet bowls and some Kiln pastel rice bowls. I was so impressed by the quality and design that I then ordered dinner plates, side plates and mugs in various colours from the Heritage. These arrived in the week and I am so impressed with them.
I expect to use these for the next 30 years and doubt will ever tire of them

I am so sorry for your husband and his colleagues. It’s an absolute travesty that a high quality, heritage manufacturer should not be helped through this period. Cold comfort I’m sure but what they made and contributed to making will be enjoyed in homes around the world for decades to come.

Yes like most brands nowadays

user1467306011 · Yesterday 18:28

I really wanted a set until we went to the Denby shop and I realized how heavy it was. Not good for my arthritic, getting older hands so had to change my mind.

user1471502540 · Yesterday 18:34

Look at Grain. It really is the best Denby we have had. It is light, fits in the washing up bowl and cupboards. I think if they had done this design sooner it would have been a best seller. Just too late. My hubby was asked to review it before it went on sale and we cant praise it enough.
