Problems just never stop for the poor turd:

If the Democrats do not allow for Just and Proper Security at our Airports, and elsewhere throughout our Country, ICE will do the job far better than ever done before!” the president wrote on Truth Social. “I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday, and have already told them to, ‘GET READY.’ NO MORE WAITING, NO MORE GAMES!”

Thing is, last time I looked it was the Repugs in charge.

Trump threatens to deploy ICE agents to airports Monday if funding deal isn’t reached | CNN Politics

Argh! My dd and her family are visiting family in the US for a couple of weeks on Thursday and I haven't said a thing and I know they'll probably be fine but the timing of all the fuel shortages combined with things like this (and the fact that dd is pregnant) is making me distinctly twitchy. 😬

logicisall · 22/03/2026 11:32

Had a chat with one of my VZ contacts who had had to return home two weeks ago for family reasons. Said not wanting to go down the conspiracy theory, but they now think US/Maduro extraction was because Trump needed VZ oil because of the plan to attack Iran. Democracy is as far away as ever, and while more food is available, it costs the same as in the UK. But on local salaries, many can't afford much.

Felt that at least they are better off than Cuba, which is an island. They can cross borders into neighbouring countries to access cheaper food and medicines.

Contrary to what is being posted by the OP on the other thread, the world is not in a better place because of the almighty truth sayer, Trump. 😥

Truth Slayer Trump ? That's gone into my flash memory :-)

Any word from VZ if they think it was an inside job ? That Maduro was given to him ?

RedTagAlan · 22/03/2026 11:49

There is shocking stuff going on in Lebanon, and it is getting worse. Has anyone seen if the bloated orange worm infested turd has mentioned that ?

Ohh... I was eating a cracker there, and I just put myself off it.

This was not discussed but I have no doubt that it was most likely an inside job. The scale of corruption is so bad that my contact said that drug money is being deposited into banks but when the account owners are captured/killed etc the banks just keep all the money themselves. No doubt with a tidy backhander to the local police/politician so no questions are asked.

There's a true joke going around in Trinidad that when you want to comit a crime, any policeman would rent you their gun. This level of corruption goes all the way to the top in Latin American countries, and when it doesn't, it's because the opportunities haven't materialised yet.

In Colombia, I was told that a wealthy person could hire a poor person to do their jail time. In China, no jail term will even be imposed (probably)!

TheABC · 22/03/2026 12:13

Thanks to the good weather, our solar panels have been going gang busters on electricity. Every time I look at the report and see the stats climbing I can say 'fuck you, trump.'
At least Labour is treating energy security as a priority, but they are up against backlog of really bad decisions by past governments, starting with mass privatisation and the sell off of gas storage. Here's hoping that the small modular nuclear reactors take off but we will still be suffering through the Iran crisis in the meantime.

It will be ironic if Trump/Iran ends up accelerating green energy in the same way Putin expanded NATO.

In other news, whilst everyone is watching the Middle East, Ukraine is scoring new daily heights of Russian fatalities whilst their drones are knocking out facilities deep inside Russia. This matters because Russian soldiers are now dying or being injured at a greater rate than the state can replace them. Up until now, Putin has always leaned on his demographic advantage - that he can throw more bodies into the war than Ukraine. Now that drones are leading the kill zone instead of soldiers, the equation has changed. Ukraine doesn't need another million men on the front line. But they can damn well manufacture a million drones.

Trump talking about Kharg Island in the late 80s

Here is why he was talking about it at the time - it was headline news.

An excellent write up from CNN linked. Together with a bit of interest re US mine sweepers. I can't remember any of this, likely because I was doing other things. I usually switched channels when the news come on the telly.

The Tanker War: How history is repeating itself on the Strait of Hormuz | CNN

The Tanker War: How history is repeating itself on the Strait of Hormuz | CNN

As President Donald Trump looks at ordering US Navy ships to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, for naval analysts and historians, there’s a distinct feeling of “been there, done that.”

I see there is a new " other thread", with the usual suspects. Good guy v bad guys. All black and white. If you are not totally in their camp, then you are with the baddies.

