I hate saying his name.
The vile creature who killed Holly and Jessica in 2002. Has been seriously assaulted in prison.

I can’t make myself care about him. But such things happening in prison are a concern, as there is therefore a risk that they could happen to rehabilitatible prisoners, or indeed prison staff.

Simonjt · 26/02/2026 15:15

I hope the poor prison staff weren’t put at risk, people who don’t mind prisoners being attacked need to remember that attacks put the lives and wellbeing of staff members at risk.

DontKnowWhyIfeelLonely · 26/02/2026 15:15

.

Jk987 · 26/02/2026 15:18

Stop with the monster caricature. He’s an adult male, entirely human and entirely responsible for his crimes. Yes it’s hard to believe a human can do this but he did.

Catwalking · 26/02/2026 15:19

cramptramp · 26/02/2026 14:57

I don’t want to pay for his life imprisonment. I’d rather he was dead.

perfectly put, totally agree.

TheMorgenmuffel · 26/02/2026 15:19

I am conflicted. On one hand I cant say I have any sympathy at all for him, he deserves what he gets. But on the other hand the system must protect inmates from assault, regardless their crime.

Quite. Even if they aren't physically at risk, the psychological toil is immense. PTSD, worries about disciplinary action if they were at fault, or even if they weren't, the stress of accessing medical care, biohazard, keeping everyone else safe.

Baying for bloody is easy if you don't have to clean it up after.

Squirrel60 · 26/02/2026 15:22

EXCELLENT! I hope the creepy old fart is dead! Whoever attacked him did a brilliant job!

AwayADay · 26/02/2026 15:25

I have no sympathy .

JacknDiane · 26/02/2026 15:26

I hope its nothing trivial.

UpAndDownAllTheTime · 26/02/2026 15:26

I hope it hurt. A lot.

PolkaDotPorridge · 26/02/2026 15:31

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/02/2026 15:10

And this I think is the crux.

He deserves death and pain. He does. But as a civilised country we should neither inflict it nor allow it to be inflicted.

Because we aren't him. We're better.

Can you explain how you think killing him, a double child killer, would be as bad as what he did?

plantseeds · 26/02/2026 15:34

I think a lot of people just like showing what good people they are by being happy at his injury and possible death. I mean, it must be bloody horrible for the staff, it takes NHS resources away from other emergency cases (maybe think of that when you’re lining up to shake the prisoners hand) and it costs taxpayers money to sort but hey, you’re a good person for celebrating it right?

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 26/02/2026 15:38

Why do they even report it. I bet he will enjoy the attention.

zebrastripesarefun · 26/02/2026 15:38

Many prisoners are assaulted in prison. Prisoners are in prison as punishment but shouldn’t be subjected to attacks. We are surely above that

nomas · 26/02/2026 15:39

I don't know why people are fixated on him, he's nothing now, he will die in jail.

There are thousands of children still in abusive homes that could end up being the next Baby P or Victoria Climbié or Arthur Labinjo Hughes or Star Hobson.

I agree, don't give him airtime

Irrespective of the awfulness of his crimes, there is something very ugly about those who celebrate and encourage extreme violence.

I totally agree. It's one thing to have no pity for him, but it makes me feel a bit sick when people actively revel in others' suffering.

Ilovegoldies · 26/02/2026 15:44

I can't celebrate this. Not because of any sympathy for the evil man but because I would put my life savings on the attackers not doing this out of any sense of justice for those poor girls but because its just another excuse for men to be violent. Ian Watkins wasn't attacked for what he did it was allegedly due to drugs.
These attackers dgaf about women and girls.

SpanielLover356 · 26/02/2026 15:45

When I was a teen a very good friend of mine in the same A 'level English class was raped & murdered. Her lovely mother was a devout Christian & wrote to him & visited him in jail in the hope that he would understand what he'd done, the impact it had had on their family & thus save his eternal soul. Regretfully she was disappointed.

She was a remarkable woman in doing this, but she was also thinking about her eternal soul in seeking to forgive him & save his soul. I don't think that I could ever forgive I'd want him to live long & suffer abuse, worrying about being attacked, what people were putting in my food all that kind of thing.

There are some who say; only God can forgive.
I find that very helpful.

How does it make you feel sick? You DO pity a man that brutally abused and murdered two little girls is basically what you’re saying. It makes ME feel sick when I think about his victims. Save your sympathy for them and their families.

I agree with both posts. I honestly don't understand the people celebrating. There are hundreds of similar messages on SM.

The sister of a murdered girl said that whenever her killer is mentioned in the Press, for whatever reason, it is awful. It hurts, it's brings everything back to the forefront of their minds without warning. The families of Holly and Jessica will be hounded by journalists asking for their thoughts, they'll have to see his face on the front of newspapers etc for days. I tend to think about that, I certainly don't high five and raise a glass to the fact that IH has been hurt.

IH is serving a sentence because that what our judicial system deemed necessary. It shouldn't be possible to murder prisoners in prison (or severely injur them). If we don't like the sentence then we can all vote / lobby our MPs etc. I can tell you that the large majority of people celebrating on SM probably don't vote and never will.

Completely agree with this. Horrible to see such salivating glee about violence. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and deserves every moment of that. He wasn't sentenced to assault.

Also agree that calling him the 'Soham Monster' is sensationalist and more glorifying than just using his name. If you don't want to draw attention to him, just don't start a thread about him.
