What do you consider posh?

Is posh subjective/relative do you think or is there a universally agreed upon definition? I mean I guess everyone would say the royal family is posh right?! A work acquaintance called me posh today when I told her the street I live on and it made me think god if she thinks I’m posh where does she live?! Quite amusing as I’ve never been called posh before and the street I live on is mainly small 3-bed semis, mix of council and privately owned but not what I’d call posh, just not a council estate

I work in education. And there a big difference in opportunities and aspirations and according to class.
Where I work is low socioeconomic students. Even if they do aspire their families can’t afford the opportunities eg there are sown amazing engineering opportunities medicine but you have to pay.

Totally agree. Two of DS's friends went to Imperial for medicine this year and several to other universities. The effort put in by the school is not available to most students.

My sister and husband have weaponised ‘posh’ against me and mine and to them it is the ultimate insult. If you are posh, you are dead to them and it cancels out any/all of your achievements. I think it’s because we have degrees which has enabled us to be paid above minimum wage. Yes I do ski 😂

And in the camp that like to set up ‘for show’ ‘washing up stations’! (I wish I could find the thread from a few years back in which amiably mad posters traded ideas about what looked nice in your ‘washing up station’, eg expensive washing up liquid and wooden-handled dish brushes, which were not for use.)

Also the people who like to ‘stage’ spare rooms for overnight visitors and start threads asking for ideas for what they can do on top of fresh flowers, towels twisted into swans, a pillow menu tissues, a carafe of fresh water, a tea and coffee station, and a guest basket with wipes, a sewing kit, earplugs, tampons etc.

I follow some gypsy & Irish travelling women on Tiktok and they have display appliances in their caravans. So toasters/kettles/mixers that aren't used, they are for show only. Totally mad as they take up all the worktop space.

Men in red trousers/jeans.

Red chinos, or cords in the winter, but not red jeans!

🤣Yes!

I think you might have found the absolute ultimate posh indicator for a man - salmon or plum coloured chinos!

Especially if he calls his rear end his botty.

No!! Tesco should be up higher than Aldi or Lidl surely? It’s certainly more expensive.

It’s definitely is in Ireland where I am a least. We don’t have some of the other supermarkets and do have a couple of extra ones that aren’t in the UK, so hard to judge the rest of the list 😁

I’m Irish & have lived in the UK. I’d agree with you. Tesco is above LIDL / ALDI, although… It’s really gone downhill, there used to be some really nice Tesco. Now, ALDI & LIDL have both improved, in some neighbourhoods they’re technically better!

M&S has always been posh, as such… But it’s only since “this is not just food, this is M&S food” that it’s been elevated to where it is now. It used to be cheaper, more ordinary. Waitrose has also had that same effect. Then there’s Wholefoods / posh delis.
