Denby pottery under threat, have you bought some to support them?

My mum had Denby and it was indestructible. But now I hear they are under threat and have put out an SOS.

had assumed they would be around for ever but have now treated myself to a set that I was planning to get way in the future after I had the kitchen redone.

We’re lucky enough to live in Denby so plan on a visit in the next week, the seconds shop is pretty good and has well priced seconds

I ordered early last Saturday via Tesco and received an email yesterday to say it’s been dispatched.

Thanks, typically we’re going away for Easter so it’s a bit inconvenient if doesn’t arrive soon

CandidHedgehog · 28/03/2026 21:10

I ordered last weekend and got a couple of emails saying they were busy and would ship asap.

The second email actually came roughly an hour before the ‘it’s shipped’ email and I got the delivery Thursday so slower than previously but not too bad.

I’m not hopeful about their long term prospects. This flurry of purchases will give them a short term boost but it’s not like they can expect the same volume of sales every month. I spent around £150 to top up my sets and replace one chipped plate. I don’t need any more and I couldn’t afford that much every month if I did!

My order arrived today - ordered on the 22nd. I am so happy with it, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’ve never owned any Denby before and really hope they make it through this.

Batteriesoptional · 31/03/2026 20:47

Just been back onto their website. Sadly they have gone into administration.

Hallamule · 31/03/2026 21:09

Where does it say that @Batteriesoptional ? I've just been on there and can't see anything.

Batteriesoptional · 31/03/2026 21:19

It’s on the Save Denby page

suburburban · 31/03/2026 21:45

Yes mine arrived as well, very pleased

A meeting was held today to inform everyone about the administration. A couple of hours later many people lost their jobs. Went to work as normal this morning and no job tomorrow. Very sad day for everyone involved.

cmonspring · 31/03/2026 23:27

I’d got a £100 voucher to spend there….guess that won’t be happening now then. Feel more sad about the loss of jobs though, I live in Denby and everyone knows someone who works there ☹️

Boopybop · 01/04/2026 06:45

Have bought a when new dinner set when I heard the news. I now have enough Denby crockery to last me until I die!

Are you not allowed to use vouchers now?

I would go quickly.

user1471502540 · 01/04/2026 08:00

Go now. They are still open. Most of factory running as normal just no idea how long for. Husband went to work today and said see you later but it could be early if its his turn to loose his job today 😪

cmonspring · 01/04/2026 08:36

Once they go in to administration you can no longer use their gift vouchers

Oh I’m sorry xx 😘 I bought several items directly from their website and wanted to get x 2 dinner sets ( coupe sets ) but they were out of stock.
So had to get the remainder of my wish list from John Lewis and a nearby independent retailer.
it is absolutely lovely pottery

purplepie1 · 01/04/2026 09:12

I placed an order last week. Fingers crossed it arrives.

Good luck to all the staff - redundancy is awful but hopefully a buyer will be found and their jobs are saved.

Screamingabdabz · 01/04/2026 09:20

It’s sad, and I would definitely be a customer as I love buying tableware but the designs are terrible. I’ve looked numerous times to buy with clubcard vouchers and found nothing I like. It’s too clunky and indistinct to be fine China, and it’s too old fashioned and plain to be nice studio pottery.

It’s a bit like my elderly mother’s G Plan furniture - nice quality, but I wouldn’t want it in my house.

If you look at what Zara home, H&M, Next, Cath Kidson, Emma Bridgwater and Anthropologie sell, they’re much more geared to modern aesthetics. And that’s what Denby should’ve been doing. Keeping up with kitchen and interior trends and producing stuff that people aspire to having.

I'm so sorry for your husband, his colleagues and everyone in the local area. It's such a shame, it's beautiful pottery. I have a mug and it's beautiful and have bought some more. We should treasure British manufacturing as we haven't got much left.

I am so sorry for you, your family and all those impacted by the administration process. As others have said, hopefully a new investor with a long term plan and vision can be found. What a number of people on this thread seem to be oblivious to are the broader ramifications for the wider economy of closures like these, its not just the local economy of shops and trades that take a hit.

Lol to each their own but I just looked at the Zara home crockery and it reminds me of the sets my grandmother had in 1930

suburburban · 01/04/2026 19:39

The white Denby China is great and classic, I have a table set from circa 2010 that still looks good with dip bowls and a tray has been used many a time, may have been a James Martin design plus my new pasta bowls in plain are lovely

Oh well I guess its fashions going round in circles. I bet they look modern to young people whos parents and grandparents have very plain tableware
