I used to swim in the Lough as a child 😧🤢

Evenstar · 14/03/2026 21:16

@placemats that is really awful, are people aware and still swimming there?

PandoraSocks · 14/03/2026 21:29

I read that earlier @placemats . It is so shocking.

No, there's warning signs everywhere.

Yeah, but Angela Rayner …

All very well then for Farage whatever dirt is thrown to him? If another pandemic ever happened, and Lough Neagh is about to blow up by all accounts, would you like Farage at the helm.

Don't underestimate the disaster that Lough Neagh is. It's borderline catastrophic.

www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/mar/14/lough-neagh-northern-ireland-genes-antibiotic-resistance-superbugs

Clearly not. I am very glad Farage isn't at the helm right now, he's the worst choice to steer the UK through any crisis.
However he does have an uncanny ability to benefit from crises in a way other politicians don't. Including crises he helped create (Brexit)
Fun fact, Brexit and the higher costs of importing water treatment chemicals helped contribute to the current (literal) enshitification of the UKs waterways.

Llttledrummergirl · 15/03/2026 09:42

Not surprised. Lets await forever for the witch hunt from the media. What will the political editors at the BBC say about this for weeks on end? GrinHmm

Is Tice even in the country to answer questions?

🚨 🔥 Remarkable exchange

When Farmers Weekly asked about misogyny in farming, Nigel Farage replies: “Does it?”

Then he says scrapping Equality Act 2010 is needed bc it makes white working-class men “inferior citizens”.

Female farmers raise concerns about workplace protections.

His response? 🧵

I've just noticed a new theme in the reporting highlighting Reforms tax dodging. Which is basically a post of support from the knuckle-draggers saying "Yeah, but that's only because it would have been wasted if they paid it".

I see a new campaign trying to grow where it's actually a PATRIOTS duty to dodge tax to stop it going to all those woke brown losers

Let me know if you see this delicate bloom planted anywhere.

Well the army would be good for those working class white men.

Despite the fact the equality act protects characteristics not groups. Which means that men are just as much covered from discrimination as women. In theory, were we to remove it, it would then become legal to treat men like second class citizens/discriminate against them in employment. That people advocating for removing the EA aren't afraid of this rather suggests they don't believe their own BS about positive discrimination and everyone being secretly biased towards women now.

If you aren't repulsed by a quick skim of the little Reform will admit to, you probably aren't going to consider the finer details.

It's playing into the way religion works. I mean if I told you Bert down the road could walk on water, you'd laugh me out of town. But because the concept of "Jesus" dovetails into your personal prejudices, you'll swallow any old guff.

Same for Farage and his elk. Once you have convinced yourself they are men (that word again) of the people, then they can do no wrong.

True
Or if you spend more time engulfed in online American culture war guff than engaging in the real world. Like people outside London believe it to be dangerous but most people in London say they feel safe. I have seen so many people using American talking points (hiring practices based on positive discrimination etc) that don't apply to the UK as those practices would be illegal under our laws. Or talking about how "the problem is people want to set up a hierarchy of privilege". Maybe "people" do. But the EA was very explicitly found in court to be non hierarchical.
But if people are basing their views on things they read on line rather than personal experience it doesn't matter.

Isnt Trump's war with Iran costing America something like a billion a day. But they DOGE'd Medicaid/foreign aid etc.
The reason that Reform can't cut spending in councils/have had to raise council tax is because there isn't anything like the level of wastage that they claim. I'm sure there is some. But the whole selling point is that loads of money is being wasted at a council and national level. Since they haven't been able to make huge savings at the local level one could assume they are lying about the national level as well.

It's good that this is being reported. Eta the person on the far left (ha!) of that picture isn't an MP.

Reform UK government would replace top civil servants with those ‘more likely to implement party’s priorities’

Exclusive: Senior party figures conclude outsiders or existing senior staff deemed more suitable should take over from current permanent secretaries

They might change their minds when they saw how much the redundancy payments added up to. Let’s hope they never get to find out.

Yep. In 2017 the Department of Health, led by one Jeremy Hunt, spent 31 million making 700 people redundant. Then started recruiting again shortly afterwards.

You can pass a law eliminating redundancy payments.

I think the public service/civil service unions might have something to say about that.

80% of the people "fired" by the US DOGE have been rehired on increased pay.

Is that a reworking of "Can't happen here" ?

The UK constitution on parliamentary sovereignty will have something to conclude with.

(remember how many "impossible" things had to happen before they lit the crematoria in Auschwitz)