I really do see MAGA and FLAT EARTHERS as being near identical these days. They use the same debate techniques, whataboutisms, deflections , odd data and websites... and near every fallacy in the book. We know the score.

And new threads all the time.

I am not really on any side here. I am anti Trump yes. But in general terms, I wish for people to get on.

The biggie with Trumpsters and flat earthers I find though , is that if one engages with them in good faith discussions, they eventually just bail and start a new thread, and start repeating all the same bull crap all over again. So they just end up in a MAGA echo chamber, cos many folk just say "oh not again ".

Sorry to ramble. Just to say if anyone wants a link to the new "other" just say and I will post.

logicisall · 22/03/2026 13:09

LOL @RedTagAlan For my own sanity I've made my last post on the other thread and not going there again. <sits on hands>

PerkingFaintly · 22/03/2026 13:15

Your description is spot on. Especially about the bailing and starting a new thread when cogent points against their argument start appearing on thread.

They don't want their audience reading those.

But they do want to spread their message. So new thread; and another new thread; and another new thread. All repeating material already patiently debunked.

I first noticed this technique on MN during the Brexit campaigns. It became obvious some posters were not here to discuss and learn from each other; merely to broadcast.

Yup. It's as if they never "twig" that people see what they are up to.

Ohh, I forgot the other thing they have in common with flerths : they accuse folk of being "paid activists" or of "having an agenda".

Exactly the same as Trump and his minions do.

This is another reason I reckon Trump is a flat earther. I mean, just think about it, do some research. Have ever heard of Trump refer to the world as round ? No ? There you go. I rest my case. Prove me wrong.

:-)

Handbaghs · 22/03/2026 13:27

What is the "other thread?"

Echobelly · 22/03/2026 13:35

Hilarious how Trump warns he'll remember NATO 'didn't help' - after he and his pals have been going on about how all other countries are pathetic and crap and nothing without America and America wasn't going to help anyone else now.

And you can absolutely guarantee that even if NATO had intervened, then if NATO needed help later, Trumps words would almost exactly be 'NATO's help was no good, we did all the work, they were no good so we don't need to help them'. He'd treat NATO like an NYC building contractor who he's refusing to pay for the work they did for him - not paying people what they are owed is 100% how Trump operates and everyone knows this.

andIsaid · 22/03/2026 13:35

I have noticed that in almost every interview Trump says "I can do what I want really."

He is not wrong.

When he first came in, he took on some legal firms and made them bend the knee. That way he had shored up his costs - 100s, of millions of dollars.

He has the Supreme Court - while not actively working for him they are an activist court.

He can pardon himself.

His party is afraid of him or morally bankrupt.

The Democrats have show real weakness in terms of leadership against him and proposing new, strong candidates.

He literally can do what he wants.

Dreadful times.

Bad things going on in the West Bank too.

Can’t honestly say that I think the world is in a safer position now than it was 3 weeks ago despite the war being ‘won’ and Iran’s capabilities having been destroyed several times over. I can’t see it getting safer in the near future either unless Bibi and Trump back down and I don’t see that happening.

Well, it's happening.

Homan was just on CNN and confirmed.

Basically as of about 9 am EDT per Homan there is no plan, they're 'working on it and it will be effectuated tomorrow'. Refused to confirm or deny whether ICE will or will not be doing TSA screening but did say they have no training in doing it. Refused to say exactly what they would be doing, just that 'ICE agents have been in airports for some time'. Refused to say which airports they are being sent to. In other words, they're going to be winging it and it's going to be a clusterfuck.

My DS1 flies frequently for work. Often multiple flights to different destinations in one day. Chances are this is going to be hellacious for him.

It's just "the other thread". Nominally but not specifically the opposite of " this thread".

In this case, pro trump. Or certainly a very strong pro Trump undercurrent.

Again - why would anyone come to the World Cup in the USA?

ICEs raison d'etre is to scare off non Americans for good.

Not quite sure putting them in charge of tourist immigration is such a great idea.

Imagine being greeted by a slightly less bright version of Tommy Robinson when you arrived at Heathrow. Especially if your suntan hasn't faded.
