If you have no health issues and drink a normal amount of fluid say equivalent to a few cups of tea or glasses of whatever per day.. how many times per day do you go for a wee?

Just this. Curious to know... also do you get up in the night to use the toilet?

Absolutely loads and got up in the night too, until I gave up caffeine, and it made a dramatic difference, now I go hours. I didn't even know caffeine was a bladder irritant until I stopped it for other reasons.

I pee a lot in the day. I’ve never counted but I will track it today. I’ve been 4 times today. I don’t get up to wee at night though. I tend to stop drinking too much around 8pm.
ive always drank loads of water in the day. I feel funny without doing so.

I wee a lot. And always get up during the night. I do drink a lot of water though. I can’t drink tea or coffee after about 5 pm or else I’m never off the toilet. Goes straight through me.

Same here. I'm not too bad in the morning but once it gets to lunchtime - mid afternoon then I'm on the loo almost every hour.

I have about 3 teas or coffees in the morning and then about 2-3 litres of water the rest of the day.

Always have to get up at least once in the night 😭

Startthecar · 05/03/2026 12:17

Normally I drink 2 cups of tea, one cup of coffee, 2 cups of milk, and nothing else which is not enough fluid per day.
So I've been trying to up my fluids, reminding myself to drink 2-3 extra cups of water per day.
I usually wee 5-7 X/day but I find it strange that I very seldom need to wee before 6am ( which is when I get up) even if I drink a cup of water before bed.
That's when I feel I must have needed the fluid and it goes somewhere else other than my bladder!

I think you're drinking very little so the answers you get might not tally up with your experiences.

I drink about 8 litres per day in total. I wee probably ten times a day and generally once in the night.

Surely a typo? 8L a day is a worrying amount.
I track my fluid intake and usually 2.5-3.5L daily.

The relearning thing is pretty interesting, I've never tried this. Also I think for a lot of people a few drinks per day is pretty normal. If I drank 2 litres of water per day I'd never be away from the toilet.

You wouldn't at first. But your body gets used to it and your kidneys will thank you for it.

Chipsahoy · 05/03/2026 12:25

4times a day. 5 if I’ve had an afternoon tea. Never at night. I drink a little less than the 8litres we should.

You should see your GP. It could be a sign of a medical condition like diabetes. Drinking that much can seriously dilute your salts, which can be fatal.

8 litres is way too much, it isn't recommended by anyone.

Paaseitjes · 05/03/2026 12:30

More often in the office out of boredom, but then I also drink more tea for the same reason...

MrsClattenburg · 05/03/2026 12:36

I usually have 3 teas / 3 coffees / 2.5 litres of water a day.

I definitely wee more in the morning but not as much in the afternoon/evening and never have to get up in the night, not even when I've been out drinking (alcohol)

BeeCucumber · 05/03/2026 12:38

I drink cups of tea, coffee, water, juice, wine and gin and tonic in an average day.

I pee about 6 times a day and I have trained my bladder not to wake me at night.

Parsleyforme · 05/03/2026 12:38

I never get up to pee in the night. But having just a few cups of tea per day Vs something more diluted would actually probably make me pee more often than a much larger amount of water. I find that not drinking enough, or drinking lots of tea or coffee, irritates my bladder so I go more often but in smaller amounts. If I drink them they have to be really diluted. When I drink larger amounts of clearer liquid I pee in bigger quantities less often and it feels great! It feels like it is just flowing out of me with no tension (difficult to describe)

Twasasurprise · 05/03/2026 12:43

3 or occasionally 4 times a day usually. I drink a 600ml flask of tea through the morning/ early afternoon, then usually 1l of cold fluids.

I wee when I get up at 6am, again at about 10/11am, occasionally once in the late afternoon/ early evening, then finally before bed. Quite rare for me to wee in the night, maybe once or twice a year.

I'm late 40's. I think it's genetic from my dad's side, and 2 of my children are the same. As a child I used to generally wee once a day, when I got home from school. Twice a day as an adult, before I had children.

msmillicentcat · 05/03/2026 12:44

I usually just drink when thirsty. I drink around 4 mugs of tea, 1 coffee, a herbal tea before bed and around 500ml water per day (unless I’ve done exercise). I usually pee around 3-4 times during the day, once before bed and on waking up and never during the night. I definitely pee more if I up my water intake.

gingercat02 · 05/03/2026 13:08

I drink one or 2 coffees and 1-1.5l water, maybe 3-4 wees. More as I get older (nearly 57)
Almost never in the night.

marcyhermit · 05/03/2026 13:24

Not really thought about it before, but I go on waking, mid afternoon, after work and before bed I guess. Never in the night.
I usually drink 3 coffees and 2-3 soft drinks a day, rarely a glass of water 🙄

WinterFrogs · 05/03/2026 13:28

Moshalot · 05/03/2026 10:11

The 2 litres a day figure includes fluid from your food, so the amount you need to drink will vary depending on whether you live on carbs or on salad.

I pee about 12 times a day, and never at night.
If for some reason I start peeing at night (because I've been up a few nights in a row with sick kids or something) then my bladder starts demanding night time pees every night. To fix it I just have to refuse to obey it for a couple of nights, so I lie there awake needing to pee but I don't get up. Then it relearns that it doesn't need to pee at night.

I read something similar to this in my mum's saga magazine, and I also stopped getting up for a wee in the the night. Usually 4am for me. I very rarely need to now. Probably about ten times during the day.

itsthetea · 05/03/2026 13:33

I have a couple of litres of tea/ water most days ( more in summer )

virtually never get up in the night

no idea during the day - 5 to 8 would guess ( some are just in case before going out )

damelza · 05/03/2026 13:34

About retraining night time weeing, what if you are uncomfortably in need to go? Is it not bad for you to hold it in like that? I'd still be awake anyway trying to hold it, but maybe that's what I'd have to do! It's an interesting theory...

I'm suffering a bit at the moment and I know it will pass, I had catheter during surgery recently and since it was removed I can't stop wanting a wee. It's not UTI I got it checked. This waking up and needing to go at 2,3 or 4 am is driving me crazy!

mcmuffin22 · 05/03/2026 13:37

I drink very little in the winter months - two coffees and under a litre a day in water. I drink much more in the summer. Regardless I go for a wee a lot. Probably every 90 mins or so. Once at night /early morning. This has not changed since I was a kid. If I drank pints of lager I think I would spend all the time at the pub in the loo as it feels like I only have to look at liquid to need the loo.

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 05/03/2026 13:41

Well, we have to suffer competitive everything else on MN, so no surprise it's now competitive water drinking.

Any advance on 8 litres/day? Surely someone's going to claim a gallon an hour?

amoosebouche · 05/03/2026 13:44

I'd guess around 5 or 6 times? Only ever in the night if I've drunk lots just before bed. I drink around 2 litres of water a day plus at least 5 massive cups of tea.

Nicecatneighbour · 05/03/2026 13:45

Applecup · 05/03/2026 09:58

A lot but then I think I always have done. It is worse in the morning. I get up at least once, sometimes twice a night.

Same. I don't drink much alcohol, but do have a pint of water before bed and same when I get up. Have done all my life.

fartotheleftside · 05/03/2026 13:46

I drink two coffees and 2-3 large glasses of water a day. I usually go 3-4 times a day and never in the night, which I’m grateful for.
