What’s your family’s favourite home-cooked meal?

Just made my family their favourite, which is chicken breasts topped with homemade pesto, wrapped in pancetta and served on rice with a white wine and mushroom sauce and green veg.

If I’m honest, it’s not my favourite - it’s fine, but I prefer food with more kick to it - but DH, DD and DS all really love it, so I make it at least once a month.

What’s the smash hit in your house?

Spaghetti carbonara, closely followed by hunter's chicken.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 01/03/2026 19:47

Ooh, I do love spaghetti carbonara.

Marry me chicken or roast dinner here, depending on who you ask

LateMumma · 01/03/2026 19:51

DH makes a wicked curry, I make a pretty good roast

SquigglePigs · 01/03/2026 19:54

We go through phases but shepherd's pie and bolognese are top of the list for me and DD at the mo. Also a roast veg pasta sauce or a roast dinner. Fortunately DH is happy to roll with whatever we want (both ND and go through food phases).

DD is absolutely obsessed with omelettes too!

gototogo · 01/03/2026 20:02

Roast pork and all the trimmings probably

Crofthead · 01/03/2026 20:08

Why rice and not pasta out of interest? Sounds delicious btw. Is the pesto olive oil/Parmesan/basil/pine nuts?

Kickinggkicker · 01/03/2026 20:13

A full roast, they like chicken and lamb the most, always with Yorkshire puddings and a selection of vegetables and my crispy roast potatoes.

Duffybearblue · 01/03/2026 20:23

Full roast dinner
Spaghetti bolognese or carbonara
Lasagne
Cottage pie

Just asked them and they couldn't narrow it down any further

ThePoshUns · 01/03/2026 20:24

My spag Bol and fish pie.

chillichoclove · 01/03/2026 20:24

Chilli con carne.

Thesnailonthewhale · 01/03/2026 20:27

Macaroni cheese here.

They'd eat it by the trayful.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/03/2026 20:28

Brunch.

Macaroni cheese.

Pork chops.

PlattyCat · 01/03/2026 20:28

DH spaghetti and meatballs
DD mince carrot & onion with Yorkshire puddings
Me Mexican Chicken

puppyparent · 01/03/2026 20:32

its hard to narrow it down to one. Our top 3 are:

Baked salmon, rice, garlicky broccoli, tzatziki

Butternut squash risotto and salad

Roast chicken with all the trimmings

Pasta with homemade tomato basil sauce

RosesAndHellebores · 01/03/2026 20:33

A roast, especially beef or lamb
27th December: turkey and ham pie with left over gravy, chopped shallot, sliced leek, bit of cream and a slug of sherry
Curried chicken thighs with shallots, spinach and lemon, bit of stock and creme fraiche

Wheech · 01/03/2026 20:34

I just asked and was surprised by the answer - pizza. I haven't made it in ages and think my own is good but not outstanding.

Empress13 · 01/03/2026 20:34

My Sunday roast, cottage pie and a Greek tray bake dish I do

sprigatito · 01/03/2026 20:35

Probably nachos. I find it a faff making all the fiddly components, but it’s one of the only things our disparate and eclectic family will all enthuse about.

FaceBothered · 01/03/2026 20:36

A roast dinner of any description.

Lasagne.

Sausage and mash.

User0311 · 01/03/2026 20:37

Roast dinner always

DistractMe · 01/03/2026 20:37

My Toad in the Hole, with onion gravy

TheWibble · 01/03/2026 20:38

Lentil cottage pie (even though we're meat eaters) or carbonara. My daughter new favourite is pork loin steak in creamy cider sauce, with crispy baby potatoes and oven roasted asparagus.

HowMuchIsThatDoggyInTheWindow123 · 01/03/2026 20:38

Roast dinner
Either chicken gammon or lamb is the top 3

If the dcs had their way we would have roast daily but they settle for once to twice a week.

Other favourites - pie mash veg , meatballs. carbonara and chicken tenders and chips with beans
