It ain't nothing but a heart-breaker
(War) Friend only to The Undertaker
(Edwin Starr 1970, written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong)

Unless, of course, your name ends in Trump, when it ain't nothing but an opportunity to grift, deflect and destroy.

Happy St Patrick's Day to you too! And to all hailing from the Emerald Isle.

Sky: What the President of the US says, unedited word for word.

"In another moment of conscious thought, he revealed that he'd only recently been told about the geographical power structure in Lebanon - something that's vital to understand given the Israeli military operations the US is supporting there right now. In the same sentence, he also expressed surprise that people lived even in Ukraine or Lebanon.

This is the verbatim transcript of that moment: "...substantial person, wealthy person, whose parents live in Lebanon. I said: 'Really, how do you live in Lebanon? Your parents? Oh, yeah, they live there. And over the years, they've gotten used to the fact that it's being bombed.'

"But they explained to me that it's really a different section of Lebanon. It's the section where Hezbollah is, and they get used to it, I guess... I mean people live in Ukraine.

"You would think they wouldn't live in Ukraine, but they live in Ukraine. I don't know that I'd do that, but they live in Ukraine. They live in Lebanon.""

Yup. The same person who has a key policy of banning certain nationalities from the US, a man who continually goes on about immigration, sending people home, the great replacement, that man..... appears to think people in war zones can just up sticks and leave ?

Where’s that bloody laugh react?

I believe the correct response in 2926 is

"No, it's got nothing to do with witches"

Giving away my Radio 4 subscription there 😀

Also what the President of the United States says, this time about Iran attacking shipping in the Strait of Hormuz:

"It's a little unfair," he said. "You win a war, but they have no right to be doing what they're doing."

US President Donald Trump receives a model of a B‑2 bomber commemorating "Operation Midnight Hammer" during an event on Monday

Trump's confidence is undimmed - but all Iran options comes with risk

The odds of a quick resolution to the war appear to be dwindling by the day, and the political stakes for the president are only growing.

In a writers room

"It's a little unfair," the president began. His voice was weary and more sad than angry.

"It's not the way" he continued, warming to his theme. "I mean, you win an election fair and square. I won an election. I won the best election."

His brow furrowed, as only one crushed by the injustice of imbeciles could form into contours of confusion.

"I mean you win an election - Donald Trump is the best candidate. The winner. Then when you go to win they start talking about numbers of votes. I mean what have votes got to do with elections ?"

His advisors had been tensing as the tirade had developed. Maybe they hadn't realised it themselves. But as the presidents large frame made a show of settling back into his chair there was visible relief that the urge to golf had - for once - defeated the urge to guff.

"Still, that's how we used to do elections". He concluded. "We used to count votes. We don't need to do that anymore. Everyone can see who the winners are".

TiredCatLady · 17/03/2026 10:04

Ah the bomber toy - he was cuddling it like a toddler in between deranged rants.

Oi, @SerendipityJane !

It's dangerous to post satire or fiction without saying that's what it is!

How are we supposed to recognise the difference any more...?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 17/03/2026 10:26

@SerendipityJane - I missed the first line of your post from the writers' room and wondered what your source was. As @PerkingFaintly says, the line between satire and fact is so thinly drawn as to be almost non existent, certainly not even Sharpie size.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 17/03/2026 10:54

This is stunning. As in, stunningly awful.

The Times today has an article which quotes Trump complaining about the UK and Starmer. Every negative utterance printed and a claim that Starmer offered an aircraft carrier.

Tucked away is a line that the Times has been told Starmer made no such offer. In the early iteration of the article it was the last line of the article.

So to my mind the story is not Trump complains, it is that Trump lies.

Apparently that's not news. Or the right kind of news.
Or just doesn't fit with the newspapers preferred slant.

"This story isn't true. But what it tell us about ...." was a line originally developed as satire that has become an accepted way of reporting.

"The president slowly stood up. His large frame shadowed by the light through the oval office windows. Drilled by the endless repetition his closest aides silently - in turn - fell to their knees as the presidential penis emerged ready for it's daily worship. One by one the aides redeclared their fealty in the only way the president would accept ...."

Now, that story isn't true. But what it tells us about American politics is that it's a decidedly toxic brew of narcissism, subordination, and bad writing.

There will be another No Kings day of protest in the US on March 28th. It will be interesting to see how many take to the streets this time.

Here in the U.K. we know protests are mostly ineffectual at bringing about any change but the opportunity to somehow put your voice out there and be counted does help on a personal level, I believe.

If anyone is interested... In the U.K. (London) there will be a joint protest with Together Alliance (against right march) on March 28th.

The Together Alliance March grew due to concern around how many were marching under the far right - it’s backed by people such as Paloma Faith, Lenny Henry, unions. There are coaches going from all over the U.K. and it’s hoped to be a good day, a nice day. Many groups are involved too.

I’ve been out postering and fly posting for it.

It’s hoping to rally folk together pre May elections. Mr Many Names Robinson has a March booked post May elections.

You can find out more about the Together Alliance at www.togetheralliance.org.uk
