It does.

I try not to post on those threads and scroll past an other.

It very easy to spot to be honest. For example the thread about the private members bill on halal and kosher meat.

Step forward Esther McVey.

Hoyle is a gift to the opposition parties

It's easier to scroll past here than X. (autocarrot changed that to C). X chooses what you will read while here, you can scroll through active conversations muttering "bullshit" all the way down or even stay away from active completely.

placemats · 25/02/2026 22:46

Oh I only go on following when on X. Deborah Meaden is brilliant.

The Guardian has not been taking comments on Andrew Sparrow's UK Politics for two days now. I wonder what has happened to stop that?

There has been a lot of bots below the line and a slew of deletions lately, so wondering if that was the reason.

PandoraSocks · 26/02/2026 07:44

This is rather arrogant of Polanski. Did he expect Labour to not defend its G&D seat?

Part of Reforms strategy will be trying to leverage FPTP. A system that coudl return someone who gets 2 votes over 1,000 candidates who only gets 1 and claim it "democracy".

I restate the idea of amending elections so you vote for the candidate you'd least want to win. Lowest score gets returned as MP. It would be interesting to model what parliament would look line under that system.

DuncinToffee · 26/02/2026 09:27

Maybe we can add an 'Against' box?

If anyone needs to exam on their conscience about G&D it’s the Greens. They’ve pushed a protest vote and used inaccurate polling and infographics (some would say false, lying data) when the obvious vote against Reform was always Labour.

placemats · 26/02/2026 10:44

If Hannah Spencer does win and resigns her council seat in Trafford Council, that seat could well go to Reform.

DuncinToffee · 26/02/2026 11:17

I dont think the Greens were worse than Labour or Reform with their campaign strategies.

There won't be a winner in this election.

I do wonder if silent Greens will suddenly pop up Wink 'i am not a Green voter but...'

I agree. I think the campaigning has been pretty unedifying from all three.

Often think that dissatisfied Tories will vote Green.

I think they’re more likely not to vote at all.

My late mum did on a local council one once - she was a lifelong Tory voter but finally really disliked Boris - hell would freeze before she ever voted Labour and she thought Lib Dem were pointless. She liked the thought of improving the environment so chose Green.

I felt a little bad I may have influenced her as in often mentioning the failings of the Tories, without my Dad there to share their ongoing joint insistence Tory was the only sensible choice ever. Also bad that she was fairly unaware of the rest of their policies, but whilst mainly competent digging deep into policy discussion wouldn’t have really gone anywhere.

So I can imagine some older voters could go from Tory to Green very easily, if they are just considering on a basic level with decades of views on each parties informing them. Not enough to really alter much though. It’s a ‘nicer’ switch than Tory to Reform really and appeals to those who have care for the environment.

Just to add - I have actively posted in a Tory vote for her as well as the outlying Green one.

No, not add. Replace with.

Piggywaspushed · 26/02/2026 13:58

I thought it was traditionally Lib Dems who were the 'shy Tories'? Perhaps most especially in the Shires.

If you think Gorton and Denton is the shires, think again.

My late mum voted Remain at the age of 90 and whilst always an SDLP voter at heart, voted Sinn Fein for local elections. Northern Ireland obviously.

No one celebrating the lower asylum figures ?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly07pyde00o

All they’ll be able to see is the increase in boats (though that’s lower than the peak still). They don’t seem to care about immigration or asylum per se, just ‘boats’.

I am amused at the fake AIBU thread - anyone here spotted it, and the obvious mistake ?
