Today must be the first in about 2 years where there is nothing about Reform or Farage on the news home page above the fold.

There is only one thing worse than being talked about ....

placemats · 27/02/2026 14:38

SerendipityJane · 27/02/2026 14:02

As predicted.

Today may well be the day MN blows up.

It happened last night...

SerendipityJane · 27/02/2026 14:43

placemats · 27/02/2026 14:38

It happened last night...

The fact I was having an undisturbed nights sleep as it happened pleases me even more.

I can't help but feel there is a very very strong attempt for the Farageosphere to desperately avoid sinking into the internecine aftermath of failures so beloved of their woke adversaries.

Little snippy threads about how the Reform voters "let them down" are a keypress away ....

Judges reject appeal claiming VAT on private school fees infringe human rights

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/private-school-vat-appeal-high-court-ruling-human-rights-b2928803.html

My dd2 is a very intelligent person and was an extremely bright toddler. Not boasting, she just was. When she was four she wrote a review about how wonderful Barbie was and got a prize as a result. She posted the review through the letter box. As parents we had no idea she was doing it. The parcel arrived on her home assessment for primary school. They were most impressed.

At 10 she applied to do the entrance exam for a private school, sat it and passed with flying colours. Obviously we took her there. Grants were offered. She decided not to proceed. Travel world have been tricky.

Apparently I'm being a traitor to the Labour cause by people who despise Labour.

I found that conversation absolutely fascinating. The complete disbelief that anyone would vote against their own interests for the benefit of wider society was amazing. Of course en route to calling you a traitor (I wasn’t clear whether that was to the party you vote for or the class they believe you to belong to) there was the inevitable champagne socialist accusation.

I wish I could say I am surprised by those comments.

Your DD sound amazing and clearly knows her own mind.

Hang on, weren't they all wringing their hands a while back about all the working class kids who would lose out. I especially remember the one who boasted they were ending a bursary donation out of spite.

Yet they lambast you for considering private school for your daughter?

TheKuiperBelt · 27/02/2026 16:00

So, in summary: Labour loses an historic constituency, which in the previous 2024 election they had won with a majority of over 13,000 – marking the first time the party has come third in a by-election it was defending, since Mitcham and Morden in 1982 - and its somehow presented as a good day for Labour?

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Cuckoo.

Starmer, to party members who doubted the wisdom of mimicking Reform policies: “if you don't like that, if you don't like the changes that we've made, I say the door is open, and you can leave”
We took you at your word and left. Now it’s time for you to go.

Good grief, we have to post the same thing over and over and over.
Broadly speaking regular posters prefer left wing politics, that doesn't mean we all vote Labour. Starmer has been roundly criticised on umpteen occasions. I dare say there will be more.
Matt Goodwin losing IS good news. And the Conservatives losing their deposit is just amusing. Hope that clarifies everything for the ploppers.

Piggywaspushed · 27/02/2026 16:12

I don't think anyone has said it's a good day for Labour. It's a good day for the Left, though. A brilliant day for Progressives.

And a really really really bad day for the Tories.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2026 16:13

A good day for non racists.

The not so James Cleverly, he who joked that the secret of a long marriage was a date rape drug, has called for an investigation into voting irregularities following the by-election in Gorton and Denton. He's the Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Well quite.

Not one person on this thread has said it was a good night for Labour. We don't need it mansplaining to us.

There are a lot of very upset Reform supporters on MN today. They can't stand the fact most left leaning voters are genuinely delighted Reform didn't win.

Is anyone - winning candidate and party included - not calling for an investigation ?

As I understand it the only actionable incidents were due to Reforms behaviour.

And not only that, we don’t really care which progressive party beats them.

Funnily enough, they never actually get around to forcing an investigation.

It's almost as if they have absolutely no evidence...
