I just caught the trailer for this on youtube, it looks wonderful! They've clearly spent millions.

I'm in Australia, it's out in cinemas 26 March, 27th in the UK.

But damn, I live in a small town and our local cinema is closed for renovations for months, I won't get to see it (sobs).

God I adore those books. Please if anyone sees the movie please come and give a review, please pretty please X

I’ll be happy as long as the dastardly Dame Slap isn’t renamed to Dame Snap, like she is in the modern wordings.

Oh no. They have renamed Dame Slap Dame Snap. Why? A slapping dame is more villainous than a snapping dame.

Because slapping kids isn't really trendy these days!

I had no idea about the film though, I'm off to Google 😀.

I’m sad that moon face doesn’t look like a moon. Excited about the rest of it though

But Dame Slap was a bad guy and her slapping was part of her villain arc. Why water that down? The slapping was never approved in the original books- it was to show how mean she was.

trumpisruin · 18/03/2026 23:55

It looks great, but for me it doesn't evoke the books that I read as a child.

7238SM · 18/03/2026 23:56

I read this over and over as a child. 40yrs on, I'm not sure I'll remember all the characters, but I loved it at the time.

I recall asking the school librarian if they had any other books from Grid Blyton (as a 9yr old, her signature looked like Grid to me) and she said no, never heard of that author! 🙄

I agree, I loved the originals but sadly they had been altered by the time I was buying them for DS.

Fanny has vanished too and been replaced with Frannie if my memory is correct (DS in his 30s so been a while.

Dick is now Rick

MaRhodes · 19/03/2026 06:34

The trailer's cringe jokes about wifi have me worried but the fantasy worlds look good and it's directed by by the guy who did Wonka.

mum2jakie · 19/03/2026 07:31

Read this to my now adult kids and one of them is happy to watch with me!

Shutuptrevor · 19/03/2026 07:35

I loved these books as a kid and still mentally reference them often- last night I felt sleepy when downstairs but by the time I’d shut up the house and gone to bed I’d woken up again, and I always think to myself “Ah rats, I’ll have to wait until the Land of Sleep comes round again” 😂

I don’t know if I want to see the movie, I loved those books so much. I need others to go see it for me. But I REALLY wish they’d made this film 30 odd years ago!

scrivette · 19/03/2026 07:39

I want to go and see it - I think it the fact it has been modernised rather than changed may help me not to compare it to ‘my’ versions as much.
I am also disappointed with the look of Moon Face though.
I loved Wonka so hope this is good.

BendingSpoons · 19/03/2026 07:42

I really want to see this (and I'm not generally a cinema fan) but DC aren't fussed. Maybe I'll find a friend or just go alone.

That's what I thought.

Thanks to this thread OP, I have just bought one of the original books (with Dick and Fanny) on eBay🤣

FancyCatSlave · 19/03/2026 21:09

I adored it as a child and my DD (6) does too. It’s my birthday the weekend it is released so DD and I are going to see it. Can’t wait! Highlight of the year for sure ☺️

Haha I remember finding the newer editions as a child and they were changed to Rick and Franny or something like that 🤣

Nanda66 · 19/03/2026 21:11

My favourite books as a child. I still think about them. Slightly worried at hearing that Moonface doesn’t look like a moon. In my head he has a big round face like a Moon a clue in his name!

TheGriffle · 19/03/2026 21:16

My favourite books as a child. I’ve booked for me and both DD’s to go and watch it in the Easter holidays. I was gutted that Moonface isn’t a moon and Saucepan man looks younger than he should be but it still looks good.

Dd2 has them on every night on her Yoto to fall asleep to as they’re her favourite as well.

Chiefangel · 19/03/2026 21:18

I’m worried that the characters won’t leave up to my then 8 year old self’s imagination. And will the anxiety of getting back when the lands change still be there?
Looking forwards to the film though.

TheUniversalsHere · 19/03/2026 21:18

Screenplay written by Simon Farnaby who also wrote (and appeared in) the Paddington films, and was the rival detectorist in The Detectorists. Have a slight nerdy crush...

Yes that’s my gripe too but I’m not going to let it spoil it for me.
I’m just so pleased DD is loving the same things as me for once!
