What makes people go into the settings to specifically disable this feature?

I have it disabled, i don’t always want to reply straight away so it stops people grumbling that Ive read their message & not replied.

No one grumbles at me, I don’t have the ticks disabled

Really? Mine aren’t disabled

My friend does to wind up her ex

KittyStanton · 20/03/2026 12:18

My brother has it disabled. It means you can’t see blue ticks for other people either, which he finds helpful so can’t stress about whether someone has read his message & is ignoring him etc.

feathermucker · 20/03/2026 12:18

Because I don’t always want someone knowing I read their message! Some people expect immediate responses

Itsafactitsactual · 20/03/2026 12:19

people who don't want it to be visible when they've read a message.

Is that a problem? Genuine question.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/03/2026 12:19

Ive had all of those settings disabled for close to a decade 😄

I judge anyone who still has them on tbh

This is a good reason

Thank you - I was just about to ask if it meant they couldn't see other people's blue ticks!

Dreamcatcherat50 · 20/03/2026 12:20

I think they're very special and mysterious.

Why?

I’d say people that have them on are more chilled and don’t care about silent pressure to reply asap / care if other people reply asap

It makes me think the person overthinks this stuff way too much and is anxious about it

summitfever · 20/03/2026 12:21

My ex didn’t know when to mind his own fucking business and hounded me when I didn’t reply straight away so I disabled mine. It’s actually fine by me that people don’t expect me to work to their schedule. I’ll work to mine

mullers1977 · 20/03/2026 12:22

fnb · 20/03/2026 12:20

This is a good reason

The best one, he is and was an utter control freak and can’t cope that he doesn’t know if she’s ignoring him or not

I have them disabled because I get busy and will read a message start replying and then be needed and wont finsh the message till later. People gurn if they know I have read it and not replied

Shmee1988 · 20/03/2026 12:22

My read receipts, last seen AND online status are all disabled. I dont always want to reply straight away. People often disable their blue ticks but leave 'last seen' on, thats a rookie move

I would think they didn’t want people to see when they’d read their messages all the time, probably because there’s someone who hassles them about replying. Or just for basic privacy. I would think it’s totally fine and reasonable and entirely up to them.

Having blue ticks disabled doesn’t mean people don’t tbh k you’ve read and ignored though

It’s a good reason to play toxic games? Sounds pathetic and immature to me.

I don’t have mine disabled but if someone does I’d imagine it’s because they don’t want the pressure of having to immediately reply?
Or maybe they have anxiety about other people not replying straight away.

Not toxic to gain a little power back from a controlling, possibly abusive, person

Mine are off because, like @KittyStanton brother, I spiral if someone hasn't read my message. This way I've become a lot less arsed because I genuinely can't see so it doesn't matter at all. Has helped more than I thought it would in becoming less anxious over these things
