I should say, I don't actually have a huge amount of confidence re. Reform and the economy, I just have even less confidence in Labour and less again in the ability of the Greens.
What a shitshow all round, basically.

The electorate will have to make a difficult decision, I think

Very much so. I'm kind of relieved that where I am, the Tories are best on the single biggest issue facing the area (inundation of renewables) so that's a simple one.
I honestly think that if Reform get in, there will be a lot of disappointed voters who would have expected them to be far more radical than they actually are, though.

We might see coalition type formations on either side as the two party system is so strained.

I don’t think the left coalition would last long due to market reactions, so I suppose that’s kind of a safety pressure there.

I must admit my hope is that there's a right-leaning coalition since I don't think the Tories are going to exactly be sweeping the board.

A left coalition scares me. My worry is that it will be like current Labour and they'll do just enough to hang in there economically (while still doing a lot of damage), and bow to the Greens on all sorts of nutty social policies.

I take it he didn’t say how.

As if... It was his usual bland and unconstructive word salad. Pointless really.

Cynically, I would say there will be two opposing sides - taxpayers and benefit claimants, and the way Labour's going the claimants will win hands down.

Which is the greater number I wonder?

Fair point. You get a lot of give me more demands re the state. Those paying in are seen as bad, bizarre on mn about this especially.

@EasternStandard I couldnt believe what i was reading about them pushing the young Into work

The young around me are highly qualified and either looking for suitable jobs or trying to get ticking along jobs. Neither forthcoming and that's on labour taxing growth !!

Trump on sky now pummeling us again....saying he knows NATO doesn't work and the UK won't help him . Difficult line to walk ,as we know this is not what NATO is for however ....why is starmer not able to calm him diplomatically and come up with a workable plan

JaneV1984Madness · 16/03/2026 17:11

We are facing an abyss here !

Whereistheejectbutton · 16/03/2026 18:43

It is worrying isn’t it - predicting food inflation surging until the autumn now. Trump doesn’t seem
to be winding this up…

Whereistheejectbutton · 16/03/2026 18:45

Food prices will be forced up by Iran conflict, farmers warn

Upstartled · 16/03/2026 19:26

The food inflation following the Ukraine war was bad enough but at least the baseline was fairly cheap food. Not looking forward to the inflation heaped upon these current prices if it gives 2023 a run for its money.

EasternStandard · 16/03/2026 19:35

Stuff I bought yesterday already had price increases. Has anyone else found that?

Food I mean, in Sainsbury’s and Ocado.

I've not noticed, though I try to buy what's on offer where I can.

I'll notice for next week's delivery when I amend it though. I tend to spot them when they appear.

TheNuthatch · 16/03/2026 20:01

Evening 😁

I did a huge shop to restock everything at the weekend in anticipation of prices going up even further. I haven't noticed...yet. Food is already way too expensive.
I was furious (again) at Starmer today when he said that he had brought inflation down. They think we're all bloody stupid.

Whereistheejectbutton · 16/03/2026 20:11

Still time as prices are going to keep rising they’re predicting…

I haven't noticed yet but I've acquired the habit of trying very hard not to look.

TheNuthatch · 16/03/2026 20:35

Ffs. I've just been reading about Labour's genius plan to tackle youth unemployment. What are they on!
They killed the jobs market, now they want to use taxpayer cash to subsidise, whilst continuing to kill jobs.

This annoys me so much. It's just out and out lying at this point. All they have done is hoiked inflation with their amateur policies and claimed to have wrangled it into submission once businesses have accounted for it.

🤬🤬🤬

They just keep shooting us in the foot and congratulating themselves when they find a plaster.

Ikr!
Reeves said it at the despatch box last week, now Starmer at the podium. How, when it was at 2% when they took office?
They know they're lying.
They know that we know they're lying.

It’s utterly ridiculous. I listened to McFadden for once this morning and the usual were not to blame. They are idiots.

JaneV1984Madness · 16/03/2026 21:18

@Upstartled ,crisp analogy !!

We could potentially be fading a huge disaster.
Unless they are able to seize that straight somehow on Iran side ??
Which would mean boots.
