When driving, where do you put your handbag?

Just because I’m utterly curious, when you’re driving, where do you put your handbag?

If no one is in the front passenger seat, I put it there.

Currently, if someone is sitting in the front passenger seat I put it on the back seat, phone on the little tray thing in the middle front under the dash. The bag doesn’t fit in the middle arm rest divider (handbag is small, divider is smaller).

Where do you put yours?

I don't often carry a handbag anymore but when i do exactly the same as you.

i used to put it on the front seat but a can of juice burst and leaked all over my chair before so I now put it on the floor.

Passenger foot well if I'm on my own, floor behind passenger seat if I've got someone with me. I drive a skoda estate so even if there's passengers in the back of the car there's room by their feet for my bag. My phone is usually in my bag or its shut away in the centre console, I never have it where I can see it in case I'd be tempted to pick it up, Android Auto does all I need the phone for.

Passenger seat if no-one there. Boot if someone is, but i have my phone in the front with me. I have one of my debit cards in my phone holder so if i need an emergency McDonalds drive through I don't have to go into the boot.

Same- I love people sitting next to me and hate it because I want to throw everything into the seat!!

On the passenger seat if alone,or behind my seat if I have a passenger. However doors are locked as its been known in our area for a bag to be snatched in an instant when pulled up at traffic lights etc.

In the armrest if someone in passenger seat.

On passenger seat if not - doors lock automatically.

I know someone who puts it under her feet. Her handbags have long shoulder straps, like those POM camera bags but skinnier straps. I’ve suggested to her that the strap could get tangled up with the break or gas pedal and be dangerous, why not put it in the passenger footwell. She said it’s never happened before so she’ll continue. I won’t get in the car with her any more.

Random but my bag tends to get put into my daughter's car seat when like as it doesn't move around in there 😆

Boot if someone in front passenger seat?!

But couldn’t it slide forward under your pedals and cause an accident?

Passenger foot well even if I'm not on my own - it's small and even my DH doesn't have that long legs. If it's my work bag, on the seat if I don't have a passenger, back seat if I do (or boot if the car is full).

front passenger seat if unoccupied. Boot if it is! I have two v small children and made the mistake of putting my bag (also their changing/snack/everything bag) between them while driving somewhere once. They had a field day 😂

I try to always put mine between the two car seats - I read online about doing it when you’re in the sleep deprived baby stage because you’re less likely to leave the baby in the car. I don’t think I’ve ever driven whilst quite that sleep deprived, but it seems as good a place as any to put it! I do sometimes chuck it into DD1’s car seat once we’ve dropped her at nursery and DD2 and I are going somewhere else.

This. My DM was in traffic and a man came out of nowhere, opened passenger door and tried to snatch her bag. By chance the strap had got caught on the lever under the seat so he couldn't get it. I always have it over the gear stick now.

In the boot

the only bag I’m likely to be driving with is my work bag which is big and bulky - it sits either in the passenger footwell or the floor behind my seat if I have a passenger (inconsiderate 😂).
Day to day though I don’t carry a bag and my phone gets launched into a little cubby hole thing below the radio and my keys in the ignition.

I wedge mine into the driver door pocket. It’s a uniqlo sling bag so it’s small and soft and squidges in fairly easily.

Behind the drivers seat. I used to always keep in there because I lived in a hot place when my dc were little and that’s what was advised to try to prevent people leaving their kids in the car by mistake because you have to get your bag. Now it’s just habit.

You can get these soft leather handbag hooks from amazon. I hang my bag from that if I have a passenger, otherwise it's on the front passenger seat.

I balance it on my head. Have to be careful going round a roundabout though because my keys fall out onto my face.

The footwell in the back, zipped up

I was once in an accident as a passenger and the car rolled. I was young and had my handbag open at the time and all I can remember is all the contents going round and round, my lipstick hitting me in the eye and my heavy purse clinking me on the head and breaking everything, so I always remember to put it far away and zip it up

On the passenger seat is the usual spot or if someone is in the car it’s in the footwell on the passenger side. I sometimes forget to take it off and it sits on my knee until I can take it off
a colleague puts it in the boot for every drive!
